[and dont make out i am not a blues fan as i am a ST holder that goes to the away games as well]

a young dutch player with international caps previously played for ajax in champions league, signed for liverpool for over £12 million

here are his stats

first season with liverpool played 49 games and scored 10 goals

second season with liverpool played 38 games and scored 4 goals

this season played 13 games and scored 3 goals

so made 137 appearances since joining liverppol in 2007

so why does he want to leave liverpool for Birmingham, he might want to leave but i doubt it is birmingham

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Babel

all due respect this player is out of our reach as is a top 8 finish this season

put yourself in his shoes, 25 Cl appearances since 07, why would i join birmingham !

You don't get if you don't ask. There is a difference between being realistic and selling the club short, personally I think you're doing the latter. I have my doubts about Babel choosing us over clubs with the lure of European football, but for God's sake it's silly season, lets all get our hopes up as Bluenoses for once. You never know, he may be content to wait a few years for European football as long as he's getting regular Premier League football and can see the club's potential.

Be careful how strongly you argue your point - it sounds like you don't want him to join just so you can say "I told you so" on here.

Well Bable will compete for a couple of positions which could be what the manager is thinking rather than bringing in too many players during Jan where prices and availablity makes life harder for us.

Exactly **thumbup

Babel could play either wing or up front.

Gardener could play RM/RB as well as CM.

These two players would give us options, i doubt Babel would be willing to sit in the bench so he would be a starter but one who could be moved about to change things about.

I am sure if a fee is agreed McLeish will stress to him that although he has been brought into the team as a starter, its down to him to take his chances as McLeish wont keep starting him unless he does better than anyone else we have.

“It is about doing what is right for Ryan’s career as a whole, rather than taking a short-term view,” Haatrecht said. “We are not thinking about the World Cup. We are thinking about the next ten years and that is why we have to consider things carefully.

“I have sent details of all the interested clubs to Liverpool and there are five or six of them. We know Liverpool are thinking seriously about the amount Birmingham have offered, but we only start thinking about it in the same way when an agreement has been reached between the clubs.

“Even then, we need to look at how Birmingham’s squad is being built up, how the prospects for future success appear and perhaps listen to what the manager has to say.

“The offer has not been rejected yet, but I can say, in general terms, Ryan would still like to be successful with Liverpool. If the people at Anfield feel it is better for him to leave, though, then we have to think about starting a new chapter in his career.”

Sully has gone.....

We have nothing to be negative about no more.

We have to show ambition, nothing wrong with that and going for Babel is that, this does not mean we will get him. Every player wants bigger clubs i am sure when we went for Benitez if he also had a offer to join Everton at the start of the season do you think he would be here?

Will we finish 8th....?

Well we are 8th now and if we had signed 4-5 players linked with say IF.... we did pull off a

Jankovich or Kuranyi (without his silly wage demands)
Babel or McGeady
Michel
Gardener
Konchesky

I am pretty sure we would have at least as good chance of 8th as Everton, Fulham or Sunderland who else will challenge for 8th? None of the others even Stoke etc i feel we have as good chance as finishing as high as them as it is, without any new players.

Completly agree mate, too many people here scared on what we could achieve. Iv said all along the premiership is weaker this season than it will be next which needs to be took into consideration.

I am getting a litle worried about paying over the odds for this player.. Liverpool fans have been brought up on good football and know a player when they seen one.

Go to this forum and go to the general prem section and look for post Babel to Birmingham?

He's got pace to burn, of that there is no doubt.
But I have seen nothing from him yet to justify this ridiculous price tag.

Reasons to leave Liverpool and join a club he'd likely start every match with...

He's started 3 premier league matches this season
He started 6 premier league matches last season
He started 15 the season before that, his first with the club and those starts have declined ever since.

You've no idea where we'll be finishing (8th or otherwise) nor do any of us, and you've no idea who we're capable of signing. They're only opinions you are entitled to.

Kyle is quite right

Babel wants 1st team football and the stories going around Merseyside now are that Benitez has lost the respect of most of his players including Gerrard

Babel wants to nail a place in the Holland World Cup sqaud.....he needs more playing time

I think it would be a major coup for BCFC......and show other clubs around us chasing the Europa League (Sunderland, Fulham, Stoke, Everton etc) our intent

spot on Parti...........

with us showing intent by trying to sign Babel it makes us a more attractive club to come to, which in turn helps us in the transfer market

means players will look at us more favourably rather than blackmailing them and having to pay over the odds just to aquire theyre services

dont mind paying the asking price for REAL quality as long as it makes us a viable proposition

and i really rate Babel just dont think Benitez knew when or how to play him the way he did with Keane

It wont have gone unnoticed that Joe Hart has gone from being a young, inexperienced, second-string keeper at Man City, to being a favourite to make the plane to South Africa in the summer, by playing regularly in our side.

It wont have gone unnoticed that two Championship central defenders have stepped up to become acknowledged as one of the Premiership's best defensive pairings by playing here.

It wont have gone unnoticed that players of the class and ability of Bowyer, Ferguson and McFadden, have been able to put an underachieving past behind them and show their best since arriving at Birmingham.

And it certainly wont have escaped notice that we have at Birmingham a man who is quickly building a reputation as one of the most highly regarded managers in football today.

And we have owners who have money to spend and will spend it to get to where they want the club to be.

It strikes me that we must be one of the more attractive clubs for an ambitious footballer to join. As fans, we tend to underestimate our club. we shouldn't. We are going places and people are starting to recognise that.

After how many years of waiting to be in a position like this, where are actually trying to buy players from teams above as opposed to trying to build a team from championship players, yet people are stilling saying we should worry about relegation, worry about not getting players.

why shouldnt we punch above our weight, weve had one of the best seasons in the clubs history and people have started to stand up and take notice, every game for the first time i can remember, the opposing teams manager has said its going to be a difficult game and they actually mean it!

10 mill is a big price tag, i think the negative people are scared by it because its never happened before, yes its a gamble, but Big Eck is a great man manager, he will get the respect of the lad, tell him what he needs to do, he will listen and hopefully become a star for us! he obviously wants to go to the world cup, so if he could light himself up with a team like us in the premier league, playing well again teams of a supposed higher callibre than us then thats going to do the world for his career!

Just think of the teams around us, Darren Bent to Sunderland, im not 100% but im sure his record at tottenham wasnt great! but he was still alot of money!

Just believe in McLeish, i think hes a smart man and he wouldnt carry on going after someone if he didnt think they were good enough, or he could sort them out!

Have Faith! :banner:
