And rejected according to Tatts.

If we do eventually buy him where does this leave Ridgewell?

I'm sure I read he has a year left... Although I did also read he's out of contract...

Won't take long to push this one through though, he's still at the training ground from a couple of years ago...

I thought he had 12 months left. Hence the reason we have made a bid to fulham for the player. If he was on a free surley fulham wouldn't be involved... (I dunno tho.. Maybe your right?)

Yeah, it was widely reported for most of the season that Konchesky was in the last year of his contract, therefore we'd be approaching him on a bosman. However, it appears that, like other Fulham players, he only has a year left on his current deal so they'll be looking to cash in now at a cut-price fee rather than letting him leave on a bosman in 12 months.

Any links to this story of the £1.5m bid?

First replacement for centre half and left back, which I think will still see him play 25+ games for us when you take in to account injuries, suspensions and cup games.

Why is it that all of a sudden our transfer business is being conducted in the media spotlight? IMHO i would prefer to hear of transfers once they are over the line. It gives our rivals the impression that we are money bags and i can hear the excuses already... teams held us to ransom blah, blah, blah, (echos of jan)

If we are to believe the press we have so far bid £6m for foster, £8m for Zamora, £8m rising to £10m for carlton cole, £8m for Nzogbia, £1.5 for konchesky.

I know its a bit pessimistic but i just wish we could get the transfers agreed then give the media the details rather than the other way round. for one it gets frustrating to keep hearing of rejected bids and 2 it heightens expectation of fans, and when it all goes pear shaped i.e January it makes it all the more dissapointing.

Just hoping that bids have actually been made and this is not a bid to increase season ticket sales!!!

What makes you think that it's Blues releasing this information.

It's more likely the other Clubs or agents are putting this information in the media. That is certainly the case with N'Zogbia whose agent has been spouting off in the press. David Whelan has also said the bid is derisory.

It will be other clubs who announce an offer has been rejected - Sullivan publicly rejected Blues bid for Cole and announced that bids from other clubs had also been rejected.

Did we know about the young spanish player we signed yesterday - no.

There is no way that Blues want these bids in the press but these days it's almost impossible to stop. It happens to every club.

Thought he was terrible in the europa final. And dont think he would go down to well with our lot, as seems a bit conceited!
Also why a left back with Murphy back for next year and Ridge, Parnaby and hopefully N,zog.

Because Parnaby is a right back, N'Zogbia is a winger, Ridgewell is a centre back, and Murphy is a physios nightmare.

I appreciate they all could play left back, but for a couple of million why not buy a proven Premier League left back?

I personally really rate him.

i cant see Ridge being a back up player next year though, I think he was one of our best players this year , and he chips in with important goals.

Could Dann be the cover player?

Really? I kept an eye on him and he looked a very tidy player, got forward well when he could, and defended solidly against the likes of Ujfalusi, Simao, Jurado etc.

He was at fault for the first goal, got caught in possession too far up the pitch.

I know what your saying, I was grimacing at some of his distribution, but as the commentator pointed out, Reyes was one of Athletico's main threats and Konchesky kept him so quiet he was subbed.

Now when you look at it that way, you might have a rethink on his effectiveness in that match! ;)

Agreed.

He is a journalist, and would be better placed than thee or me to know a bid was rejected - don't need no crystal ball for that. That was all grumpy was saying.

Personally, I'm not a massive fan of Konchesky. I'd welcome him to Blues in a cut price deal if we can't get anyone better, but I don't think he's the right man.

He has undoubted experience, but worryingly still retains that youthful hot headedness which became a symbol of his Charlton and West Ham days. I think he's poor positionally, but on the other hand always gives 100%, which is good enough for some Blues fans.

I'd much rather go for a younger understudy for Ridgewell, who I believe should retain the left back berth going into the new season.

A loan for Chelsea's young left back Patrick van Aanholt would be a good deal in my opinion. I really rated his attacking endeavour from left back during his loan spell at Newcastle for the last half a season. Could be a superb player.

Or, we should just spend the extra dosh on N'Zogbia and if Ridgewell & Murphy are injured at the same time, N'Zogbia is more than capable of filling in there, which he proved during his spell at Newcastle where he was predominately a left back.

Disagree with you personally Will, watched him once or twice, last time was the Europa final and i thought he played very well, both aspects of his game were good and personally i still cannot see why Fulham would let him go, also has a good left foot for taking free kicks and has a hell of a shot on him

Still if come the start of next season Ridgewell is still playing at LB i certainly wouldn't complain, think hes done very well and plays well in the position

I just feel there are better left backs around than him, but i think Mcleish is trying to keep the older v younger players going, and i do agree with that, as two of our back four are novices although good players they are inexspranced. and defence is a good place to have older heads in the team.
