Its all down to the new man in charge now.... Steven Moffat.

Respect to Russell T Davies for bringing it back and making it cool again but Moffat has more depths in his writing, namely emotion. Davies lacked emotional moments and got a bit dull at times. Moffat has got the lot, funny, quirky and emotional. I thought the humour between the doctor and the new girl was great. And a refreshing change to not be in London or Blinking Cardiff

I watched it and had to dig out 'the girl in the fireplace' episode again, moffat's greatest so far.

Seeing the trailor for the rest of the season afterwards..... its looking good **thumbup

Got to say I have been a fan of Doctor Who for many years and thought they made an excellent effort with the show when it made a return to our screens.

Total agree that this new chapter in the shows history looks to going to be the best chapter so far

Davies went for a multi-cultural and inclusive Dr Who.

Last night the total lack of one black actor was a shock.

The BBC had trouble selling Dr Who to networks in the USA and ended up selling to regional stations on a station by station basis, mainly it was aleged because of the black-white inter-racial couples so heavilly featured.
Plus Davies' often tongue in cheek acceptance of gay characters.

Many networks faught shy of buying the series in the US because of advertising fears they claimed.

Last night it took me a while to realise the basic difference. Not one black, brown, yellow or green face.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Roll on the other Tardis rooms that we are promised.

Jury out on Moffat at the moment. I saw Dr Who Confidential and the guy seems so much up himself.....

Wasn't Nina Wadia in last night's episode, as the doctor (not that one!)?

Yes, but for 10 seconds.
Not a character involved in narrative or development which was my point.

If Billy Piper comes back for a cameo, will she have a white Ricky/Mickey as a boyfriend? Will we have black/brown/green faces as part of UNIT with some lines relevant to the story?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not counting non-white actors, it was just something that hit me when considering how Moffat was different to Davies.

Russell was witty and very like Assimov in his subtle blending of myth and monster. Moffat did brilliant with the statues, but no other storyline of his compares imo.

No, it was just the most glaring thing I noticed and when I thought about why, and if it was intentional I remembered the problems the beeb had selling to a US network.

Just my opinion migster. As I said I hope I'm wrong and we have a more usual and inclusive series and not a tailored-for-US-bigots series.

And will Barrowman return and be allowed any double d'entendres.
