I used to love reading about gossip and my mate heard this etc but this season after Yeung told the world we have money its an absolute joke. We literally are being linked with every tom, dick and harry and i cant take any of it serious or even half get excited like i used too. Im not blaming Yeung as it gave the whole club a much needed morale boost its jsut agents having a field day and putting our name forward to EVERYONE! Im actually looking forward to the window shutting which i never though id say  , iv stopped taking what colin tattum says as gospel as i think even he is having a hard time trying to work out if the links have foundation or not and after the barry ferguson signing when was sure we was not going for him makes me wonder how much he finds out. Fair play to Eck for keeping his cards close to his chest but id much appreciate if he signs someone and then says we are not looking for anyone :D . I feel better now iv got that off my chest :boohoo: , UP THE :banner: ! |

I agree, it's dragging on a bit now. We're leaving it so late that we might not get anybody. |

If you have ever listened to Alex at a sports forum you will understand how annoyed he gets when hard work is undone by mouthy agents and other sky sources reveal his targets.. Lets face it we are one of maybe two or three clubs that are looking to buy to improve, the remainder are those that need or have to buy and then theres the top six who either have no money or dont want to/need to buy at all. It was always going to be a boring window, and the reality of the economy has had its effect as well. |

It shows how the worlds financial state has hit football when there are so many clubs using the window to sell players to stay afloat. Has to be a wake up call to the premier league. |

I know what you mean, but for me, this is the best transfer window ever. We've already bought a long-term target in Michel, and we've got money to spend for once. To be linked with so many great players is wonderful, rather than wondering if we might be able to get Kevin Francis on loan. |

think the problem is that every other transfer window we've had no money and were l(stupidly) inked with world class stars which to some extent was fun now we've got money allegedly ..... there is a wall of stoney silence with everyone knowing our alleged budget , is this just a case of wills....... who'll break 1st i've still got faith that Mcleish will bring in that 'marquee ' signing as long as they don't hold us to ransom over it whoever they maybe but your right it is the worst window i've known for a long time :silence: |

One of the best transfer windows in terms of speculation in my opinion! With finances so tight, I expect the majority of the dealings to happen during the last few days of the window once one club makes a move and creates a domino effect across the market. I wouldn't be disappointed. The signing of Michel was a great start - the best is yet to come! |

McLeish has the cash! McLeish just does not want to spend it on players he deems not worth the fees and wages they want. £14M deal and £70K wages for Jones, McLeish feels he is not worth that if McLeish said to Yeung thats who i want and pleeded like he did with Sully and Gold for Michel  I am sure Yeung would have coughed up. McLeish is not going to be recklass with the cash like say Keane was with Sunderlands **thumbup Trust me come next January i dont think we will be complaining then. Lets imagine that if McLeish signed the following (now IMAGINE just pretend **thumbup ). Jones £14M deal.............. £70K a week Babel £12M ..............£70K a week McGeady.............. £12M £40K a week Parker £8M.............. £70K a week We would have £46M worth of players who we may have overpaid for, McLeish wont spend silly cash! If Villa ask for £5M for Gardener i am sure McLeish may walk away. If we was silly we could i supose had signed Kuranyi for £130K a week, hey maybe offer Vieira more than Man City and £150K a week. Both prices way overpaying and McLeish will not do that, he is looking out for our club and not Yeungs plans untill he sees signs of fruitrition. He does not want to go spending the first £60M he would have on say £40M worth of players in case Yeungs plans dont work and our club could be in trouble. |

We dont actually NEED to buy anyone. If the goal was purely survival, we are almost assured of doing that with our current squad. Yes, it would be brilliant to finish above mid-table, but not if the cost of doing so is to pay about £5m more for each player brought in than we would pay at the end of the season. I'm fairly certain we'll see one or two arrivals - but even if it didn't happen it wouldn't really bother me. |

I think McLeish will want to make at least one Striker signing of better quality than we have so maybe £8M+ player. Other than that he is also looking at Strength in Depth/future hence Michel and most likely Gardener signings. I still feel Adam Johnson or Victor Moses are players we should look at they are cheaper £6M Johnson and £5M Moses and both clubs may take players in exhange i.e Phillips/McSheffrey. |

Totally agree Clubs and their managers will step up the hunt during the last 5 days or so It always happens that way And the very last day of the window is by far the busiest Be patient, folks |

The fact that we have some money to spend in a market where the finances of other clubs is so tight makes this transfer window unprecedented in our history and therefore may be the best transfer window ever. While an excess of transfer speculation linked to Blues may be expected and the likes of the Vile MON and Mc'Gready Scots may take the p***, in negociating fees and packages Mc'Leish does have an element of power in this January window! :applause: He has already rejected two potential marquee signings (i.e. over £10m transfer + wages) and I doubt he can be forced to pay more than he wants to for any lesser aquisition! We are naturally going to get caught up in (some stress and disappointment) in the market, but I think we should all remain focused on the transfer talk linked directly to Mc'Leish to determine what is real and viable and what is not! **thumbup To my mind I think the transfer talk of continued interest from Mc'Leish and resulting secondary bids are the only true prospects in this market, for only they can indicate any measure of Big Eck's past 'Due Diligence'. well i am starting to get worried, there are literally only 8 working days left of the window, i hear people say prices will come down as the windows starts to shut....wrong, prices will go up, they know we have money and we need players and the clubs want the best money they can get for players, and who can blame them. we'll look a joke in a weeks time if we only have Michel ..zz.. the original poster is right |

We'll look more of a joke if we spend more on a player now than if we'd waited until the summer. I'm sure we'll get a couple in but if these are just players to bolster the squad that'll be fine by me. I'm sure we'd all like to see a big name coming in but won't bother me if we don't. |

Still same old bull with the same old targets and our manager has not even been in the country. I do think it was a good move by Eck though as he has got away from it all and the clubs that are sweating on the fact that we wont come in and spend £10 odd million on one of their players will be getting worried. The whole world knows liverpool & celtic need the money and dangling that sort of cash in front of them with they way EVERY club has gone about is too big a sum to pass up. The transfer fees are slowly turning into just players wages now, no club can pay £15 mill and then give them £3 mill a season on a 5 contract unless they are man city now. |

Babel's agents come out today saying that he and Ryan are 'studying' an offer from us. Seems to me Liverpool have relaxed in their demands and will be letting him go. |

Well £12-15M and £3-4M wages are what a big top 7-8 club can spend, those not in top 4-5 those would be their marque signings i.e team wont be full of them. (Then again Spurs spend like that but usually dont get much for their cash). This Window seems like Gardener will join Michel. Then McLeish is having 2nd thoughts on Babel as he is concerned of his attitude i,e he was not to keen before, and more likely McLeish feels again the deal could cost us upto like £22-25M wages and fee, seems £9-10M is not so much the problem it could be £60-70K wages especially for a player who potentially can throw a strop if things are not going their way. Pavlyuchenko could now be a option, but i guess it depends on wages and fee as i am sure McLeish does not want to risk upto £10M on him. McGeady seems he could be interested, its just Celtic are asking for at least £11M and i dont know if McLeish wants to spend that much on him or its a case of we dont have that much. Tatts also said McLeish still has a few options as far as Strikers go if a Babel/Pavlyuchenko dont happen or cost more than McLeish feels they are worth. As far as Johnson goes, Tatts seemed to think he would not see us as small fish now, but McLeish is keen on McGeady instead. So i guess McLeish would see no point in getting Johnson now, if he is confident that even if in the summer he can get McGeady as with McGeady, McFadden, Larsson and Fahey for the wings and indeed Gardener (Babel can cover if signed and needed). McLeish may feel that come the summer he does not want a sqaud full of wingers. |

It's important not to be held to ransom, I think that we can all agree on that. I'd rather start Phillips upfront than get stung for fees and wages with a petulant Babel. I'm more upbeat about Pav and especially McGeady. I can see Celtic cracking next week. |

We're being linked with names like Pavyluchenko, Babel, Jones and McGeady, and are very likely to smash (and potentially double) or current transfer record....how can it be the worst window ever??? A year ago we were all gripped when Sullivan said we might be signing Matt Mills on an emergency loan because we weren't able to get him in the transfer window and we were having to loan out Stephen Kelly to be able to afford the £1.5m fee! Enjoy this while it lasts I say! |

Thats what i think £11M is a hell of a lot of money for the SPL, thats like a what £40M windfall in the Prem as far as what it could cover. If Celtic feel he has potential, then surely a sell on fee would be ideal for them, if McGeady becomes world class as some feel he could be and we sell him to big clubs for £20M or more hey a 20% sell on fee would no doubt give Celtic another nice windfall **thumbup I say offer £8M plus £2-3M addons and a nice 20% sell on fee would be a good deal for Celtic and for us well if he proves to not be that good we wont end up playing £11M for him, if he is and especially if we then sell him on Cetic are quids in :bluzz: |

That's an excellent post. You are absolutely right, look how far we have come in twelve months. Just remember at the end of last years window we had no recognised right back and had to use Seb until Carr came in. Eck is biding his time and something will crack. If not we go with what we have got and they haven't done too badly have they. |

go with what we got, jesus i hope not, a few injuries and it's bound to happen (we're Blues  )we'd be in serious trouble, not relegation but i'm sure everyone would be happy with 17th, when it could have been top 10! |
