Looks like a good player but hes 30 years of age surely we should be looking at younger players  or is he that good?

He's that good. I think we'll bring in some younger inexperienced strikers. With the likes of Zigic and Miccoli around they'll surely learn plenty.

I suppose but hes currrently injured and at the age of 30 its a bit of a risk.

He probably has a good 3-4 years left to play in the Premier League. Drogba and Anelka are older than him.

He's that good, I'll stick my neck on the line and say that if he joins he will score more goals than Gary O'Connor.

Dont they all play til 65 in italy tho?

He's actually quite young then. Over here he would play til about 45 I would think. £4-5m for a 30 year old ent a bad deal.

I think this is the latest update. It appears that we are to make an increased bid for the guy:

Increased bid

Pure speculation on my behalf, but I can't see us bothering to make any further bids unless the player has already indicated his willingness to join us.

Interesting to read this

Palermo
On 5 July 2007, Palermo announced on their official website to have signed Miccoli with a 3-year agreement, costing Palermo €4.3 million

Surely that would mean that he would be available on a free transfer as of 5 July 2010?

He must have extended his contract.

According to Tatts latest blog he has said that he wants to play in the Premier league and has told Blues to come and get him.
Time for his agent to have a chat with his current chairman to let him know, I reckon.

That is a quote from the first bid. It's not a second knock back at all.

According to Football Italia.

Miccoli agent his trying to renegotiate a new contract with Palermo.

The club president is saying the player still has two years left and refused to talk to his agent or Birmingham and is adamant Miccoli is staying.

I feel unless Miccoli come's out and ask's for a move we are not going to get him.

Miccoli tied to Palermo Monday 7 June, 2010

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Palermo have insisted that Fabrizio Miccoli will not be joining Premier League side Birmingham City this summer.

The striker from Lecce scored 19 goals this season and was instrumental in the Sicilians' fine campaign in which they narrowly missed out on a Champions League place.

“Miccoli will not leave Palermo,” claimed President Maurizio Zamparini. “Our fans shouldn't worry because Miccoli will stay with us.

“Regarding the offer which came from Birmingham, it is all about Miccoli's agent. They want to renegotiate his contract but he has two years left and I do not wish to change our agreement.”

The offer was confirmed by the Rosanero's sporting director Walter Sabatini, but he reiterated Zamparini's stance.

“Birmingham sent us a fax and we took only five minutes to reply: we are not interested,” added Sabatini.

“We have no appointment set with the player's agent either. Our club has been pretty clear about that.”

In the meantime, Palermo look set to snap up Massimo Maccarone from Siena. However, Lazio's Cristian Ledesma will not be moving to the Barbera.

“Maccarone will join us,” added Zamparini.

“Ledesma is too similar to Fabio Liverani, we don't need him,” concluded Sabbatini.

So the player wants a new contract after a great season...
The player wants to try his hand in the best league in the world...
The club won't talk to the player or his agent about a contract change or a move...
The club has bought a new striker already...

I think that they've got a figure they'll sell him for, the agent has a figure that he'll stay for. What we need to do is match both, within reason and he's on the way.
