induct John Fran into the Birmingham City Legends Lounge

A brief bit of history. Born in Yardley Birmingham he joined bcfc from school. He made his debut in '86 and signed pro the same year aged 17.

Frain was a versatile left sided player starting off at left back before moving into a left midfield/wing position and then back into defense.

Frain was the clubs freekick and penalty taker intermitently throughout his 11 years with the club and was part of the team which won the leyland daf cup and 3rd division promotion the following year.

To summarise, he is a brummie and bluenose born and bred, always played with his heart on his sleeve and fire in his belly. A consumate profesional

And a true gentleman! After he left us he had a few good years at Northampton but I would guess never earned more than a grand a week from footy!
Surely though he was Acocks Green not Yardley! Big difference to those of us born in the epicentre of Blues loyal support!!

I think due to Heartlands hospital coming under Yardley he is classed as being born in Yardley. Unless he was born outside of a hospital as i dont think there are any maternity wards in A.Green.
Just a guess??
