On the occassions when I manage to get up to home games, I like the Gil Merrick stand. I've seen some people on here say things like "toffs" and "snobs" about the good folk in that stand. It takes all sorts...

Who said that about the GM? definitely not like that in the lower tier don't know about the upper though, I thought most of the snobs and toffs sat in club class and the top of the Kop anyway. ;)

I think you see more Burberry in the Tilton than anywhere else.

I thought you are an away fan if you sit in the Gil Merrick.

Seriously, snobs and BCFC is a bit of an oxymoron. Although the social make-up of fans at many Premiership clubs has changed with more affluent professional people attending,it is not as evident at Blues. Obviously this is an observation of mine comparing my experiences of attending games at Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Fulham, Man U, Man C, Wigan and Bolton. I haven't been able to get to Villa games but I am told their "mix" differs to ours - but I can't comment on that and I can't understand why, if it is true.

As for areas of the ground I find the knowledge of football is better in the Olympic Gallery and the Main Stand - probably because everyone there sit back and take in the game.

That's Mike Whitby, leader of Birmingham City council.

Interesting to see him still about. :ball:

Snob:
a person who imitates, cultivates, or slavishly admires social superiors and is condescending or overbearing to others

I have sat in club class and those who I met were not snobs they were just avid supporters who wanted the best view they could get. I thought they appeared as proud as I felt when the Tilton would start up with a good rendition of KRO.

They probably get a bit fedup if people use bad language and get too vocal and rowdy. I'm not sure if they are looking down on this but more that they are the type of supporters who want to watch the game but not let their emotions run high as what some do in the Tilton. Sort of horses for courses really. If you want to give it large belt out the songs and give it some verbal the the Tilton is the place when you can do this without pishing those around you off.

Tilton - whingers

Main stand - families and day trippers

GM - poor people who pay on the day looking for the cheapest available ticket

Kop - snobs

Snobby prawn eating gits!!

In my day we couldn't afford to pay to go in the Railway end to eat prawn sandwiches. They used to open the gates early for those trafffic beating early leavers and we used to run in and watch the end of the game free. Sometimes we found a piece of grizzle from a half eaten pie to suck on. Those were the days. No snobs then!!!:banner:

It was just something that I noticed from a couple of other threads. I didn't realise that people would get so self-conscious about it. The mods can delete it if they like.
