Rickie Lambert - Goal Machine - cheap option for forth striker?

Bristol

Lambert joined Saints just days into the 2009/10 season from fellow League One side Bristol Rovers for a fee in excess of ₤1million.
The 6'3" front man finished the 2008/09 campaign as the joint top goal scorer in English league football, notching 29 goals in League One alone.
The Liverpool born striker started his career at Blackpool and had spells at Macclesfield Town and Stockport County before making his mark at Rochdale, where he scored 28 times in 64 appearances. He joined Bristol Rovers in August 2006. At the Memorial Stadium, Lambert scored 59 goals in 139 starts during three seasons.
The signing of Lambert was the first purchase by new Saints owner Markus Liebherr and manager Alan Pardew, who fought off competition from clubs at a higher level to secure the services of the hot shot.
He made the perfect start to his Saints career too, scoring on his debut in a 2-0 win over Northampton Town in the first round of the Carling Cup, a game which came just a day after his arrival at St. Mary's.

Season 2009/10 = 27 Goals - so far!!

And again....

Rickie Lambert's 25-yard free-kick took League One Southampton past non-league Luton into the FA Cup fourth round.

When Kevin Phillips joined Sunderland from second division Watford he went on to 31 and 30 goals in the following two seasons being the Prem leading goalscorer! Why are we looking at wanna-be players abroad? This guy is on fire and adored on the south coast. They signed him for £1m.

Beckford was dismissed on here so why would Lambert be any better? Beckford has the one key attribute needed for the Premier League that Lambert doesn't... Pace...

If we were to sign a league 1 striker Beckford would be a better bet than Lambert imo...

Probably better than Marcus Bent and Garry O'Connor, but why sign players like this when we are going to want to replace them in the summer?

We want to sign players in this January transfer window who are good enough to be at the club if we were pushing for a European place IMO, that's the kind of level of player we should be looking at. IMO if they couldn't get in the Fulham/Sunderland team then we shouldn't be looking at them either.

We want organic growth, not 10 players in/10 players out every window.

Id honestly rather us take a risk on Kris Boyd if im honest.

Or add a bit more money and spend £6m-£6.5m on Marc Janko.

you get a few ..goal machines..in the lower divisions...have to say having watched blackpool on and off for a few years in the lower leagues, you do come to realise why most of them do not make it to the top!

often scrappy goals against poor defending...perhaps not got the pace...or out and out goal poachers which many teams cannot afford the luxury of!

i suppose if really stuck for a striker at the end of january ,could take a chance on 1 of these...or try somone from our reserves if we our pushed!

There is no saying Janko or Boyd would do any better in the Prem and I hope we do get another quality striker in. But I think we could do with a strong target man, not for every match, but who will give Blues another dimension. If Jerome or Chucho (or both) were to go injured for a few weeks in February it would make us paper thin up front. It appears that both Lambert and Beckford aren't the injury prone players we have been use to in the past. They have both been ever-present knocking em in every week for their clubs. IMHO we haven't had a consistent forward, who hasn't suffered injury (like Forsell/Heskey for example) for a long time.

Stupid question! ..zz..

If you don't know the advantage of having tall forwards I'm not going to tell U!

Here's a clue, may relate to some of his 17 goals out of 23 appearances this season! Duuurrr! tomatoes
