Looking at the dire situation that Portsmouth are in I would be interested to see McLeish taking a look at Younes Kaboul. The French defender has looked very impressive this season and, if the Pompey financial situation is anything to go by, they could be tempted with a decent offer for the centre half. Although one stumbling block could be the rumours in this front room blog that other clubs such as Spurs are interested in Kaboul, I think we could offer him guaranteed first-team football and the price/wages should not really be an issue for us.
Does anybody else think Kaboul could be a good option?

I certainly don't think that we could guarantee him first team football, but I'd have him for a knock-down price. I think that Belhadj is a better option from the upcoming fire sale though.

1. Pompey are looking for like £10m for him.

2. He wouldnt come here without the guarentee of first team football, and with Johnson and Dann firmly established at the back, we couldnt offer that.

3. We dont particularly need a centre half, yet alone one that costs more than our current pair combined and wouldnt start for us.

The money will be better spent on the positions we need (left back, striker etc)

Kaboul....NO

Matthew Kilgallon...YES

Kilgallon who wants immediate first team football, coupled with a huge wage?

He's not gonna get that here, and doesn't warrant it ahead of our first choice two... if he was willing to be back up and not request big wages, then id be all for it.

Kaboul got literaly ripped to pieces playing against Birmingham last time we were relegated. I have seen nothing since to suggest he has improved too much

Aha. Who would want Matt Kilgallon, a defender no Premier League is willing to gamble on, over Younes Kaboul, one of the better performers in any team this season. Ludicrous.

Who wouldve wanted Roger Johnson or Scott Dann over established Prem defenders in the Summer? Nobody I dont think.

Look at them now.

The difference being someone actually did take a gamble on them two, us.

Kilgallon has been at the heart of Sheffield United's defence for years - including a Premier League campaign. And yet no-one is willing to stump up a couple or three million to make him their player?

That says it all to me.

Teams have been tracking him, he's been heavily linked to clubs all over the place recently, and who knows what goes on behind the scenes, maybe he's decided to see out his contract at Sheffield United before having a choice of clubs in the summer?

Or not.

Our old friend Brucie is "taking a risk" on him, and he's having a medical in Sunderland tonight....

At £1.75million, not that great a risk either. Would have been a good back up to RJ&SD....imo.
