Reports suggesting that Sullivan is thinking of signing Benitez at the end of the season, tells only one half of the story.

It could be that Sullivan's idea is to sign Benitez and let Carlton Cole leave for Blues. He would have to pay around £7m for Benitez, but could let Cole go for £14m and be £7m in pocket.

It would keep the Spammers fans happy by signing Benitez first, and the letting Cole go once the Benitez deal has been sealed.

It is unlikely that Sullivan would go public on the whole plan, but his business brain could be working overtime to to get an extra £7m into his coffers, whilst still signing an outstanding forward!

I guess we would just have to give in to his superior knowledge and business acumen, and not sign Benitez at end of season, and we'll just have to put up with the inferior player in Carlton Cole :D

I guess Zola would be in agreement with the above ;)

Oh well, I suppose we've just got to get used to the idea Carlton Cole instead of Benitez next season. Sullivan has done us again! :D

Carlton Cole and Roman Pavlychenko as the front two mmmmmmmmmm........ we'll just have to make do with that I suppose :ball:

An interesting idea, but nothing more than fantasy and speculation. Carlton Cole's been very impressive this season though, I'll give you that. But how many seasons has it taken him to reach that level, and how many has Chucho had? I'd be inclined to keep Chucho if at all possible.

Don't think Chucho would want to play in the Fizzy pop league! ;)

Would rather us keep Chucho tbh. Cole is more like Jerome.

His interest in Benitez is most probably more about helping out an agent pal to try and turn the screw on us...

there's no way on this earth that we would pay 14million for Carlton Cole, the report is laughable

Really! Do you think Cole is no better than Jerome?

From what I've seen, Cole seems a quality forward that can finish. He was the main man against Blues imo.

No, I didn't mean that Jerome was better or even as good as Cole but that they both play the same sort of football.

Cole is just an improved version of Jerome.

At the moment he is a better player yeah, but he's took years and years of mediocre seasons with Vile, Charlton and Wolves, aswell as a couple at West Ham before becoming the player he is now.

He isnt a £14m player at all IMO... id only pay that sort of money for established international strikers, and Cole certainly isnt one of those.

Cole said yesterday that HE turned down 2 offers to move in the January window.

Seems that Sullivan could have been trying to sell him on the quiet?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...Ham-United.html

£18m bids from Spurs and Liverpool? Could explain some of the problems we were having when trying to sign Pavlyuchenko from Spurs and Babel from Liverpool, if they were trying to get Cole before releasing their own players?

I notice that Redknapp is allegedly stopping Pavlyuchenko (for £10.5m after we offered £12m?) joining either of the interested Russian teams, despite, in theory, the Spurs Board agreeing to sell! Guess Redknapp is going for the (Redk)nap(p) hand in clubs, which for some (unknown?) reason go bankrupt after he has left! Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton, Portsmouth so far, and next in line to be bankrupt in a few years - guess which club???? Surely that 'coincidence' must deserve being in the Guinness Book of Records!

Isn't it amazing how 'coincidences' occur!

I thought there was already a signed agreement, that Blues would pay an extra £7m (on top of the loan fee already paid) if they decided to keep him.

Doesn't seem as though we have a choice about the fee if we have already signed and agreed to pay £7m if he stays. Perhaps that's what Sullivan is playing at - thinking Blues wont pay that much and then he can sign him for less or even the £7m.

Personally I think Cole would be a fantastic signing, but I also think that, given time, Chucho will improve. We must remember though, that Chucho has never been an out and out scorer, and was known as needing a lot of chances to take just one. You would hope the coaches could improve him on that. Although the coaches still seem to be struggling to get improvement in Jerome's finishing :(

Imagine where we could be this season if we had someone like Fors up front - WOW it blows the mind :ball:

MACHIAVELIAN !

Only a person on Sullivan and Brady's wavelength could come up with such a convoluted plan. Or Baldrick.

Sullivan can just sell Cole and keep his £14million.

He can introduce the pleasures of the loan signing to Gianfranco and save more.

Cole will have better exposure and offers from the Manchester pair or even Chelsea, seeing the age of the forwards, than blues may be able to offer.

I went fishing with a mate last year - well watching him fish - and it got so boring we invented a transfer series of absurd signings. I think it ended up that blues got Messi and Chelsea got Jerome, via Utd, Barca,Inter,Hartlepool and Peterborough (they were supposed to have money then).

This reminds me of that.

I thinck cole for chucho would be great buisness for both teams we need a target man who can finish and west ham are trying to cut wage's and chucho's wage's would most likely be less than coles and gols and sully would make money on the transfer to help them get out of dept so who knows this may happen

You know...the one where you pay £4 up front, keep it for the season and if you still like it then you pay the additional £10.99 to keep it permanently. :ph43r:

I wasn't saying that I would take Jerome over Cole, but that I would take Chucho for 7M rather than Cole for 14M.
