Apologies if this has already been posted, but thought it would be of interest and as far as I am concerned is welcomed speculation.

Decent bets Birmingham City are in talks to sign Maxi López, the FC Moscow forward who has been on loan at Grêmio in Brazil. The former Argentina Under-21 player has an Italian passport. Birmingham are also encouraged that Ryan Babel is understood to be willing to move to the club from Liverpool. The winger was offered as part of a swap deal for Kenwyne Jones, the forward, to Sunderland, but the deal has been rejected.

Not good enough in a League where Gary O was a star player and would have to do something serious with that hair

Don't agree pop pop - Maxi Lopez scored 9 goals in 22 games for FC Moscow, your "star" Garry O'Connor scored 7 in 33 for Locomotiv Moscow.

I believe that he would give us strength and hold up play that the team needs - he is strong in the air and would undoubtedly have a good touch. The rumour is a touch left of field but if true then I would welcome his addition to Blues.

It's all well and good saying he was a flop here, he was a flop there - it must still be said that the scouts at one of the greatest teams in the world saw enough talent to recommend him to be signed - surely he must be good enough for Blues?!

At the end of the day we are still in the process of developing despite our lofty league position, if players of this pedigree are available and won't break the bank, are willing to join and will work for the proud shirt/club then why not?

Too many fans are getting ahead of themselves, expecting Carson's millions to be injected overnight and for us to make 'marquee' signings ahead of our expectations of what the players should adhere to - Re: have a bit of bottle and fight and be proud to don the shirt. We have been down this road before when in a similar position to now and we all know what ensued.

Heres to building carefully and slowly and believing in the manager and his plans for this club.

I too applaud Kent's comment. :applause:

I honestly believe in anyone McLeish wants to bring in, because I feel we are not being constrained by strict financial boundaries from the board and we'll only bring in players who we genuinely believe can improve our side or give us improved strength in depth.

I don't know much about Maxi Lopez - I'm not good with Spanish football - and I don't even remember that goal he scored against Chelsea.

We'll see.

I'd imagine that Steve McManaman's input has been sought as well. I'd welcome another decent Spanish-speaking forward.

Maxi was 'the next big thing' at River Plate. when live Argentine league games used to be shown on Five at 3am he was brilliant. wasn't surprised at all when he moved to Barca, but was disappointed he didnt get a fair crack.

i'd welcome him

8.51 FC Moscow striker Maxi Lopez is unlikely to move to the Premier League this month, his British agent has confirmed. The Argentinian has been linked with Birmingham City, but issues over his ownership mean it will be difficult to conclude any deal during the January transfer window.
