BEIJING, March 31 (Reuters) - Birmingham City, owned by Hong Kong tycoon Carson Yeung, will play a friendly in the former British colony in July as part of an Asian pre-season tour, the South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday.

The Premier League side will meet the Hong Kong international team on July 16 and also play in Nanjing, Beijing and another city yet to be named, according to the report.

"We are happy to arrange the match as part of the Hong Kong team's build-up for the Asian Games in Guangzhou and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers," Brian Leung Hung-tak, chairman of the Hong Kong Football Association, told the paper.

Asia is becoming a highly popular destination for pre-season tours by European clubs and Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also negotiating lucrative trips to the continent after the World Cup finals
