The only time he gets game time at Fulham is when Nicky Shorey is injured.

His distribution of the ball is terrible, and his positioning isnt always the best... I would take him but only as a last resort.

If signing him, meant that Ridgewell left, I would say no to the transfer all day long.

When people say there are better left-backs around, can we afford them? I'd take Konchesky for that price. David Murphy would be the back up and Ridge would be competing for a centre-back slot.

Shorey was only brought in on loan because Konchesky was out injured in late January, once he returned from the injury in early March he was once again a permanent fixture in the starting XI to the end of the season (only being left out in matches when Europa League matches were imminent as they were being viewed as more important).

I share your sentiments regarding Ridgey though. **thumbup

Blues have today bid 1.5m for fulham LB Konchesky.

81ues

And rejected according to Tatts.

If we do eventually buy him where does this leave Ridgewell?

Tatts is not the oracle **thumbup

Agreed.

He is a journalist, and would be better placed than thee or me to know a bid was rejected - don't need no crystal ball for that. That was all grumpy was saying.

Whereas Andy Wood ??? The original Care in the Community ?

Both 29 which is a worry when we have to pay quite a big fee. If neither hit the ground running we could be stuck with a couple of duds with no resale value. < <

Sky Sports reports this morning that a second duel bid has now gone in from Big Eck for this pair of 29 year olds from Fulham!

KRO :Blues:

They've got the story from The Mirror, it only says we are poised to bid again. McLeish wanted to wait and see how Zamora recovered from his operation before bidding. I can't see that one happening.

He'll definitely go back in for Konchesky though.

We do not need Zamora now we've got Zigic, we need a natural finisher & he is just not. Zamora had one decent season playing up front on his own but one swallow doesn't make a summer - James Beattie, Michael Rickets etc..

Konch would be OK but I wouldn't break the bank for him, there are better left backs out there.

That would have been my opinion until recently too. But then I heard Harry Redknap saying yesterday (Talk Sport) that he prefers to buy older, established players. He actually mentioned that while they had no resale value, they paid their fee in their performances. Given his success in turning Spurs from 'relegation likely's' to Champions League contenders, he may just be right.

If you buy players for their resale value, what are you actually saying? Either, they wont make it here and we will offload them, or, they will make it here and we can sell them on to a bigger or better team for the profit.

I think with the Zigic signing, for example, the manager has set us up to be more than just a stepping stone team for players either on their way up or on their way down. I really believe that he thinks he can turn us into a team who will eventually challenge for Europe, That sometimes means risking big money without worrying about getting it back in the future. We are now buying players, not stop-gaps or investments.

It was Mourinho that said that, when talking about signing Gerrard and Lampard, not Redknapp.

Mourinho told Spanish sports daily AS: "I like players in the final part of their careers.

"I love to have some players who are 33 or 34 years old... they are players that you buy and you won't recover this money, but if they give you good performances for two or three years you've got your money's worth.

I think its crazy how people can say no to zamora, who was Fulhams star player last year on there way to uefa cup final and a good premier league season.

he scored I think 18/19 in all comps....
Would be a great signing for us !

Yep, you're right. It was Mourinho. I was getting confused. Anyway, he's a bloke who's tasted success at the very highest level and probably not a bad example to follow.

Theres no need for us to sign Zamora, we need a different type of striker now, a pacey finisher.

Thats why the likes of Fletcher and Bojinov appeal more... aswell as Cameron of course.
