If Gardner signs it will be good business by AM. With Michel on board it would seem that he has covered the centre midfield with very good back up.

Ferguson = Michel

Bowyer = Gardner

I think we should follow the Everton blue print for success incrimental signings that improve the squad without breaking the bank.

We need a striker and a good shout could be Benni Mcarthy cheap, experienced and knows where the net is. Someone like this would be ideal.

We don't have to go silly in this window, don't get me wrong I would love a Babel, Nzogbia or a Kenwyne Jones but it doesn't look likely to happen so lets keep the money until the summer..

It's a lovely theory, but if we don't win in January then people are going to be flapping and asking why we didn't spend to ensure our survival.

We might not win in January but we don't need to panic.. That said I understand where your coming from..

Consolidate our top 8 status by buying four players (1 def, 2 mid, 1 striker) in this window. These players to be of a quality that will be required for the the next season of "kicking-on" at least.

We don't have to break the bank, but boy we need to strengthen as only the current XI is good enough.

Michel is a start. Gardner maybe next, if so then that leaves only a defender and a striker to be required this window.

Benni Mcarthy or someone in that vein I said. In regards to his goal tally I think he his unhappy with Big Sam and perhaps this explains some of his poor form. That said I think he would be a good tutor to Jerome and someone all the forwards could learn a thing or two from.

Just feel we need a short term fix until the summer.

Qickterm fix? for what? Lets face it, we probaly wont get relegated or get into europe this season ..So now is the time to be prepairing for next season, buying quality and youth, not a 33 year old.

Totally agree it's all about improving the squad year on year and it takes time to get the right players in. The ones who have done this successfully have been Everton and unfortunately the Vile. Young was an excellent signing for them.

McLeish is absolutely right in trying to build the club through success rather than just buying it in which wont work because we dont have 200m to throw at it.

To get good players you have to track them for a long time. ManU had to track Van Nistelroy and Hargreaves for over a year.
It's not just a cases of a quick splash of cash for a Pandiani and the like these panic buys never work out in the longterm. Michel was flattered that we waited and kept on for him. It means that when he walks through the door is is really welcomed and will feel at home here.

We want players, management and staff to settle and feel part of things. Then when they put on that shirt or represent the club they will want to perform for the fans rather than just another payday.

For once i can honestly say we have a manager that knows what is needed and he will set about getting the players into the club..we also have a board that are more excitable than the manager thankfully and some calm and reason can be put to the fore...Imagine Bruce being told he had £40 million he would be like a kiddy in a sweet shop and then still come back looking for more and giving it the feel sorry for me drivel.
Alex has a settled side at the minute and he is looking to strengthen it,but also if you notice he is bringing in replacements for the long term.

We need a Better Jerome... a Better Benitez
a Younger Bowyer and a Younger Ferguson
we need pace and poise in equal doses.

Its so good i cant believe im saying it myself
and yes we may not continue to get the results we have been,but we all know it will not be through any lack of effort **thumbup
