Does anyone have a FREESAT HD Box, was just wondering if they were any good.

I have sky at the moment but not hd, in fact I only have the freeview channels coming in on it after deciding that the 50 quid a month would better being spent on paying off the credit card - however what I dont like is having to trawl through all the blocked channels to get to a freeview one, so I thought I might aswell give Freeview HD a go and just wanted to know what others thought of it and if they had a HD box they could recommend

Will also mean I can watch the World Cup in HD aswell :D

Freeview also do HD now.

Probably better than Freesat tbh unless you're in a poor signal area (ie village).

Freesat is rubbish you only get about two maybe three channels in HD , better off getting sky HD , more HD channels than you can shake a big stick at.

Sure it costs but it's worth it if you like films and sports.

The channels may well state HD, but alas alot of what's transmitted is actually not HD.
Bit of a con tbh
And don't forget, none on any service is true full HD

I've got one, and tbf I wouldn't really say there worth the money.

The only channels I seem to get in HD are ITV and BBC and although that's good for the occasional football matches, in general it isnt much use.

Canvas.

Quote:

Content

Connected TVs will enable a wide range of content to find its way to the TV set.

The canvas venture will not own, aggregate or control content.

The availability of content will be dependent on third parties making applications available to the platform.

Linear TV

"Canvas compliant" devices will provide an upgrade for the UK's existing free-to-air platforms (Freeview & Freesat), and will be able to receive free-to-air High Definition (HD) linear programming.

Video on demand

The devices will also integrate video on demand services (e.g. iPlayer, ITV Player, 40D) as well.

Using catch-up and archive services, consumers will be able to browse back and forth in time to get all available progammes on demand.
Other online content services

While the canvas venture will not own, aggregate or control content, internet-based video services (such as Lovefilm, Hulu, Blinkboxx) can build applications for the platform, as could any content owner or service provider (e.g. flickr, twitter, amazon.com, NHS Direct).

Of course there is that but it is the best and there's on denighing that.

I think sky should lower there prices but sorry to say it would be a cold day in hell for that to happen.

I would strongly challenge that they are the best. I think they, Sky that is, are dreadful. On the following issues:
1. They massively overcharge for the service level they provide.
2. They play to the wealthy and ignore the less well off.
3. Their service is slow and does not match the marketing they spend so much of their customers money delivering every day of the week. keep telling 'em it's gerat and enough of them will believe it. Smoke and mirrors for me.
4. Their customer service is absolutely appalling. Again they spend their ppound on marketing and ignore their customer bases problems.
and finally and probably the root cause of it all
5. They run a monopolistic organisation. Ofcom have just got to grips with a little bit of that monster, and have handed the issue to the monopolies commission. Let's hope they deal with the problem properly.

Sky is OK for those with money to spare, fine for those who can afford all of the channels, but for anyone else, for the most vulnerable and cash strapped they have to put up with a reduced service. ( I made this point some while ago that this last group include the people who fought for the rights that we all have in this country, and for our freedoms, and they when they are at their weakest, at their most vulnerable, when they probably cannot do much other than sit and watch the box, which can be a great comfort to them, are stopped from being able to see some of the best items available mostly because of the cost, but also their lack of ability to deal with the technology. poor thanks we give them for risking their lives for ours.)

Add to that lot that it really is about time that off the shelf broadcasts of all programmes were either:
1. Free to air
or
2. Pay per item.

So that no matter who you sign up with, you have access to all programmes. It is a fundamental insult to us all that you only get certain things if you choose to sign up with certain providers. But then that is part of the monopolies issue again.

It is time people in general demanded what is technologically available at a fair price and stopped putting up with second best, a second best that suits the purses of Rupert Murdoch and his mates, or any other set of megalomaniacs.
