it's on the main site, 3yr deal. good news :applause:

here's the story in full:

Blues defender Liam Ridgewell has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

The 25-year-old will remain at St. Andrew's until 2013 after putting pen-to-paper on a fresh deal earlier today.

Versatile Ridgewell had a remarkable 2009/10 season after overcoming a broken leg in April 2009. The defender made the left-back berth his own and popped up with a number of vital goals for Alex McLeish's side.

The London-born player joined Blues in August 2007 from Second City neighbours Aston Villa for £2 million. Ridgewell has made a total of 113 appearances in a royal blue shirt, scoring seven goals.

The defender is the second player to sign a new deal at St. Andrew's this summer, with goalkeeper Maik Taylor penning a fresh one-year contract in May.

Well done Liam so pleased you are with us for at least another three years. Reward for hard work, endeavour and skill.
Your signing ranks as important as any new signing we make this season.

Glad that he has commited to us for another 3 years, after a shaky start at the club and the own goal against villa in his first season i think he has proved all the doubters wrong. He was outstanding last season and scored some good goals as well(including the one at portsmouth) :boohoo: Good news. :Blues:

I must say I'm pleased, yet concerned too.

Pleased
1
If he's first choice for left back for 2010/11. How long he can stay as first choice will depend if he can improve his attacking play because Euro challengers need that.

2
AM must think he's improved significantly to be able to cover for Johnson and Dann at their level of performance.

3
He must be satisfied with his contract package. I would not be a surprise if he there is a minimum fee and transfer triggered if his first team starts are below a certain threshold.

Concerned
1
Have we negotiated hard enough? Can't have other players thinking we are a soft touch or their are favourites.

2
When a Premier League centre-half he was prone to unforced errors. I am concerned if we had to rely on him for too many games in that position. Sorry Liam, but there was a reason Mon sold you for a low fee at this level.

I should think so seeing as we paid to have his eleventh and twelth toes removed.

Best news ive heard all week!

I think he genuinly loves it here at the club, and im certainly glad to have him in our ranks for longer.

Deserves his new contract for all the hard work he put in last season, let alone seasons before that.

Great cover at centre-half, and can play LB when required. And let's face it, he wasn't spectacular but he did well enough to be part of a defence that didn't ship many goals at all.

1. He's improved dramatically over the course of last season, maybe he can improve even more.

2. I think his performances at the tail end of last season (against Villa, Burnley and Bolton) proved he was more than adept at centre half for us.

3. Of course he'll be happy with it, we've been negotiating for months with him, both he, and the club will no doubt be happy.

1. Of course we have, we've been discussing this with Ridgwell (and Larsson too) for months.

2. Because he has no clue really? .

Mon also sold cahill.

And that was 3 seasons ago, he has improved vastly now.
There is nothing to worry about with Ridgewell signing a new contract, only positives can come from it. In Ridgewell, Dann and Johnson we have the centre of our defence sorted for many years to come hopefully.

I don't think O'Neills judgement of players is something to be relied on...

There are a good few players up for sale at Vile this summer, all of whom were signed by O'Neill and have proved not good enough...
