I’ve been on here since the first day of the forum, member No. 18.

…. Hello, how are you today.

We come on here and debate to death every single time Tom, Dick and Harry tie their boot laces down the Blues.

Remember the day we just looked forward to Saturday, jumping on 2 buses, getting pushed around for 30 minutes in a wave of people just trying to get to the turnstiles, standing against a cold iron pole, bit of banter, bit of singing and some joys and sorrows.
I just used to share a few views with my mates on the game, on the bus home… …. will Langan play with his socks UP one game…. what a curl on that Worthington goal past Shilton, Yeah I know what about that….. thought Barry was gunna have another heart attack running down the touchline like that, silly bu**er…..will the Sports Argus be in town by the time we get there, hope so ….. hi mom, what’s for tea… fish fingers, chips and beans. Great

Don’t remember asking, who was the ref? …… Is Archie Gemmill good enough because he is Scottish?….. How many chances did Howard Gayle take …. How much is Steve Whitton on, ….. What is Kevin Dillon’s pass success ratio…… Wonder what the gate was …… and we certainly didn’t wonder how many minutes we would get on Star Soccer and how much the presenters would be kissing our blue a*** s.

I have just watched the McGeady You tube video, link posted in the HUGE McGeady thread. There is a kid keepy-uppying on the road and back yard and then some skills on the football pitch…. Its an absolute joy to watch. But it is lost in the debating of this player (and other things) who we have not seen play live or in a blues shirt. We don’t know if he is ever going to play for us.

What happened? Have we lost sight of why we love football.

Just watch the video and enjoy… I love it and it reminds me of being a kid ….when all that mattered was kicking a ball around and being able to go to the game.

And that’s all.

Nice post Sir,but you forgot:
Will Ken Wheldon build a Kwik Save on St Andrews.
Will Burnsie be in the Fitter tonight.
How the f*** do you get a train to Halifax.
Fulham at Maine road, We'll P*** it.
Bet Jimmy Hill does'nt give us a mention on MOTD.
Sitting in Aston park all night hoping to get semi final tickets.
Getting sent to Leicester tigers when we asked where the ground was.
200 a side footie on Blackpool beach before being chased off by the Old Bill.
Getting hammered in Preston supporters club and missing the last train.

Yes, happy days. Would'nt have missed them for the world. :boohoo:

However the other side of the coin would be

How great to debate all things blue with bluenoses you would otherwise of not met, I too havent been on here much over the last couple of years and at member 488 I am not much further behind you, but I have read many a topic on here that has made me laugh out loud, has caused a tear or two to well up or has even made me angry briefly

I also look forward to reading posts from other members, unfortunately some of whom no longer come here or not so often anymore like Dr. Nick, Proccy, St George etc etc, others such as Penguinblue, The Blue Bear, Blooboy, Bluenosemo, TJdixi, Blacksmith and Partisanbcfc who's opinion and comments whilst I may not always agree with I always respect.

Whilst the innocence of football may well have been truly been put to rest, and although theres alot of it to be missed, I am happier with the amount of knowledge at my fingertips now.

....and the un-furling of the "Blue Revolution" banners 10 minutes before the end of the game.

I remember being there as a kid, think it was against Arsenal? Everyone was supposed to walk out the ground as a protest against the board, but I only recall a few walking out.

What year was this?
Who was the chairman at the time?

That's the information age that we're in. Match Of The Day used to do 2 matches with a couple of cameras, now you have every match, every angle and the media will provide so much information on everything that we're just saturated in footy. The next generation may well be different and our kids will pine for the days of Martin Tyler and Andy Gray.

the odd score flash on Grandstand. Although it was the teleprinter which gave us the results as they came in.
Midweek games - watching tv, having teletext on update.

The thrill of walking to the ground and seeing the big aerial behind the Main Stand which meant we were on MOTD. This didn't happen very often.

Turning the corning and walking up Emmeline Street towards the Kop, the crowd would looked packed from that angle and you would enter with excitement until you actually got into the Kop and there were spaces everywhere.

Watching the big clock actually move, hoping and preying for an equaliser as the big hand got nearer and nearer the 45 min mark for full time.

Watching Trevor Francis break my heart when he scored for Forest in the same season we sold him and then virtually relegate us.

Leaving the ground early as West Ham fans kept invading the pitch, walking down Emmeline St with my Dad, mate and sister and then confronted by West Ham fans outside and having to run for our lives to get back in the Kop before we were lynched.

Mum crying at home waiting for us to get back from the Leeds riot, after she watched fans burn to death at the Bradford fire disaster. Dad said he would never go down the Blues ever again. I didn't go again until I started to earn money myself.

Memories.

I'm glad I experienced football supporting in its purest form but I'm even gladder I can now take my 8 year old son down the Blues in safety.

KRO.

Great post ! **thumbup

Knees up mother Brown, and the burning of a Vile scarf in the middle of the Kop.
Rangers/Celtic
Tiswas/Swop Shop Chants,
Watching out for the "loony in the seats" a guy of about 60 who sat in the paddock and ran to the front and challenged every refereeing decision (Arsene Wengers mentor)
Buying a Programme !
Buying a cup of tea or bovril from a guy with a huge metal ern on his back.
Days when the Main stand was the "posh seats"
The half time scoreboard, trying to work out who A was, who were leading 2 - 0 - impossible if you didn't have a programme, but in those days everyone had !
Tying your scarf around your wrist
standing, as a kid, on the very useful wall in front of the barrier - it ran round the Kop and the Tilton
Every kid wore a green parka !
Getting to the ground about 3 hours too early so dad could "park up nice and close"
Going on a freezing Tueday night to a Texaco cup game and feeling it was really important we won !
Jim Smith (Newcastle player - not our former manager) breaking Tony Wants leg and everyone booing him.
Raising your Blue and White scarf when Blues scored.
Chanting "We are the Famous, the famous Brummies" and "Imitation Brummies" at the Vile fans.

Oh and most importantly, meeting up with all your mates on the spur of the moment and being able to stand and watch the game wherever you wanted - together !!

Ah, those were the days :break:

LOL, I remember this bloke so well, every game he would be up on his feet waving his arms around shouting at the ref. The Kop used to hiss themselves laughing at him.

Strange how things turn out, I now have a ST very near to where he used to sit!!!

Catching the football special buses from town.

Quick visit to the toilet on the corner near the old cinema, no ‘Made in Brum’ then!

A pint in the Greenaway

No pre match warm up on the pitch and the teams coming out separately, no one ever noticed the ref and linesman coming out.

Running on the pitch when we scored with no threat of being arrested.

Fish and chips in a proper English chip shop on Coventry Rd.

Moving round the ground depending on which way we was kicking.

Having your scarf nicked at away games and other items of clothes robbed at Liverpool.
