If they're trying to hold out for £11m-£12m, then tell them to forget it... offer £9m take it or leave it and see what they say to it.

hold out for 11.5 they have the money, tell them,"pay the same we had and he is yours" i will drive him to birmingham myself, recoup the £

samtheman, london/ usa/ spain/ uea. around 15 minutes ago Babel was brought in to replace Kewell, he has done nothing, bring back Kewell he was much much better and would be cheap these days

Glen, Sydney around 22 minutes ago Liverpool should be accepting the bid for Babel. Too many opportunities have been wasted on a player who has consistently underperformed

Greg De Doncker, South Africa around 26 minutes ago Sell him to get some funds for a player that is interested to bleed for the club. Babel is not a fighter...

Robert, Norway around 28 minutes ago Babel had a great chance at Liverpool, but would rather rap than train. We should accept the next bid that comes in and get rid of him.

If ever there was a reason as to why not to believe liverpool fans judgement on him then you have just proved it. All of them are from other countries and supposrt liverpool because they believe they are one of the worlds best teams, i bet even with ferguson who i believe is our best player- they would go on about how rubbish he was. Babbel in any other side outside the top 4 would look 10 times the player he is to now. Look at valencia who united fans dont rate, its only because they come up against the WORLDS best every other week, well we dont.

From the REAL scousers forum.

I do not think that these statistics are important at all. He spent 2 and a half years here in Liverpool, and no visible development can be seen in his play. He is scaringly one dimensional. Speed and a good shot with his right leg.

He shows glimpses, but in my opinion he doesn't have the desire to become a top class player. That's not to say he's a bad player, but I think he'd be better served moving to a smaller club like Birmingham, would bite their hands off for 9 million.

How did Rafa misuse him? How can you make that statement? Maybe used him perfectly, but Babels not up to the job. This is Liverpool FC. Man up, fight for your place and see what happens. So he has scored a few goals and maybe Rafa could have got more out of him but the fact is he has come on many times as substitute, with other players having tired legs and he hasn't even been able to use to use his pace to get past them. Some of the most ineffective performances that I can remember in 25 years of supporting Liverpool have come from Ba

Maturity doesn't always come with age. There are players at Liverpool the around the same age and younger than Babel who have shown more fight, patience, and end product that Ryan. Where is the evidence that we have rejected 8 miilion pound bids. I haven't seen anyone at the club confirm that.

Too many people mention Babel being treated unfairly. Do people think Rafa wants Babel to fail after spending 11 million on him? Maybe, just maybe, Rafa, who watches him everyday in training has seen very little to justify a starting place.

I used to think that too but after looking at the stats and game logs from the last 2 seasons that is wrong. He has usually finished games he has started. Last season he was subbed off 4 times out of something like 10 or 11 starts and all those after 70 minutes (maybe the second sub not the first). First was usually keane

From what my Liverpool fan friend said (he's only ever been to 2 Liverpool matches, so he's a "liverpool...fan") he was talking about Babel not reaching potential rather than 'Babel is ****'.

Everyone seems to agree that he's got a lot of potential to be a top player, but he's just not reaching it.

That's due to a mixture of Babel's attitude and Benitez's ineptitude.

McLeish can cure both.

I'd rather go back and buy Quincy for a fraction of the price, Babel isn't much better IMO and I wouldn't pay £9M for him.

like i said before its his attitude that worrys me.

Jan Molby commented that the reason he hasnt improved is he wants things in life to easy, and hasnt been prepared to work hard for a place in the team.

do you really think that sort of player would fit in with our team now?

sounds like the sort of players we went down with in 06 tbh.

I concur, Villa took a £9m gamble on Ashley Young and it paid off ... I don't see what Young has that Babel doesn't to be honest.

And as Liverpool have proved, if you invest money in promising young players, even if it doesn't work out you can recoup the majority of it because there will always be someone else willing to take a gamble on them.

I'd be really happy with Babel or N'Zogbia, and I'm really excited about the youth and explosive pace we could have on our wings.

Imagine both of them in a three pronged attack with Jerome (or Benitez) ... pace to burn!

I love the fact that Alex is going for pace.

Which game do you think really sticks in Alex's head.

Yep the one we want to forget when we lost away at our rivals and it was pure pace that killed us, without it you can forget being anything in the prem.

If Alex sees something in this guy then he should get him.

Babel and Mcgeady....i would take both...

Indeed... and both have one hell of a shot on them... just look at N'Zogbia's goal against us at the DW and Babel's goal against Lyon in the Champions League.

Just updated on sky web site.. Seems we could still be in with a chance... And with Liverpool trying to sign Rodriguez on loan they may be willing to sell...

Quote:

Skysports.com understands Birmingham have made a move to sign Ryan Babel from Liverpool.

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has targeted a move for Babel as he looks to bolster his squad in the January transfer window.

Blues owner Carson Yeung is ready to make money available to McLeish to make some big-name signings this month and McLeish has earmarked some of the funds to bring Babel to St Andrews.
Birmingham are understood to have firmed up their interest in the Dutchman with a bid for Babel and they are now waiting to see if Liverpool will accept their offer.

Liverpool are thought to be willing to cash-in on Babel as he has failed to hold down a regular place in Rafa Benitez's side since arriving from Ajax in the summer of 2007.

Benitez is prepared to listen to offers for the 23-year-old as he looks to raise funds for his own transfer plans in January.

Birmingham are hoping the chance of regular first-team football will convince Babel to make the switch to St Andrews as he looks to secure his place in the Holland squad for this summer's World Cup finals.

This place would expode the moment someone suggested it's an attacking 4-5-1.

I've been reading two or three of the Liverpool forums and opinions on Babel are mixed. Some say that they should take the £8m offered because he's dross, and others believe that he's been mismanaged (primarily in that he's been given a couple of games in the side in which he scores, and is then promptly dropped for the next few games) and should stay.

Personally, I think Rafa is being fairly wise in seemingly holding out for more money. Babel has hinted that he wants Champions League football. Maybe Rafa knows he'll reject a move to Brum and therefore he doesn't want to look like he's willing to accept £8m from the first team that comes along.

No but he can play every week to ensure he's in the dutch squad for the world cup, and if he saw us as a stepping stone to bigger and better things then he will have to come in and do well anyway so I don't see an issue...

Both are good points.

The question is would he be wanting to pull his weight after South Africa and into next season with us? Maybe it doesn't matter?

I'd like to think we could hold onto our players next season and really begin to build a special squad - so ideally we don't want people who are only in it for their World Cup profile. That said, our form and spirit would be alluring for someone feeling 'unloved' at their club, particularly if they are favourites with us lot... Too many ifs and buts, for my liking, though...

before the transfer window opened mcleish stated he was not going to be looking at players to bring in for a lot of money who will upset the fantastic team spirit we have so why is he looking at babel. if this club whants to move forward we need players with a similar attitude that the blues players at the moment who will do anything to win and will role up there sleeves and work for each other as a team ryan babal will not do that.

Where is the evidence he is a trouble maker?

if i was'nt playing i would be annoyed. im sorry but to critisise this potential signing shows how "small time" thinking still holds us back

the kid is class, a product of Ajax, and is miles better than anything we have at the moment.
