I know we think we are all managers but Big Ek's comments after the West Ham game are a bit amazing that we were unlucky etc etc. we were shocking. The commentators this side of the world most weeks have a pop at us and gloried Wednesday night and took a swipe again last night. It wasn't the first game either and again against Derby we look like we have run out of ideas. We cannot keep on saying we were off the pace etc. (Have a look back and see how many reports say that - well before the first Notts Forrest game!!) The Wolves game we can congratulate Super Kev, but b*****k the rest of the team. West Ham all of them should be b*****ked and yesterday questions all round have to be asked what is not working within the team play? Previous posts are having a dig about Seb. Look at his all round contribution. Fans tend to forget his work rate. Carr cannot make so much forward running and game play if it was not for the support of Seb. And then Sebs day job is constant running throughout the whole field - most of the time having to cover others lack of energy. Before he can even look at what he should really be doing - so unselfish! When he got subbed last night he took it on the Chin - fair play!! It's such a huge pity McFad cannot do the same. Why should he look so disappointed when he gets Subbed? The commentator said it all last night " James because you have just not worked or contributed hard enough for 80mins!" I would have added " and you should have come off after 45 mins!" Liam is not the best left back/centre half and most of the danger this year has come against us from the left. Both contributing factors are probably because of these 2 players. Liam needs help. He gets it from 2 outstanding Centre backs - not his left midfielder! Yes McFad has skill, but we carry him far too long for him to show 1 or 2 glimpses. We are a working energetic team for each other and it's probably time now to give the Young Irish man a chance to pick up the tired looking week area of the team, to see us through to the end of the season. Jerome again is such a worker. I am not an admirer of the lad, but hell he works his socks of and it shows (look at when he was injured how much we missed his energy) when he is not there. It's a pity we cannot work on the rest of his play and link up. Kev can only do the last 30 mins. It showed against West Ham but then again he got no service all night. But a great player to use for the last 30! Chucko should be a clown on the Ice rink! He always falls over and just not strong enough!! He maybe worth a million and will cover a gap until the season end - but thats all. If and when we spend more pre-season on decent strikers - he will be long forgotten. Problem is, we do not have any to even step in, so we thinks he is God. The midfield heart probably needs some fresh air and we should now use the Squad guys to chop and change it. They have run out of ideas - and a bit of energy (fair play, I can't believe they have lasted so well to this stage). Maybe a few changes will make us tick again. We really have been living on a wing and a prayer with scraping results. West Ham proved that and we have a rode such fantastic luck for so long - fair play to all the guys again with Literally "Keep right On To The End of The road", but time to freshen legs and ideas. I'm not having a pop. I am so proud watching our boys from thousands of miles away and getting up on a "School day" at 3.30 to do it when the call comes. And it's fantastic that suddenly people here know who we are - apart from the negative commentators having a go. So Big Man - be bold and brave now!! Swap your Scottish cousins around and bear their wrath. We need you to be bold with them and others now. Lets get creative in the line up before we can be creative on the field. Finally - thank you to the whole squad for making a Journeyed Bluenose proud of what you have achieved so far this year (remember I said I was not having a Pop). I look forward to seeing you at the "home of football" in May and China in the next few months. K.R.O. to you all. :Blues: |

Not having a pop? Chucho a clown, McFadden and Ridgewell criticised. It sounds very much like 'having a pop'. I can only presume you haven't followed the blues for long, because if you are not satisfied with this season you never will be. We are in the quarter final of the fa cup, have a chance at qualifying for europe, and had our best top flight run for over a hundred years. I know there are times when we havent played well, but this is Blues. Try and enjoy the rest of the season, its been great so far. |

Well I partially agree with you. But also have to ask the question what did you expect? We have been a team punching above our weight all season. The players must be congratulated for this. To expect them to go the whole season without becoming a bot jaded, tired at times is not fair. We are very much a fledgling side. From what I could see McLeish did try to introduce more invention during the January transfer window. Unfortunately the timing wasnt right and he has been unable to get the players in that he wants. He has done the right thing saving the money and looking again in the summer. The team and management have done an excellent job in the way they have gone about attaining their objective staying up and we can almost look forward to top flight football next season. As fans we always want more and woe betide players if they dont produce it every game. Can't us fans just congratulate the players and be proud of what they have achieved this season and support them. We dont have to barrack these lads in to putting in a performance for us. They are willing to do it. They have achieved something that Francis and Latchford at their best couldnt do. We dont have a player of the class of Francis in the side. But collectively they have proved as good as any Blues side we have had. How can you do anything else but applaud? :applause: |

37 out of 37 years true Blue Blood! Being a typical Bluenose scared of what may happen because of the success and falling down the table and asking the questions now before it's too late. Maybe living away (watching every game live) and seeing more of the neutral views and comments(Not so biased but still 100% committed) have changed my perspective of when Blues play - but surely even you can see that we are scrapping these wins, maybe some times undeservedly (but fighting worth it's about time we got some luck) and all i was saying was bring in some of the rest of the squad some more as we are getting found out. And we do have weaker players fighting above their weight (and i'm so chuffed they give it their all) but looking at some previous mails their was a lot of critics re Seb and Jerome especially but know one seemed to pick up on what I was saying in my comments why maybe they are not quite where we need them to be. (In a nutshell work rate is 150% which is formidable!!) Chucko looks like he won't be the goal scorer we crave for from the days of the top flight in the likes of Wayne Clarke (we don't seem to ever find this type of player in his early prime) (but yes not waste the money as an emergency ploy when we do not need to - I agree Alex tried!!) but what does annoy me is when McFads every time he is subbed keeps on pulling faces when he really does not give it his all and personally I am surprised that he keeps on starting the game - maybe that may change as our fantastic record has been broken and the superstision of keeping the same squad can now be reviewed. Nothing stops Alex from now looking at the squad to keep us on this fantastic run - surely like you all we share those deep feelings that we are scared it could go wrong and we have some good players to also play their part and keep the others on their toes. (we have 3 good midfielders on that bench now to see what they can do) K.R.O. |

I see nothing wrong with this thread either! Objective and open, honest appraisal of what has been an amazing season thus far. And the comment "We really have been living on a wing and a prayer with scraping results" is spot on! Even the most die-hard Bluenose would have to agree with that! Every game won by just one goal... how much do we have to thank Joe Hart for? His heroics between the posts have possibly earned us 27 of our 37 points... if those 10 wins (by one goal) had been draws, and the draws had been losses, we'd be propping up the table! OK... I know those are 'what ifs and maybes', but we have to be realistic about our progress... and thankful for the position we are currently in. Beyond expectations certainly... and any element of 'luck' involved, over the course of a season, evens itself out. BUT... there is so much room for improvement. We don't score enough goals despite making the chances. We 'battle' hard and never give up but without ever dominating the opposition. We are known for our tenacity and 'never say die' attitude, which is admrable against the top teams like Chelsea, but against the so called 'struggling teams', and teams from lower divisions (in the Cup), we have looked mediocre. We have 'honest' and 'hardworking' players, but (with a possible few exceptions) lack genuine individual quality, creativity or flair. My view is that we have a fantastic platform now to move on and improve... to lose the 'yo yo club' tag and establish our place in the Premiership. We need more quality and, I'm sure, that will be addressed in the summer. Deano... I think your post is spot on. But of course if you stick your head above the parrapet on this forum, you should expect to be shot at! |

Lets just hope we do invest properly in the summer not just signing a few 1-3 million pound buys more like a 10-15 million pound striker 8-12 million pound midfielder and 4-8 million pound full backs. Then we can really move onwards and upwards! |

Everyone has different opinions on football, but why should deano be shouted down? I thought his post was spot on, as I try to look at games the same way as a neutral would. It is quite a hard job to do I know, but you need to live in the real world, and not have tunnel vision. We have punched above our weight and the players must realise this, but :drink: KRO. |

Fact... majority of Blues fans wouldve settled for 17th at the start of the season. Fact... we all expected nothing more than a relegation battle. Fact... our pre-season objective was simply staying in this League. Fact... some fans have gone over the top with expectations, and are in the progress of making expectations at this club laughable... Remember the amount of money we spent compared to other sides, and on the players we brought in compared to other sides... if we had spent £20m-£40m+ sorting the side out in the summer, then ok, maybe have high expectations...but we didnt did we. But still, we have moaners coming out from left, right and centre knocking the side that has been on our best run in the top flight in our history, who have got us to where we are in this division. Its beyond logic IMO but people will continue to moan no doubt, and will take over this place as soon as we lose games, as they have after Chelsea, and after West Ham (may I remind you, our only two losses since Saturday 17th October, 2009 against Arsenal at the Emirates). Wolves would be ecstatic to be 3 points from safety and in the cup quarters... Burnley the same, as would anyone else heavily tipped for relegation at the start of the season... why shouldnt we? We dont have a divine right to suddenly win every week and finish top 4/top 6 do we? Expectations need to be reigned in a little bit before people just begin to laugh at us to be fair. |

Well said Mikael..... completely agree. :applause: :applause: Our team is far from perfect (but then even Brazil of 1970 had faults). For the money we have spent, first year back after promotion, this season has been a dream and I am lapping it up. The players are surpassing our expectations, are attempting to play attractive passing football, hitting teams on the break with pace, defending with a determination rarely seen by any team, let alone Blues, and refusing to give up even when we go behind and are running out of time. I really do find it difficult to be too critical because each and every one of them gives their all when they are on the pitch - 100% effort. I thought that's what Blues fans demanded and anything else (like some quality) was a bonus? And this season we have seen the odd glimpse of quality and the possibility of what Alex with some money could achieve here. Survival was the objective in August and we will surpass that with ease. It has been the most unexpected season I have ever witnessed as a Blues fan and we will talk about it in years to come with fondness, once we are rubbish again. ( ) I love watching our team at the moment - the Ridgewell last minute goals and windmill arms, Hart's saves, Dann and Johnson throwing themselves in front of opposition shots, Ferguson with his chest puffed out running midfield, Bowyer and his non-stop running, Phillips class when he gets on, opposition fans failing to comprehend how they haven't beaten us with more of the possesion (it means nothing if they can't score) Jerome and Benitez scaring defences to death with their pace - ok I'm getting carried away but hey, I intend to enjoy this season - I may never see it's like again! |

Cheers BB!! It makes a change that we have had so much luck and I love milking every moment of it with the big team fans over here when we nip it!! In summary agree with you All!! All the facts too!! And it is fantastic that with another 3 points we live to tell another day in the Premiership. So just a question for you all... I bet (like me) we didn't want to loose by making a single change even though we just got by (All the stats and facts show that too!). So why not change it a little - The Game plan. Now we have had a couple of losses (1 quality against Chelsea and another by a team that should be on par with us), we can now make that big stride and bring the other fringe players in to the team!! Mix it up (with a different game plan - but please Alex no 1 up front!!) with a different of couple ideas and see what happens (It gives the others who sit it out on the bench food for thought). (also who knows Seb may find his way again - I said before i think he is covering too much ground for other players, and Chucko may come in to it more (possibly) with a couple of different players playing him in (we have a Quality Spanish play maker on the bench). Sometimes it's good to look at the bigger picture lads and rather slate certain players (Yes i had a pop earlier about Mcfads I KNow) see how we can make them tick with including the squad players and changing the style a bit (But not that die hard fighting, especially from the back 4) Its fantastic to be in the Quarters and what a chance to be in the Semi's and who knows... So a few weeks to try it out is all I'm saying - there really is no harm. We will Always fight to the death.. but who knows with what may happen even more with the fringe players making a name too with their own style, aggression and new energies (Remember other teams/managers study you before games and I personally (that's just me) think we have been found out (last 3 games for sure we were). Nothing to loose, even more to gain. **thumbup |

We are doing well but we can always strive to do better...OK we are 8th but I have watched almost every game and we just do not look that good to be honest, we are the lowest scorer's at home and we always seem to scrape a win or ust hold on for a draw we never really dominate a side, the team needs some money spent in the summer as I can see this side slowley going stale...Larsson and Chuco are not good enough IMO, this is not a moan but we must improve if we want to move on to the next stage. |

It's because he is an extremley limited footballer who has not contributed anything to the side for months! His constant running throughout the whole field? So he runs about like a headless chicken? Plus it's throughout the whole field, that's one of his problems, always coming too far infield. Larsson's defensive positional play is appalling, look how often Carr berates him for switching off and leaving his man! Just because he runs around a lot doesn't mean he is good defensively. There is nothing inventive about his play, he loses the ball time and again. 3 games now that have turned on their head once Seb has gone off, Spurs, Wolves and Derby. Coincidence? Give me McFadden over Larsson any day! Oh and remember that Mcfadden is also playing out of position and not playing his natural game put he is doing a job for the team! |

Agree McFads is playing out of position - But lack of energy wise and constant loosing the ball putting our left side (The renowned weekest link in our field of play) under constant pressure doesn't forgive him for playing out of position. So rather than trying to appease him, give Fahey a chance too Who is natural to that position and compliments Ridgewell with better support (By the way MacFads was in no mans land for Westhams 2nd goal when he came on, never picked up his player from where the goal came from - to kill us off). Looks like we havea difference view on our midfielders which makes the game so beautiful. Would be good to give the Spaniard a start for Ferguson before the Semi's to see what he can do from the off. :banner: |
