OK, this is purely speculative.

1. Micheal Owen needs to play first team, top division football in one of 3 or 4 European leagues between now & April in order to have any chance of being selected for the World Cup (IMO)

2. Fergie has said that he is not planning to use Rooney & Owen (OK, he might have done so on Saturday) in the same team.

3. Fergie is not going to drop Rooney in place of Owen

4. Blues need a proven goal scoring striker in order to boost an otherwise "well rounded" team.

5. Alex McLeish doesn't want to spend big bucks - outlay or wages (I can understand that) on a player who might disrupt the dressing room

So would it be worth a "cheeky tap up" of Sir Alex to take Owen on loan until the end of the season, as long as ManUre were to pay at least 50% of his wages?

(Not sure if I should have put this in Transfer, Blues Talk, Football Chat or Jokes! )

If Rooney got injured they would be in trouble with Owen out.

1. We have no loan spots left (2 domestic loans per season (Hart + Tainio)

2. United have 5 strikers in total at the club... Macheda (young and doesnt play), Rooney (first choice, top class), Mame Diouf (settling in), Dimitar Berbatov (hit and miss and currently carrying a knee injury) and Michael Owen.

We can not loan another English player....

If we could i am sure Eck would have made a move for Pavy or Babel on loan first.

Even though Clubs would want sales not loans.

I do think we may have to settle for a loan if no deals come off, and i would rather loan from abroad than buy a cheaper player for £5-7M who say was not really in McLeish's plans or instead not sign anyone in case of injuries.
