Saw them at the NEC around the late 80's. Got up at 6am on a sunday and queued for 4 hours in the rain to get the tickets.

I love the way they do new live arrangements of old songs and make them so much better ... East at Easter, Big Sleep, Book of Brilliant Things, Celebrate and New Gold Dream .... fabulous.

I still have a Betamax recording of them live, shown on 'The Tube' in the 80's. If only I had a betamax video player!

There's plenty of good live stuff on you tube...for example

Simple Minds Dortmund 1984

Explore and Enjoy!

i have to say about 20 years ago i went to milton keynes bowl to see them, omd the stranglers and an emotional fish were supporting them

omd were very good
stranglers were brill
an emotional fish ok
simple minds were dissapointing tbh and have the dubious honour of being the biggest let down i've seen live, perhaps they just had an off day

I was at that gig.......thought OMD were excellent.

Strange though, I also thought the Minds were excellent, but there you go! We can watch the same Blues game and see different things too!

That gig was LIVE on radio 1 as well if memory serves.

great set list there Bear... i bet you had a fantastic night.

one of the best concerts i went to was a Simple Minds one... i'd seen them at the SECC in Glasgow on their Street Fighting Tour and we're really good. my gf at the time fainted and i got in trouble for leaving her with the medics whilst i watched the show!

anyway, not long after they announced some extra shows in Brum at the NEC. i got tickets and we went again... there was a part in the show when they sung Biko, which was/is a Peter Gabriel song.

they intro'd the song as 'we'd like to dedicated this song...' but on this night Jim Kerr just said 'i'd like to introduce you to...' it was as if it was scripted because i couldn't hear what he said next as the audience just went wild.

out walks Gabriel, calm and un-flustered as you like and the roof literally lifted off the NEC as they did Biko together. great moment.

Of that setlist at the top there, I recognise 13 of those tunes, so I reckon I'd still have a good night out at Simple Minds. I used to love them and Big Country when I was about 11.

LOL....I don't see what you did wrong with your ex gf? You left her in very capable hands!

Peter Gabriel was/is one of Jim Kerrs heroes, so for him to play alongside him would have been awesome I'm sure! I saw them on that same tour in Cardiff, but no guest appearance!

I've chatted to so many people who hadn't seen them inyears and then gone along to a gig and had the best time...

I've been lucky enough to see them several times since my move to Oz in 03...and The Who, that was brillant.

Off to see Stereophonics next month in Brisbane.

LOL...I always thought you was Grant Donohoe (I think that was his surname) from the old Blues forum back in the day. I always thought he used the penguin username...never mind! LOL
