I have just been notified of an attempt to reduce the cost of petrol, which is at an all time high. But this action needs to be supported by the general public. The idea is for everyone buying petrol to boycott the two largest supplyers, ie, BP and Esso. If these companies were not selling much fuel in this country, they would have to drop their prices, which would in turn force other oil firms to do the same. If everyone who reads this post gets in touch with ten people they know, and those other folks each let another ten folks in on the plan, this way it would snowball on until a very substancial number of motorists were giving the petrol giants a v sign. It is no good expecting this diabolical government to take action. This protest is being carried out in other parts of the country, so please ask everyone you know to boycott these two companies. It is no good moaning about the price , do something about it. :applause: |

yeah i received that email telling me to boycot esso and shell and to get my petrol from sainsburys, asda or morrisons instead, its a waste of time cause esso and shell own the refinery that supplies sainsburys, asda and morrisons. sainsburys etc do not own any oil wells or refineries so all you are hitting is the one garage you normally use your not hitting the giants in any way. the only way is to blockade the m25 and bring the capital to a standstill just like they do in france. |

Don't forget the price of crude is set. It's not subject to the powers of the economy. Guess who it's set by? Yes the oil companys. Just think what would happen if Asda, Tesco etc got together and fixed prices! Or if car companys did it? And yet the oil companys can. Also, the oil companys restrict the production of oil, why do they do that? To keep the price high, the less there is the more it costs. |

Sounds good in theory but wouldn't it cause a backlog of traffic queuing at Asda Morrisons etc? I agree something needs to be done but what would be the best course of action I don't know. |

I'd like to see those people who blockaded the refineries have another go at that. The Army drew up plans for dealing with that if it happened again. Having said that, I've just parted with £50 this morning to fill the car up. There's a good incentive to walk to work more. |

But it isn't the Oil companies that are ripping us off. Fair enough they are making millions, but we buy at the cheapest price in Europe, it is what is added on by our Governement that puts the extra 80+ pence on a litre! |

Raters As the Govt takes 78% tax I would say it's the Govt setting the prices. The portion which is the Crude price is relatively speaking negligable. |

Posted Image Gas prices $3.00 per gallon (premium brand) here in Florida, USA $3.50 in New York I think Still cheaper than the UK The conversion to litres was a scam as well....just another way to raise the price Still use gallons (quarts and pints too) here ....I love it **thumbup |

A good point, but I'd suggest you take a look at the cost of petrol on the continent. Not that much different. BTW I am absolutely correct in saying OPEC set the price of crude. The government do not set the price, only tax it. (Well when I say only….) |

And, is your journey really necessary ? People need to start walking again, instead of driving half a mile to the chipshop or takeaway, why don't they walk? Schoolruns with one child as a passenger are really silly. A little bit of thought and a bit of exercise would save the tax that many complain about. |

I wish I could walk further. I have a walking stick, as I can't get more than about 100 yards without stopping. I have permanent Sciatica in my right leg, caused through a chipped bone on one of my vertebrae. I have no doubt caused in my old Para days, but can't prove it. One other point, I've just bought a Mondeo Diesel,(second hand) and doing 50.5 urban miles to the gallon. My previous car a Saab 93, same size engine did 30 miles urban. Diesel and petrol are as near as no matter the same price, and the difference almost pays my loan. |

I wasn't talking about people who need transport as you do Trev, although if you were living in a supportive community you would have shopping buses and community transport - even buses that loaded scooters ! Which would take you off the road completely and not suffer a loss of mobility and activity. I was talking about the 20-40 year olds that screech to a halt outside our local kebabs and chip shops. Spend half a gallon reversing and backing in and going forward and so on so they don't have to walk the extra ten feet to the shop doorway. Then they roar off trying to be Jeremy Clarkson wasting more fuel. Then they complain about the cost of fuel. |

Nice idea Baron but the majority of petitions don't get you anywhere. Do you really think this Government would listen to the likes of us peasants anyway. They have got us by the short & curlys mate and we can do nothing about it. Except vote them out of course then you'll have a another Government that won't change a damn thing. |

Morgan. I didn't take offence or anything like it mate. I was just being a bit sorry for myself. I get really frustrated with myself for not being able to do what I used to be able to do. Please understand. This is not moaning or complaining. It's just Bl**dy frustration. Treetop. Thanks for the ring and ride offer, but I forgot to mention, I've now moved to Dorridge, and I don't think you get over there, especially on match days. I only need a lift to St Andrews. I get to the ground on the Redditch supporters coach, which drops me off by the bus garage. Cheers both. |

With you on the school runs, should have to prove that you need to drive to school, the amount of parents I see driving 50 yards to take their kids defies beleive. I used to have to walk at least a mile to school and other kids had much further to go |

Treetop. You can hardly call me posh. Born in Ladywood. After being bombed out moved to TollEnd, Tipton, and then to a council house in Yardley Wood. I'm still a council house kid at heart. I can't help it if I live near Big Eck. :silence: |

Going off topic for one second... Trev without getting too personal do you do or has your gp recomended or given you any specific exercises or do you have physio? I looked at siatica not long ago and various exercises for different types and people etc and there is a lot out there. I would imagine a gp would refer you for these as a matter of course or refer you to a physio (just thinking about maybe it helping to make it a little less painful.easier for you) **thumbup |
