I know a few people including myself wanted to see Fads in a more upfront/central attacking midfield role for at least a game to see how he gets on, as he has said that is his natural position and where he wants to play. Just wondering what people made of his chance to impress today at the fore-front of our attack?

The flick for the 2nd goal says it all really... He played well, was involved and worked hard...

He has the ability to make something out of nothing...

I've said it before.. it doesn't always come off for him but he will keep trying to make things happen, he's a much better player than a lot of people give him credit for imo...

He played well today, worked his socks off as usual, but no disrespect to him, I'd still prefer a big striker who can finish up front with Benitez, just my opinion.

Fadds really is an enigma. A fantastic footballer. But where do you play him? He aint got the pace for a winger, or the tackling ability of a midfielder. So that just leaves the forward position. So, i would certainly give him a go with Chucho!!

He was great today - the whole team dropped off in the 2nd half, because we were under constant pressure and Chucho and McFadden were the only players upfield.

Its always hard playing against your former club ... I think he had a great first half, was involved in practically every move and worked his socks off...

In the second half he still continued to run, and worked as equally hard...but he always seemed in a hurry on the ball, I dont think he possesses the ability to hold up the ball and wait for reinforcements, he always tries to do stuff alone..

Loved the songs though ... James Mcfadden is a blue, is a blue, is a blue, James Mcfadden is a blue, he hates scousers!

I liked today's line up. I like the idea of two quick, clever forwards with a bit of quality. Today there was not a single "Oh bloody Jerome" moment. Chucho was immense today - for his goal he started it all way back near our penalty area - he kept possession and kept things moving when he had the ball. I would like to see today's team stay together for a while.

I've always liked Jimmy Mac. My only problem with him is when things aren't going well and he keeps losing the ball, sometimes his head can drop and he goes missing from the match.

Quality player when his confidence is up and he's just brilliant at linking up the play.

Did we play 4 5 1 or 4 4 1 1 today?

I only watched the first half today and his touch for fergie's goal was amazing

4-4-2 ... Fadds and Chucho upfront...

Fahey taking Fadds spot on the left-wing

i have been saying for ages he's wasted as a winger

he is NOT a winger but with the lack of form of McSheffrey he has done a shift and filled in.

If/when we sign a new winger we can experiment @home a bit more ie using a player in the hole, that can be faddy

i certainly rate the fella and don't want rid

Faddy can play wide left, but not as an out and out winger.

He hasnt got the pace to fly past his man and whip a cross in.

Where he is dangerous though is drifting in off the wing, and joining the attack... give him space and he'll hurt teams... he had time and space today and came up with a brilliant bit of skill for Ferguson's goal.

If he wants to keep his place in this side, it'll have to be as a front man.

I've thought he's been playing poorly now for quite a while. Wide left he's put so much pressure on Ridgewell & Ferguson to clean up after him, contributed very little except for the odd time one of his little touches comes off, as it did yesterday.
The midfield needs balancing in my opinion if we're to try and become a consistent, genuine top half side - he doesn't do enough to keep his place for me.

But as a striker, that's different.
With only Jerome & Benitez ahead of him, he'll get plenty of playing time, saving us a few quid in the process.

I think the problem if you play both Chucho and Faddy upfront in a 4-4-2 formation is they suffer slightly from being smaller players. Whe you have a bigger player who can hold the ball up and knock down the other smaller player can work of him.

If you have two smaller strikers you have to work the ball on the ground much more the aerial threat is taken away much more. While they may get the odd header they wont be favourites for this. Also in the case of 4-5-1 when breaking the counter the ball is able to be played of the ground much more as you can attack in greater numbers.

I think Chucho and Faddy as forwards should be picked if there is no other pairing available as they will both be playing in their natural positions. However I think we need a tall striker then play one or the other along side him.

That's what we were doing very effectively yesterday. We ripped everton apart for both goals passing from the back to the front.

The itv highlights didn't show the build ups.

Faddy really shined against Everton playing in what (for me) is one of his more natural positions (second forward/deep lying forward).

In my opinion we would have done a bit better to start the season had he been moved from the wing (replaced by Fahey), and played alongside one of the other centre forwards, but that's history now.
