Ok, thinking back to the end of last season, the players brought in over the summer, the less than promising pre season results and pre season expectations...... I genuinely thought we'd be scrapping with the others down there in the bottom 5 or 6. The fact that we haven't, and aren't, is a testament to the spirit Mcleish has got flowing through this special football club of ours. He's brought in very good championship players who have stood up and been counted, players who people thought were over the hill, past their best, or failed previously at this level, and players who are untried at this level too. It's all worked out very well. Of course, we all have gripes, we all want this or that player to do something better or to improve, but from my point of view, if I have a go at a player, it's genuinely because I think he can do better. Michel aside, and I would say I think I've been a bit harsh on the lad to be honest. Please bear in mind, that when I post after a match it's the early hours of sunday morning for me, I've normally had 'a few' lol....and I type quicker than I think....In hindsight, I shouldn't do that, and I do hope Michel grows into what the rest of you can see. I've had plenty of disagreements with people on here, and I think that's purely down to the written word...which has no emotion and you cant see facial expressions etc...face to face over a beer in a pub, I'm sure I'd get on with 99% of people here. So, back to Blues. What a season. I'm so proud of them, all thats missing now is revenge against the 12 toes from across the way.... Here's looking forward to Blackburn away, Arsenal Home...the rest of the season, and what looks likely to be an entertaing transfer summer ahead... KRO my fellow noses The Blue Bear :drink: |

Agreed, I remember a West Brom mate claiming we would get "murdered" in the Premier League this season as his "footballing" side got relegated. So wrong. |

Pre-season did go a bit ropey but then again the team had never played together before. I remember the feeling when we went to Old Trafford first day of the season everyone thought we were going to get mudered. But we passed it and had some moments Jerome put a shot wider from 25 yardd but it showed intent. We then struggled wit the 4-5-1 with OConnor our only striker running himself into the ground and Benitez coming up to speed after injury. What ever it was the lads gelled and a team was create. I havent seen a better bunch of lads working for each other and the fans since the 70's and even then they relied a bit too much on Trevor. We are still behind the Villa but I cant remember being so proud of them I hope they can get a little run to gether and we can come 8th or 9th simply because it will honour them further. Absolutely great bunch of lads and the management must be given credit for this. :Blues: |

I respect your opion and understand you view point. This has been debated at length. It depends what you consider to be quality football and whether it is best to play to your strengths. I think every one agrees we havent had the sharpest attack but hopefully we will have a little more to invest in this area so the attacking side of the game will be more of a force next season. :Blues: |

But surely as with Brucie back in the early days we now need to kick on ,get some quality in and attack that top 6, I know for a fact thats what McLeish wants. |

'mission accomplished' ! . Just why the team and supporters have bothered even turning up lately has been a wonder. No need at all having been safe. Maybe the team were a bit confused in the QF and thought it was a league game too! What ambition some fans have on here! If any one dares to be dissapointed they get stick from the heros of virtue. Why dont THEY go and support another club, one thats not the second biggest city in the counrty, with presumed millions to invest in players etc. |

I don't think there's much doubt we'd have all taken this at the start of the season. However the bit that has disappointed me is that in January we had the opportunity to really go for it. A new chairman with £40m burning a hole in his pocket and a great base from which to push on. A striker, a winger and midfield playmaker could have pushed us on a bit. It might not have done too but to stand idly by and let the opportunity of a lifetime slip away was wrong imo. Now, the climate has changed. The money is no longer available and the players feel safe and secure in their jobs. There will be no big investment in the summer and were back to where we were. A successful season yes, but tinged with disappoinment for me. |
