Just my opinion. A pretty poor team performance with several players below par. The ball didn't zip through midfield as we know it can, and Savage probably won the midfield battle on his own. Nevertheless, we didn't give in and, with some much needed substitutions, we came good in the end. Joe Hart: 6: Mistake cost us a goal, but otherwise seemed in control of his area. One terrific save. Some poor kicking at times though. Stephen Carr: 6: Energetic, but didn't link up as well as we know he can Roger Johnson: 6: Solid enough most of the time, but a few nervy moments. Dann got him out of jail at least once. Scott Dann: 8: For me our best player. Solid throughout. Very aware when others were struggling. Plus got a goal! Liam Ridgewell: 7: I thought Ridgwell did okay and threatened going forward. It was a tough day for him because the midfield were losing the battle and he was always under pressure. Made sure the ball crossed the line for our winner (and I dont think it would have otherwise). Sebastian Larsson: 4: He's in a bad run of form. He looks tired. Offered very little width on the right (oops, getting my left and right mixed up). I cant think of anything good to say about him. Barry Ferguson: 6: Okay. Kept going but was less effective than we know he can be. Lee Bowyer: 6: Same as Ferguson. James McFadden: 5: Until the period immediately before he was subbed, everything he tried went wrong. Added no threat at all. And then, he started to get into the game and was subbed! Christian Benitez: 4: Lightweight. Poor positional play. Lost. Cameron Jerome: 6: Ran well which scared Derby's defence. Poor first touch and no accuracy in his shooting. A typical Jerome performance. Keith Fahey (Sub): 6: Big improvement on Seb. Added some threat. Got into the game quickly. Craig Gardner (Sub): 6: Improvement on McFadden. Keen to do well. Spirited. Kevin Phillip (Sub): 6: A vast improvement on Chucho. An immediate threat, His presence in the box led to the winner. |

Hart - 6. Should have done better for the goal. Kicking off sorts, mainly due to pitch. Superb save at the last. Carr - 6. decent no more Johnson - 5. Heading was weak, terrorised by Hulse and Kommons. (sp) Dann - 6. Gave away too many free kicks. Got the goal. Ridgewell - 7. One of our better players. Strong ran well, still a centre back. Larsson - 4. Failed to get into the game. Ferguson -6. Seen better from him. Bowyer - 6. Poor first half, came good second. McFadden - 6. Tried, got an assist. Jerome - 6. Ran strongly, poor touch first half. Improved with Phillips. Benitez - 2. I know this sounds harsh, but he really did nothing today, I'm not bashing him, but he had an off day, we all do. |

Hart - 6 - Dodgy pitch didnt help kicking, but pulled off a couple of good saves, none more so than the one from Savage at the end. Carr - 7 - Reliable as usual at the back, has a knack of being in the right position to help out the centre halves, or for a little knock down to get us up the pitch. Ridgewell - 7 - Good showing from him IMO, and got us the winner of course. Wasnt given a hard time, but got forward well, and tried to do two players jobs down the left as best he could. Johnson - 6 - Not his best, bit of a dip in form recently, but he and Dann improved together as a partnership after their goal and were rock solid then. Dann - 8 - Thought he was our best player today. Helped Johnson through his tough time, bailed him out once, got a goal, and done pretty well against Hulse. Larsson - 5 - What happened to him? McFadden - 5 - Same. Did whip a fantastic corner in for Dann's goal, then started to get into the game but got subbed. Bowyer - 6 - Unspectacular and overrun midfield performance from us as a whole IMO, Bowyer to me, still looks tired and in need of a rest. Ferguson - 6 - Quiet, not given any time on the ball by Savage, and struggled today. Jerome - 7 - Full of running, battled away and won us throws and corners when we had no right to have them... had a great chance that Bywater saved well, and linked well with Phillips. Benitez - 5 - Struggled with the hustle and bustle nature of the game, and the instant closing down... plus looked a little bit off the pace, as if rushed back maybe? Did well running wise and a few neat touches. Fahey - 6 - Didnt do much, but neat down the wing. Gardner - 6 - Pish poor free kick for our winner, but who cares eh, if he hit it properly, it probably wouldve ended up with us Bluenoses behind the goal. Phillips - 7 - Back in his best position, impact sub! Let Jerome and Benitez run the defenders for 60/70 mins and tire them out, then introduce the cleverer and lethal Phillips... spot on from McLeish today on the way he used Kev. |

So, just out of interest, did you think that McFadden and Larsson played well yesterday? It's a genuine question because people have different perceptions of what players contribute to the game. You see, I'm struggling to see what Larsson in particular has contributed over the last three or four games that either Fahey, Michel or Gardner couldn't have done better. Yesterday in particular he was rarely in a wide position, which made us rather narrow in midfield. Maybe he was playing under instruction, but it didn't suit his game. Yes, playing a Championship team is always hard, but that doesn't mean that we cant rate the players accurately..... |

Spot on post about Larsson, thought he was terrible again yesterday completely out of form and needs removing from the team for a while, McFadden didn't play to well either but was just starting to get into the game then he was subbed. 6 Hart 7 Carr 7 Dann 6 Johnston 7 Ridgewell 4 Larsson 6 Ferguson 6 Bowyer 5 McFadden 4 Benitez 6 Jerome only just a 6, his first touch doesn't exsist he controls the ball further than i can kick it?? 6 Phillips 6 Gardner 6 Fahey |

Bowyer, Larsson and McFadden have offered nothing to the team for weeks. We need a reshuffle. No options going forward so will have to stick with what we have. Jerome and Chuccho only run forward, they NEVER turn to face the midfield. Its hard to find your forwards when they are always running away from you. |

disagree with this. Jerome is always running forward but from what i have seen of benitez for us and for santos, he prefers picking the ball up deep and running at defenders. I also agree with the bowyer statement. maby time for michel to get a run in the team and also gardner has looked good so far. |

Great little through ball from Seb for Jerome who should have scored in the 1st half. |

There's an oxymoron in that sentence, can anybody spot it. Clue...Jerome and running. When he runs, he's good. But he hardly does it. Constantly strolls back on side with his hands in the air leaving us a man down on the break. tomatoes Did anyone else notice, every single player came over to the crowd and clapped them yesterday. Except Jerome, he couldn't get off the pitch faster enough. Funny as well, people were saying they waited for the coach, every player signed autographs etc except one....... Not sure he's as commited s we'd like to think. |
