q2148
Jun 4 2010, 07:12 AM
engleman you must admit that if it was a choice between zamora (your mate) and miccoli we should go for miccoli as zigic can hold the up and lay off for chuchoplusgoals!(miccoli) :ph43r:

Definately q2148 Zamora isn't worth the stupid money Fulham are alleged to have valued him at and his holdups and assists for Fulham IMO were never worth more than £6.5-7Mil.

I do still have concerns that Zigic needs the level of support that he's been used to in Europe which I fear our current squad cannot deliver if he is going to replicate the brilliant goal ratio he's achieved throughout his career. I want the Big man banging in those goals for us next season and I am less enamoured with his holdup capacities. Miccoli would have the tricky play to enhance goals scoring opportunities for Zigic but in a different way, and why not visa versa.

This looks to me like a better version of Chucho and Jerome.

Little and Large.

I guess Miccoli will hold the ball up etc and bang some in. Zigic will be the header man, aerial threat and have a few shots.

Either Miccoli or Andy Carroll I'll be happy.

Carroll and Zigic would make us have the tallest strike partnership in the prem im guessing. 6foot5 and 6foot8.

Also just got this in- PALERMO REJECT BIRMINGHAM OFFER FOR MICCOLI

Palermo Reject Birmingham City Request For Fabrizio Miccoli
The Rosanero have sheltered Miccoli from a shower of Premier League interest...
By Salvatore Landolina
Jun 4, 2010 12:07:00 PM

Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini has told Birmingham City that Fabrizio Miccoli is not for sale as he impedes them from developing their interest in the striker.

Sabatini confirmed the Premier League club have made their interest known officially, but it has been swiftly turned down.

"Miccoli is not for sale. A request from Birmingham is real, but we have already said that we are not interested, in fact I consider it not to be an issue," he told Reterete24.it.

"The player will stay with us next season unless he asks us to leave so he can gain a new experience."

On Thursday, La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Birmingham had made an initial €4million offer for 'Il Romario del Salento'.

Miccoli scored 19 goals in 32 games for the Rosanero last term, firing them to a Europa League place

I can't see Miccoli forcing their hand, why would he?

After qualifiying for the Europa league as Palermo's captain I doubt he'll neglect the chance to compete in the tournament just for the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

Miccoli content with Palermo.

26 Feb 2010 Palermo FC News.

Italian forward Fabrizio Miccoli has admitted that a quick chat with Palermo head coach Delio Rossi was enough to convince him to stay with the Silicians.

The 30-year-old was reported to be unhappy at Rossi substituting him on several occasions, but Miccoli has played down talk of a major rift.

He told Palermo24.net "At one point i had some doubt's, but after I spoke too the coach and the club they were cancelled"

"I thought about the fact that I could leave the club if I was not a part of their plans, but this thought was gone soon after".

"I heard about the rumours which claimed I had trouble with the coach every time he took me off,but I have never seen anyone happy when being substituted. When I keep my head low it's my way of reacting to that".

Still a chance I reckon. .

Would love him here, he is like Chucho mixed with Kevin Phillips, he's an absolute live-wire!

And I do reckon, being 30, he will submit to the attraction of the Premier League, it just depends what he fancies, a shot at the best league in the world, or a chance to shine in the Europa League, which he had a huge say in Palermo achieving.

But seeing as though he has already tasted European football before, I reckon he may just be our next signing. (Fingers crossed)

Birmingham City plan to bid for Italian striker

Jun 5 2010 by Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail
Comment (1)Recommend (5)

BLUES have set their sights on Italian striker Fabrizio Miccoli after learning of his desire to play Premier League football.

The 30-year-old has been targeted to form a little and large partnership with Nikola Zigic

Miccoli, who is 5ft 6in tall, is coming off the back of an outstanding campaign for Serie A surprise package Palermo.

Blues have opened lines of communication with his club about a £4 million deal.

Although Palermo have insisted he is not for sale, Miccoli is keen on the move and might force the issue.

The former Juventus forward netted 19 times for Palermo, putting him joint third in the Italian scoring charts behind Antonio Di Natale and Diego Milito.

The efforts of the club’s talismanic talents and captain almost helped to earn Palermo Champions League qualification, but they finished fifth and will be playing in the Europa League next season.

A Blues source said they had been tracking Miccoli all season and decided to act fast after word got back he wanted to move to England.

It was thought he would be staying put at Palermo, where he is a huge favourite.

But the encouraging noises from Miccoli and his enthusiasm to have a crack at English football before he calls it a day have tipped matters in Blues’ favour.

Palermo sporting director Walter Sabatini revealed Blues had been knocked back in their initial approach.

“Miccoli is not for sale,” he said. “A request from Birmingham is real, but we have already said we are not interested, in fact I consider it not to be an issue.

“The player will stay with us next season unless he asks us to leave so he can gain a new experience.”

Described as a swift, tricky and a technically able striker with a penchant for the spectacular – one of his early nicknames was ‘the pocket bomber’ – Alex McLeish clearly sees Miccoli as a replacement for Christian Benitez.

McLeish opted not to make Benitez’s loan permanent from Mexican club Santos Laguna because of the overall cost and the Ecuadorian’s return of just three Premier League goals.

Blues have wasted no time in identifying players this summer.

Paul Montgomery, Blues’ chief scout, said time was of the essence for a reason: to get the squad in place for pre-season and save Carson Yeung money.

“We have put several offers in for players and the manager and the club are attempting to sort out as many as possible before the World Cup,’’ said Montgomery.

“After the finals, the transfer market starts to become inflated, there’s a knock-on effect.”

Montgomery would not discuss any specific players but said Blues had been putting in plenty of hard work to size up new recruits and then pounce, as in the case of Ben Foster and 6ft 8in Zigic.

Blues’ reported £4.5 million interest in Andy Carroll is wide of the mark.

There is no case for another striker in the Newcastle United player’s mould now that Blues have Zigic on board.

And where the attempt for Miccoli leaves Blues’ long-standing admiration of Fulham’s Bobby Zamora remains to be seen.

Juventus acquired Miccoli from Serie B club Ternana in 2002 and loaned him out Perugia.

He did well there and in all, scored eight times in 25 league appearances for Juventus.

He moved on to Fiorentina for £6 million and was farmed out to Benfica between 2005-2007.

In Lisbon (14 goals in 39 league appearances), he was fondly remembered for an acrobatic goal at Liverpool as Benfica went through to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Three years ago Miccoli, who has scored twice for Italy in 10 internationals, joined Palermo and has bagged 40 goals in 86 league games.

Bizarrely, in May, Miccoli suffered ligament damage when scoring a penalty and had to undergo surgery, so Blues will have to exercise some caution over his fitness.

But he has been tipped to make a full recovery in the next couple of months

You're not wrong, looks like we could still be in with a shout then. **thumbup

Thought if I'm honest I'd much prefer if we spent that money on trying to tempt Bojinov who is six years his younger, we also wouldn't be met with any resistance from the club he is contracted to. I imagine it will all depend on what the player wants at the end of the day.

He's that good. I think we'll bring in some younger inexperienced strikers. With the likes of Zigic and Miccoli around they'll surely learn plenty.
