Just a rumour, but he's a player I've been desperate for Blues to sign for quite some time now; so the rumour is a very much welcome one indeed... http://community.footballpools.com/blog/20...world-cup-star/? Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is reported in the French press to be stepping up his pursuit of Marseille’s powerful left-back Taye Taiwo after Birmingham City expressed an interest. Ideally the Black Cats would prefer to wait until after the World Cup finals to sign the powerful Nigerian but with Alex McLeish ready to pounce, it would seem a deal will be pushed through as soon as a big is accepted by the French champions. Taiwo issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to the Premier League at the end of the 2008/09 season which alerted a number of clubs who are in the hunt to add a left-sided defender to the squad. Bruce wants to improve the quality of the Black Cats defence and Taiwo would certainly add considerable power and pace to the back four as well as an attacking threat If Taiwo can be signed ahead of Birmingham’s interest, the Nigerian would provide Sunderland with one of the most attacking full-backs in the Premier League. The player is confident in his ability which was perfectly illustrated by his comments to France-Football, “If I was to depart, then I would not join a small club. It will be Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal.” The defender wants to test his ability to play against the very best in the Premier League as Taiwo’s comments illustrate, “I am not scared by the level in England. I believe I have the right level to defend against [Wayne] Rooney. The 25-year-old Nigerian international has been linked to numerous Premier League clubs in the past year particularly Tottenham and Man City. However, it would seem that Sunderland and Birmingham are the two clubs competing for the marauding left-back. The player’s agent Franco Jovino spoke during the January transfer window about a possible move for Taiwo and his comments suggest a deal is likely this month. He said,”The player is especially popular in the Premier League. |

No way. Taiwo is double, if not more, the player Konchesky will ever be. |

That is the biggest joke I've ever heard. Taiwo would be an amazing signing - the best of the summer if we could get him. But we won't...he'll go to a big, big, club. Konchesky on the other hand - not convinced. |

He looks ok at the minute but not really been tested by Greece Big Strong and pacey Looks really willing to chase the greek runners and does not look lazy at all....which is always a worry with african players He has more of a long term future than Konchesky and has much more pace.. Positioning needs some work... |
