Isnt his nickname 'Pocket Bomber?'

Perhaps he'll be as good as local legend Tony 'Bomber' Brown?

I hate to be a pessimist (and usually I'm pretty optimistic!!) but I just have this odd feeling that he might be another Massimo Maccarone, he had a great record in Italy didn't he?

I'd still like us to take a punt on him though, might be the dream signing we need to partner Ziggy and get us some actual goals!!

i guess the thing with Maccarone was that he was still young and not really matured in a complete player to adjust to the premier league so quick, with Fab Miccolli he is an accomplished international who has played in the Champions League for some top teams and is proven so hopefully he could prove to be a class act with old ziggy up top!

Football Italia....today

Quote from Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini.

"It depend's on him. We certainly can't give him a better wage deal than the one he's on now, which is at our limit". continued Zamparini

"If he has an offer of E2.5m per season then he should come to me,ask to be sold and we'll see".

"That would be incredibly disappointing though. It'd feel like a broken marriage".

Can't help feeling sorry for Palermo as they don't want a star to leave. That's football, it's kinda like what's happening with Milner down the road.

Yeah its bad, but like you say, thats football, I suppose it doesnt help with the fact that there is also a host of clubs chasing their other striker.

To be fair though, theyve just qualified for the Europa League so they'll have money, and theyll be receiving 4-5 million for a 30 year old if we buy him, so they can put that towards a replacement.

I think we need to be kind of ruthless in a way to move forward as a club to be fair... Im sure no club attracted a host of top-class players by giving up the chase when/if they felt sympathy towards the club.

And in this instance, we have put the money on the table without forcing the issue. Palermo declined but said they would sell if Miccoli wants to leave. If he chooses to come to Blues, then who are we to deny the guy of his dream of playing in the Prem, so actually were the good ones **thumbup

Birmingham City FC Birmingham City closing in on Fabrizio Miccoli
Jun 11 2010 by Colin Tattum
He’s nicknamed, amongst other things, the ‘pocket bomber’, such is his playing style.

Fabrizio Miccoli has been earmarked as the man to replace Christian Benitez in the Birmingham City team.

And Alex McLeish will hope that the 30-year-old enables the Blues attack to explode into more life, should a £4 million move go through.

Miccoli is no spring chicken, granted, but he is in the form of his life and eager to test himself in the Premier League.

He netted 19 times for Palermo this season – the surprise package of Serie A. The Sicilians almost made it to the Champions League but had to be contend with fifth place and Europa League competition next season.

But Miccoli is keen to move on, despite his club’s vow that he is not up for sale.

Palermo have rejected Blues opening offer that approaches £4 million, but it is thought that there is a deal to be done because of Miccoli’s keenness to head to these shores.

When McLeish opted not to take up the option on Benitez, that had been put in place with Mexican club Santos Laguna, it caused a fair old storm.

Lack of goals was cited as one reason – Benitez scored three in the league – and the fact that the package, of £8 million plus, was ‘too expensive’.

McLeish took the flak from some fans who liked Benitez and was quite prepared to back his judgment and find a player or players who could improve his team’s attack this summer.

Miccoli is unproven in England but he has managed to unlock enough tight defences in Italy and during a two-year stint at Benfica he proved himself a handful, and impressed in the Champions League.

The last of his four caps came in 2004 and there are many in Italy who believe he did enough this season to warrant selection for their World Cup squad for South Africa.

Formerly with Juventus, but unable to nail down a regular place, Miccoli’s strengths are his speed off the mark and sharpness.

He is a clever, intelligent player who makes the right runs and can also play high up against defenders as well as drop into pockets in the final third.

Miccoli is not a shy, retiring character either.

He made national headlines at the start of the year when it was revealed he purchased an earring belonging to his hero, Diego Maradona, that was confiscated by officials during a visit in Italy and sold a public auction for €25,000 to go towards a tax demand

BBC Gossip. (News of the World).

Alex McLeish is confident an improved bid of £5 million will be enough to take Fabrizio Miccoli to Birmingham this week.

Funnily enough maccaroni is on the move to Palermo from Siena
but inter Milan interest in cavani uraguan centre forward are making Palermo nervous about cover up front
Italian sky are still reporting interest from blues in miccoli but Palermo remain firm in no sale
but I think we've got a chance!
Fingers crossed pocket dynamo, I'd love him at the blues

Palermo have just signed Chilean forward Mauricio Pinilla .

They seem happy to sell Cavani aged 23 (perhaps it the profit ) but reluctant to sell Miccoli although he is 31 and could have a problem with his knee. Seem's a no brainer to me.

VIVA MICCOLI.

Edinson Cavani has a minimum fee release clause in his contract, meaning Palermo HAVE to sell him if a club offers between £22m-£25m for him... which is why they appear 'open to selling him', as they know a few teams are interested, and could drum up a bit of a bidding war to get to that level.

Pinilla was rubbish when he was at Hearts a few seasons back, but he ended up back in Italy, via a stint in Brazil and Cyprus.. and bagged 24 goals in 24 games for Serie B side Grosseto.

Pinilla and Maccarone will be joining Palermo, meaning Cavani and possibly Miccoli wil be leaving... then they will also sell highly rated centre half Simon Kjaer for his minimum fee release clause of €12m to a big club, and use the money brought in from the three, to strengthen their whole side ready for Europa League... well hopefully anyway.

How can you say Zigic was useless, he actually stood out for me today, in what was a poor performance by the rest of the team.

You’re entitled to your opinion. Your opinion is that of someone who doesn’t know much about football though.
