Blues would be a perfect team for any strikers looking for consistent playing time in order to boost their hopes at making South Africa this summer.
A guy like Michael Owen is a fringe player at Man Utd, and doesn't appear regularly enough for a shot at a spot on England. But he can still score goals - I think he's 3rd overall at Man Utd, and has had a fraction of the playing time of Berbatov and Rooney.
I could see him feeding off Chucho's passes, or linking up with Jerome to poach some goals. I could even see Chucho and Jerome playing behind him if we are looking to attack in a 4-3-2-1 setup.
I don't think it's a crazy idea - all other top strikers are either happy with their current situation, or unproven, or have other issues that make them unappealling or unattainable. I think Blues are the perfect team for someone that wants a last chance to prove a point. We are doing well in the standings, have a solid defense...we have everything except a top striker.

Agree 100% Id rather us get Boyd on a free than Owen. Dont get me wrong Owen is by far the better player but Owen would demand rediculous wages and just doesnt look like the player he was 2-3 years ago.

Said at the time he was a panic signing, and a waste... seen nothing to tell me otherwise.
Tainio was simply just brought in when it became obvious that the board wouldnt stump up the funds McLeish needed for Michel.
Now McLeish has Michel, and looks more or less like having Gardner in his team too... Tainio has no place here... if only Sunderland would call him back and let us loan someone else in before the deadline.

I remember him saving a certain goal from the goal line in the game against Hull or Stoke. A crucial game early in the season that could have made a big difference.
If you start to think about it a lot of players in the present Blues squad aren't really that good.
As far as Michael Owen, well maybe. But I like the way you think, thread starter. Blues has to think big and constantly think how to really challenge the big clubs.

Exactly, people have short memories, remember the 1st few games he came in and played well because we had no other options at all.
People can suggest we should have got this player or that player but Tainio served a very good purpose at the time.

He would be a marquee signing and I imagine most Blues fans would love him here. However, I can't see it for a number of reasons. I wouldn't even say its the wages. Owen gives Fergie options when Berbatov goes missing in games which he often does.
It won't happen.
What about Macheda though? Is he still at Man Utd?
