Derby: Birmingham alienate all age groups at Pride Park

Yesterday’s cup game against Birmingham provided a little bit of light relief from the week to week pressures of the Championship and was the third home game in succession in which Derby have been the underdogs. We won the previous two (Forest and the Cartoon army for non-Rams fans) and were very unlucky to lose to Birmingham yesterday.

Birmingham bought their full allocation of away tickets and I’m sure they enjoyed their day. Let’s face it, an injury-time winner in any away game is always a good thing. However the general arrogance and pathetic way they backed their team needs addressing. So let’s set the record straight.

Birmingham are having one of their best seasons ever, which wouldn’t be difficult as their honours list is derisory and probably one of the worst in the top few tiers of English football. Conversely, Derby have had a shocking season so far yet still average 5,000 more home fans than the Blues. “Your grounds too big for you” – you’ve got to be joking.

Birmingham are a horrible club with horrible fans who play at a horrible ground and you can form your own opinion about their Hong Kong-based ownership. In fact they’re probably the footballing equivalent of a Matsui stereo – looks OK, works OK but you just never get away from the feeling it is really poor quality.

Although there were plenty of Bluenoses present yesterday, their support was shocking. Loads of noise early on but not one solitary chant in the 18 minutes between our goal and their equaliser and then obviously loads of gloating thereafter. Awful fans.

Having said all that, the Blues have had a great season based on a static team and Alex McLeish’s unswerving loyalty to his 1-0 France away game plan. Rumours that he’s had the white board from the Stade de France dressing room tattooed on his back are unconfirmed. Let’s see how good they are when he gets some injuries and/or tries to sign some better players.

I think my 8-year-old son summed it up best in the car on the way home – “Dad, I hate Birmingham now”. So do I, son. OK, that’s the sour grapes over with. Back to the Rams.

As a general comment, Derby are playing really well at the moment and look a very strong Championship side. It seems with a combination of focus, belief, key players getting match fit (as opposed to just being on the pitch) and superb gaming of the loan market, Nigel has finally turned the corner. Whilst the future might not quite be bright, there is definitely a warm glow building.

Footballs all about putting the ball in the net more times then the opposistion and if you do that then you will win games, just like we did last season.

Although he slagged us off i enjoyed reading it because you could see how pi**ed off he was! :LMAO:

Comments/Articles like that just prove the incredibly sensitive nature of the author. Opposing football fans take the p*ss out of each other at matches, that's what makes it fun. In fact, it's comments like 'horrible fans' or 'horrible club' in the cold light of day that then cause the actual friction that leads to animosity and, subsequently, more sinister behaviour.

It's understandable and expected that his lad might say what he did, but it looks like daddy needs to grow a pair.

With very few exceptions any team that rolls up to Birmingham or indeed when we roll into their town for some reason expects to beat us and feels hard done by when they don't. I put that down in part to being an unfashionable club that has often been at the wrong end of the media happy stick.

If this guy wants to talk about chants being factually incorrect than he look no further than the derision that the away support took by being called Yam Yams. The chant after the goals was a sarcastic response. Although it feels a bit petty getting involved in this type of discussion, we did chant, sing but we mostly hummed 'food for thought' at least the section to the left of the goal were.

I shudder to think what a conversation with the Derby fan that posted that load of rubbish would be. I'm guessing he'd be on the babycham!

EDIT : This article was from the Times! you've got to be kidding me.

Aww, someone give him a cuddle!

At the end of the day, their support was non existant... only the group of fans either side of us sang anything, and their ground was full of empty seats.

And I dont remember any chanting from them once Scott Dann had scored, apart from a stupidly misinformed "Yam Yam, Yam Yam" chant.

Shame on them, never liked Derby.

Alex Mcliesh's 1-0 france game plan?

The only game plan I saw was Derby holding out for a 1-0. It was AM's tactical substitutions and Derby tiring which changed the game in our favour.

Where is this from?

No, I think he's comparing us to the Scotland team who beat France 1-0 at Parc Des Princes.

The website that he runs shows that he has a dislike for us before the game. I fully appreciate intelligent comment and all walks of life having an interest in the game regardless of colour, creed, gender or race but I do dislike when sneering.

In all honesty, you can't argue with him on that one.

Yeah, we cant.

But we dont bang on about honours list like every other club seems to do, even though all of their 'achievements' have been years ago.

Derby's 'honours' list will be derisory for the next however many years, whilst we will hopefully have an improved one by the time we next meet in a game, then see what they say

Better a glorious future than a glorious past ...
