Recalled from Peterborough (managed by an ex Blues player Cooper ironically) because of a lack of game time ....last appearance was a Carling Cup game way back in October  http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11694_5852949,00.html Likely to be loaned out again to another lower league side Without being funny, I can't honestly comment as I've hardly seen him play but is he really any good ?? He can't seem to nail a place down even in The Championship or League One and AM always seems reluctant to have him as a back up central defender here at St Andrews....and he is 20 now, surely at that age most coaches can tell if a lad has the potential to make it big Seems to have been with us for some time now......or are we just perhaps a little overly protective of our Academy players ???? Comments welcome **thumbup -------------------------- |

Paul merson confessed on sky last week that when he had scott dann as a player at walsall he thought he would never make it! even sent him on loan to Redditch who promptly sent him back... Now look at him Think pearce needs games full stop. Does not matter what league just get him some experience |

Huddersfield Town close in on Birmingham City’s Krystian Pearce TOWN are on the verge of making Birmingham City’s England junior international centre-back Krystian Pearce their first signing of the transfer window. Sources close to the Galpharm club suggest that the paperwork will be pushed through in a bid to make the 20-year-old available for tonight’s home League I clash with Bristol Rovers. Pearce, who is 6ft 1in tall and noted for his aerial ability, is set to join on loan with a view to the move being made permanent. Birmingham-born, he joined the St Andrews club aged 10 and was named their academy player of the year for 2006-07. He hasn’t played first-team football for the Midlands club, but has caught the eye for the reserves and in loan spells at Notts County, Port Vale, Scunthorpe and Peterborough. Those four stints have yielded 73 appearances, including outings against Town for Vale in 2007-08 and Scunthorpe last season, and brought three goals. Pearce was alongside Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies in the England squad at the 2007 Under 17 World Cup in South Korea, and the following year figured in the UEFA Under 19 Championships. Nicknamed ‘Chief’, he has been described by Birmingham academy manager Terry Westley as “having pace and power in abundance”. Westley added: “He will be an absolute giant when he stops growing. He’s strong, he’s tidied up his feet and he’s not flash or arrogant. He thrives on being pushed.” The planned arrival of Pearce follows the loan departures of centre-back Andy Butler to Blackpool and midfielder Jim Goodwin to Oldham and the permanent transfer of goalkeeper Matt Glennon to Bradford City. He’ll vie with Peter Clarke and Nathan Clarke for a place in the heart of the Town defence. http://www.examiner.co.uk/huddersfield-tow...86081-25629698/? |

Pity about this, I thought we had high hopes for him. I guess he was judged as not being good enough. Have to just trust Eck on this. Been with us since he was 10, that's long time. Good luck to him. |

it is a shame. He was highly thought of for a while. We've got Rowe and Preston coming through who seem to be ahead of him in the pecking order now, hopefully they'll fair a bit better. |

Lads Im not one to be nego but our academys performance (ie turning out players for first team) is dire compared to those Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogochbags from across the m6. AJ was the last one and that was in 2000!!! Ten friggin years! its a source of real annoyance to me. I get the feeling that Mutch who nearly made his debut as a 15yr old is now drifting out of the picture! what is wrong i wonder. KRO |

Matt Sadler? Darren Carter? Admittedly no-one still at Blues and can't argue that our record is poor on the academy front. |

Hes been given to them on emergency loan at the moment and the they'll make it permenant on wednesday. Does anyone here think we should of kept him or even let him nick 5 minutes at the end of the odd game? I've always known about him and everyone I've talked to him about said he's a good prospect. But it seems he's never played a game for us. I would of liked to see him play for us he is a blues supporter himself. |

having never met the bloke or seen him play i can only go on what i've seen but i get the feeling he's another one who let the praise go to his head and took the foot off the pedal thinking he'd already arrived (a la kilkenny) shame as he's got everything needed to be a success from waht i've heard. |

Its looking brighter now with Malky Thomson in charge of the reserves, Westly can focus entirely on the academy. Jervis, Bogle, Sammons, Mutch, Preston, Rowe, Butland and Wilson are all very talented and with expert training could have bright futures hopefully with the Blues! |

I certainly care. It's always frustrating for me to follow a young player from the academy for a number of years who receives nothing but praise from those charged with developing him, only to then have him never receive an opportunity proper. It seems as if these vital past two seasons he's missed Blues preseason for either the u-20's/U-19's/u-17's and upon arriving back to Blues he's been sent straight out on loan. Personally, I'd have kept him around the first team last season in the championship, given him a chance to either shine or fail, THEN sell or loan him to a league one side. Unfortunately in the Championship the pressure to make it back to the prem on first attempt meant that gambling on players such as Pearce was always unlikely. |

As am I. I truly wish he would have had an opportunity with Blues last season in the Championship, but due to the enormous pressure to bounce back to the prem it was always extremely unlikely. It's only a feeling, but I can't help but feel Pearce has been mishandled by Blues the last couple of seasons to some degree. Now that may simply be down to me personally having had such high hopes for the lad, but there you have it. Having been away with the u-20's, u-19's, and u-17's for what seems like the last two or three preseasons may have been detrimental to his club progression as well to a certain extent, but I may be grasping. In any case... Best of luck to you, Chief! |

I agree it would have been nice to see a player from the academy make the break through and become a regular player but McLeish will know whether he's good enough or not... If he was good enough he wouldn't be allowed to leave... Every club has players coming through that are billed as the next big thing, but they don't make it... Look at Freddie Sears when he scored that goal against Blackburn I think, everyone said he was going to go on and become an England striker, but imo he'll be playing in league one before long.. |

You may well be right. I trust AMc to a great extent, but he (nor any manager) is immune to the occasional mistake. Krystian may well be another Sam Oji, but he also could prove to be an unfortunate loss such as AJ, or more recently for Blues Palacios. Of course only time will tell. |

I've always kept an eye on the lad and hoped he'd break through eventually. However, he hasn't done much at any of the lower league clubs he's been on loan at so it's fair to say he isn't going to be taking Johnsons/Danns place any time soon. Good luck to the lad, and I'll follow his career closely. |

Hopefully the Johnson/Dann partnership will be at the centre of our defence for the next 6-7 years or so... Chief wouldnt have got a game ahead of them, and, if he's had loans down the league before and not really done anything for any of the clubs he's been at. And, even though they rushed the emergency loan paperwork through for him to figure tonight, he was an unused substitute during a 0-0 with Bristol Rovers. |
