As a big fan of the original 60s TV show The Prisoner, I wonder has anyone seen the new series which has been on for a couple of weeks (I haven't seen it myself). Apparently it's quite a short series, only six episodes (rather appropriate!) Oddly enough, even though there's still three or four episodes to be shown yet, it seems it's available to buy on DVD from next week!

I watched the first 3 episodes and couple of months ago. As a massive fan of The Prisoner and a fairly regular visitor to Portmeirion, I was sceptical to say the least about a remake.
I thought it was very poor. The only reason I sat though 3 episodes was to try to give it chance as I'd already accepted that it was going to be dire and like the remake of The Wicker Man, it was verging on blasphemy. There was a glimmer of hope when I first heard that Ian McKellen was to play 2, but even he couldn't save this incoherent, narcoleptic mess.
I'd be interested to hear what a fellow fan of the original thought of it, so if you can bear to watch it, let us know Bart.

This remake is totally differerent to the original series, I think they are just cashing in on the "prisoner" name similar to the americanised dire remake of the italian job. Any original prisoner fans out there that are considering watching this I would say"don't bother" two episodes were enough for me.

Ah, it must've been shown elsewhere if you saw it a couple of months ago, HC. I think it's currently on ITV on saturday evenings. I had hoped Ian McKellen would add a bit of quality, but based on what's been said here, things don't seem promising.

Be seeing you......

I have since bought and watched the DVD, my advice to anyone is, don't bother with this. Utterly charmless and pointless. Stick with the original.

It was about as good as the remake of The Wicker Man

I bought the real Prisoner on blu ray recently. It looks so good and I enjoyed it more now than back in the middle ages when I first saw it.

I have the original on DVD. A strange little series, but compulsive viewing.
