The away support was absolutely amazing yet again yesterday, cant think of many games this season with better atmosphere within our fans than yesterday... But I was wondering why our home support is never as good as that? We sing loudly for the full 90 minutes away from home, and always outsing our opponents ten-fold... But at home it only ever seems to be the Tilton that sing and get behind the boys for the whole game ... (This may be wrong as I cant hear every stand in the stadium so I apologise if their are sections within the stands that do sing) But is it like that with every club? I know weve played United home and away this season and their away support was alot better then they were at home, but I was just wondering because the difference between our away and home is vast. Yesterday for about 20 minutes the slow rendition of ''When the Blues go marching in'' was absolutely amazing, one of my highlights of the season ... Sounded amazing and even better then when Spurs do it! feed.back |

Perhaps, just perhaps, a fair few people go to St Andrews to watch the game. I take it that what constitutes "amazing support" for you is "singing loud for the full ninety minutes". I think I may be right in saying that most people who attend a football match pay their hard-earned money to be entertained watching a football match, not singing for ninety minutes.............I'm sure events like Glastonbury are for that. |

So when Mcleish saying he wanted to turn St Andrews into a fortress buzzing with noise intimidating the opposition and encouraging our players... He should have just bought them 11 tickets to Glastonbury ... Hmmmmm |

The difference is that in away matches the fans are all grouped together in one small area. With grounds being all seater it means that you sit in your allocated seat and can't all get together to sing so there appears to be less people singing. I haven't been this season but, from where I sat last season, the noise from the Tilton was no better than anywhere else. However, I would love it if one part of the ground, preferably the Tilton, could be changed to a 'safe standing' area as I believe they have at some grounds abroad. In that way I'm sure the noise generated would increase. |

You don't have to sing constantly for 90 mins to make a home fortress.......sell-out crowds are more conjusive for that. Take Stamford Bridge which became the best fortress, always full, has the atmosphere but not a 90 minute sing-a-long. We need a full house, a huge noise volume at the beginning, proper songs from time to time throughout and huge noise volume at any appropriate time the players or the game warrants it. 90 minutes singing? yes - go to Glastonbury. |

Yeah but Chelsea have got players much better than ours, so they could play in a quiet room and be just as good behind closed doors, they dont need high noise levels to provoke their class and confidence... The way we play, especially when defending is based around team play, high spirit and ecouragement... When are you going to have time to make 'huge noise at an appropriate time' when you are stuck in your half defending for a good 20 minute stint? I would much rather be in an area like where I sit with my Season Ticket in the Tilton and be around people that sing alot, gives me a sense of helping out the boys, being the '12th man'... I think it may be because im still really young, and alot of the older generation of noses seem to dislike the constant singing, but I love it, I think it captures the image of us enjoying ourself on this run because we are not the sort of team like the Arsenals,Chelseas etc that can turn up to a game, expect a win and nice football... So I like to show my appreciation by singing... And away from home everybody does it, and the game is much more memorable if youre singing and enjoying yourself IMO... I just get fed up sometimes of people slagging off our home support :banner: |

sorry lowdham i disagree with you there mate, going the blues is all about the atmos. yesterday was quality. just how blues fans used to. the feel good factor is back. and all that was there yesterday were quality supporters who gave 100% vocal support. i went home on the everton supporters coach and they even complemented the blues support. my hats off to all the bluenoses for yesterday loud and proud it was. |

This is oh so ironic. Oh When the Spurs has been their anthem ever since I can remember. Over the last three/four years they have slowed it down to the original ..to great effect. Instead of copying Spurs anthem in their proper effective way of delivering it why don't we concentrate on doing the same for Keep Right On. The irony of it. We have an anthem which has been ruined but we adopt someone else's anthem in the original non-ruined way. Lukey H, this is not a go at you ............ but all of us....and keep your singing up in the Tilton **thumbup . I suppose my beef is the chavs who sing to bait away supporters and also those inane songs Man U sing for 90 mins. |

Well said Lukey H mate! You have a strong point and it's largely based around common sense. I would 90% of away support up and down the country is better, and yes i mean the word 'better' in terms of singing and support through volume, than their team's home support. Two main reasons probably; one - all grouped together and you're outnumbered therefore want to make your presence felt. And two the away support may be more 'die hard' shall i say, in that they know more songs and willing to sing them. Now not that home support aren't 'die hard', just the away fans will probably be more up for it and willing to sing.for the full game. But it is hard to get the whole ground singing the same song due to the size. I would say smaller compact grounds have a better atmosphere, COMPARITIVELY. Before everyone asks if accrington stanley make more noise than st.james park! It's a mentality thing anyway Lukey H. K.R.O |

It werent my idea to sing it, but when a couple thousand Bluenoses are singing a great song and it sounded amazing, im not gonna stay silent just because its Spurs anthem... Alot of football clubs take songs that are more frequently used by other clubs supporters and adapt them abit. I think it was so succesfull because it is a song that can flow straight into another chorus of it and keep on going and going, it started off really slow for a few verses, and then it slowly started to speed up whilst every1 stamped and clapped in time... It was great! Kind of like in the Tilton against United when 'I am a City fan' was sang and kept on getting repeated over and over... Bought such a good feel-good factor to so many people. Maybe you had to actually be there to appreciate it, but I would take that for a day-out rather then sitting their in silence with the odd 'Keep right on' when we score a goal, any day of the week!! |

Yeah I totally agree with you mate. You and blacksmith are right, I think because so many fans are grouped together with the mentality of the whole 'Were away from home, good day out, lets make some noise' ... But one thing is for sure, I look forward to away games about 10 times more then I do home games... Not only for the fact that everyone seems to share the viewpoint that we should sing as loud and as frequent as possible to let people know who we are, but I just love seeing other stadiums and meeting other fans before and after the game that you wouldnt usually get a chance to speak to, as alot of the Lpool/Arsenal/everton/United fans etc that i know dont actually go to alot of the games as they live here in Brum.. The everton fans were excellent yesterday after the game, as I was walking back to the coach at least 16/17 different Evertonians patted me on the back and told me that we deserved the win, and deserve to go all the way for the effort the fans and players have put in this season... Its so good to hear other fans in person tell you good stuff about your team, especially fans of a great club like Everton |

I stopped singing a few years ago because all they can muster up at home is KRO which I'm sorry to say gets boring after a few times. Listen to other teams and they have at least 5-6 songs for home matches. Better still, just watch some of the German League games on ESPN to see how home crowds are and the amount of songs they sing. No wonder away teams sing " you've only got one song", its true |

the club did try to help last season by having te singing area, its just a shame no-one sat there to sing. We should have one area where st holders who all like to sing etc all congregate to get a massive noise. |

Stoke are showing right now in the Cup why you should sing loud and frequent at home... They're beating Arsenal 1-0 and they are so loud its unbelievable! The arsenal players are passing it sloppily and not playing nice stuff, and on top of that it is getting the Stokies pumped on the pitch.. Perfect example! |

Part of what makes going to a football match entertaining is the atmosphere, the banter of the crowds exchanging insults, teasing etc. It isn't just women that can do two things at once, so I'm sure singing and encouraging your team to win whilst watching isn't too much of an ask or would you prefer silence? I know I certainly wouldn't, give me a brilliant atmosphere evry time! |

The singing area was doomed from the outset by it's location. There are a large group of people who sing at the back of the tilton, and a large group towards the away fans end of the kop...I sit slap bang in the middle of these and can barely hear either of them. The singing area was blocks 1 and 2? The only people who'd be able to hear that are the end blocks in the main stand and the surrounding blocks in the Tilton. |

Away fans tend to be hard core, and as they're all grouped together representing their town/city, they give a very good performance in general. Watford fans at our place in the play offs never shut up for the entire match, it must have given their players a lift (as well as the Holdsworth sending off). It's a proper day out going away from home, it's more of an event. Home matches become run of the mill, and those same hard core fans that were at Everton yesterday will now be dotted around St Andrews. Get the club to sell singing section ST's from next season. |

You've got various type of fans at the end of the day. For a Mum and Dad to take their kids along to watch the Blues and expect Mum to give it large with SOTV at the same time as trying to be a good role model to ther kids is a bit much. Having said that they paid their money turned up gasped, cheered and clapped and have every right to be there as anyone else. At the same time you have a section of fans who will be more passionate and will support the team with KRO and all the rest. Against ManU when an extra 6 minutes were played the Tilton gave it their all and it was fantastic. I always find it a bit difficult because I want some of the atmosphere but I also want to sit in the best area and see the football. When sitting in club class and I get a bit verbal I get funny looks and have to tone it down. But in the Tilton you dont always see the goal if it's at the other end in the first half. But the atmosphere is the best. I think in terms of making the place a fortress McLeish actually means filling it for all games rather than the noise. The bigger the crowd the more impact they will have on the game singing or not. |

our support was class yesterday. and yes getting behind the team does involve both going to the games, and singing, lets not pretend it doesnt! a noisy intimidating atmosphere can help the home team and put the away team off, just look at some of the results the Turkish teams can manage at home, when they play much better teams who just arent up for it! if people go to watch just the game of football, then why dont you go to watch teams that play better football? football supporters go to games to encourage there team. |
