Hi, I`m doing a paper at uni about the changing face of English football. How the social face has changed. And how the teams nationality make up has changed. I`m needing a bit of imput from the grass root fans. 1. Who is your favorite 2 players now ? 2. who is your favorite 2 all time players ? 3. What is your favorite moment in club football ? Who`s your favorite national player ? Thanks for any help. Gary |

1 - Right now....Barry Ferguson and Joe Hart 2 - All time Blues players....has to be Trevor Francis (The Messiah) and Kenny Burns 3 - Favourite moment watching Blues was clinching promotion away at Leyton Orient in May of 1972 ....the first season of the marvellous 'Penguin Era'......But any time beating the Villa is ultra special....and believe me, I have seen that happen quite a few times Don't have a favourite national player right now, I follow England of course and if I had to choose one it would likely be Wayne Rooney.......From England's past I'm torn between Kevin Keegan and Bobby Charlton.......Outside of England the greatest player the world has even seen was Pele of Brazil... IMHO......Very closely followed by Johann Cryuff of Holland and George Best (Man Utd and Northern Ireland) Hope that helps :banner: The game is a lot faster now but I honestly feel the 60's and 70's English football was much more attractive and of course comeptiton for the major prizes was spread amongst a lot more clubs.....it was a much more level playing field back then..........TV revenue and "win at all cost mentality" has choked the game over the last 20 years Atmosphere has gone......St Andrews a prime example......The hooliganism has gone for the most part but bringing back terraces at least in some sections of grounds would help ....I'm all for family days out and stuff in modern football but make it affordable In all honesty I would love to see the Champions League and Europa League completely scrapped and for UEFA to go back to a simple Champions Cup (for the Champions of each country only) , The Cup Winners Cup (for the Cup winners from each country) and the UEFA Cup (League Cup winners plus maybe 3 or 4 best placed clubs).....Knock out formulas only, seed some countries yes but only until the quarter finals Put more money into the FA Cup and into the Football League to help lesser clubs survive.....it is still a working man's game and a grass roots game......Professionally trained referees, video technology for PL and other 'High Profile' games and a better standard of refeering are badly needed as well ...There are too many inconsistencies and rule manipulations these days and most managers and players agree Red and yellow cards should be given for cynical challenges only (it's not really rocket science) , the last man back mandatory card should be abolished and the offside rule revamped to how it used to be and all this 'active player' nonsense scapped.....Goalkeepers should be protected against all this red card nonsense as well........In general 'one on one' scenarios they have to go for the ball but strikers falling over their arms get the keepers sent off too easily, the keepers are always the fall guys .......It is a TOTAL FARCE.....If a referee today cannot spot a cynical challenge or foul as opposed to a fair challenge or a genuine attempt by any player to play (or win) the ball then they should not be officiating in the first place -------------------------------- |

1. Joe Hart and Barry Ferguson 2. Trevor Francis and Kenny Burns 3. My favourite moment is the game Villa 1 Blues 2 in the 76/77 season. We were 1-0 down at HT and came back to win. The moment in this game is Kenny Burns' equaliser in front of the Holte End and his casual walk-up to them celebrating the goal. 4. Favourite national player - David Beckham. |
