Muhammad Ali ....AKA Cassius Clay has died at 74 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease

Think it's fair to say the greatest boxer that ever lived .... certainly since the 1960's anyway ....in fact you could claim the Greatest Sports Personality ever.....he actually received an award along those lines back in 1999

Back in the days when Boxing was worth watching (a long, long time ago) Muhammad Ali gave us so much entertainment, comedy and jovial lines, he certainly elevated the sport into the world spotlight whenever he was slugging it out for those world heavyweight titles with the likes of Liston, Frazier, Foreman and Norton .....although a special mention to popular British boxer Henry Cooper who did manage to floor Ali back in 1963 with a stunning left hook.....but "Enry" was defeated by the then Clay in the next round

One of his classic , famous quotes....."I float like a butterfly and sting like a bee"

He was rigourously opposed to the Vietnam War and in fact was sentenced to 5 years in prison for draft dodging which was later quashed through appeal and also had his title taken away and was banned from the ring for 4 years .....But he firmly stuck to his principles, played an active role in the Civil Rights movement and was adored by millions around the globe for his seemingly arrogant charm .....he has even been dubbed 'The Shakespeare of Boxing' in today's media paying tribute to him

Pictured at SA during a visit to Birmingham during the late 70's .....Ali had an affinity with Britain and the British people, it was always a country he enjoyed visiting but he was immensely popular all over the world , the famous 'Rumble In The Jungle' with George Foreman in which was then Zaire spawned at least two films......Ali won the fight by literally exhausting his fierce opponent Foreman (who was also the hot favourite to win) with his uniquely famous agility and speed of movement and the ability to absorb punishment and then won the fight with a trademark jab from nowhere

Sports Illustrated voted him the most recognisable person on the earth over 20 years ago.
He truly was a great boxer, but like most fighters he went on too long.

RIP Muhammad Ali.

I loved the guy and good watch his boxing vids over and over, was at his best pre loss of his crown in 68? when the boxing board of control stripped his crown!
There will never be another like him, made black people feel good about themselves after all those years of persecution, another reason why 1960`s was such a significant decade!

RIP Muhammad.
