If true good news imo

Quote:

Seb Larsson looks set to agree a new deal with Birmingham City, according to one of his agents.

The Sweden international is out of contract in the summer, but has expressed his desire to stay at St Andrews.

Birmingham are understood to have offered him fresh terms and a deal is close, according to one of his Swedish-based representatives.

"I would be very surprised if it is not sorted out within four weeks." agent Per Jonsson told Expressen.

"We know where we stand."

Not happy we have give him a new contract as in my opinion he is not good enough, maybe a one year contract ongoing as long as he performs would have been better.

He's good to keep in the squad but I would hope we'd get a much better replacement for his position in the summer.

Giving Seb a new contract suggests that we won't get a new right-winger in the summer!

Not really.

Delighted Seb is ready to sign - should settle himself back into playing good football!

Doesn't mean we're not going to get another right winger in.

Great news.

Fickle fans eh, everyone was raving over the guy a couple of years ago, yeah he didnt have that good a season in the Championship, but he bucked his ideas up and was a key player throughout our unbeaten run for us.

Hopefully he can now settle down again knowing he has a new contract and everything.

There is another good news item though

Now, if we want to sell him , we can demand a largish fee

Seb has been poor for a couple of seasons not a couple of months.
I had hoped we would have replaced him.
We have really suffered in wide areas for years we just dont have a winger at the club.
Sebs best attribute is his freekicks and delivery from a dead ball but in all honesty how many goals has he scored. yes he works hard and covers ground but has very little impact on a game at this level.
Seb was good when on loan from arsenal and the first season we signed him up. But since then seb has at best stood still and most probably got worse. Its a shame because i with many others wished for seb and faddy to stay when we got relegated but now i would not be dissapointed if they were replaced.

Agree,One of the most overated players ever to play for the blues,Apart from wanting to leave every 5 mins i think he now can see he is not playing well and apart from a few lower prem teams i feel he wants us to give him a deal fast,Same for Mac Fadden lets get players in who can score goals and win games by score goals i mean 20 plus a season not 2 a season like most of our players :banghead:

Seb is in my bad books at the moment, and has been for a couple of months, but overall it is great news to have him on board for longer, because overall he has put in alot of hard work over the last few seasons!

Now the coaching staff can work on getting the best out of him so we can see the same Seb who scored that corker at Spurs!

Depending on his wages, I'd say that this is a good deal. A decent in-contract winger would cost us £6 million at least.

Thing is with Seb and all our "wingers" is that not a lot of people recognise how narrow we play and none of them are playing as traditional wingers ala nani. valencia.

Seb has been asked not to play in the position he excelled in 2 yrs ago but in a much narrower midfield. He essentially plays right midfield not right wing and his work rate and stamina, and defensive duties are everybit as important in his performance but much harder to spot as his work as a winger was. The big disapointment has been his free kicks, but other than that he performs a very strict disciplined role. How often do we see carr exposed? Not very. Thats down to the protection seb offers.

It might not be flashy but his performances are a product of our disciplined rigid system. Its easier to see Dann/Johnson's contribution.

He hasn't hit the hights of 2 yrs ago but he plays a very important role.

Pretty good news, as long as we aim to get better quality in that is. Good quality squad player at this level imo. If we want to move onwards and upwards then more quality than seb is needed.

in a word, yes.

IMO he hasn't been playing as a right 'winger' but as a right sided midfielder.

It's what has worked for us, and during our unbeaten run a pivitol part in our solid defence by giving good strong cover for Carr.

I think if we were to replace him with an N'zogbia type player, we'd concede a lot more goals... But then possibly create more too, a double edged sword...
