I'll be there for both, weirdly it's closest game to my birthday and the return leg is the closest game to my missus birthday.

esonblue, i have mentioned it on another post, i think its a fiddle. a couple of years ago we had man utd away arsenal at home and liverpool away in the first 3 games. last year wolves got west ham and this year blackpool get wigan. also the last 9 seasons i think i am right is saying albion have only been at home a couple of times, maybe the same foor blues. its a fiddle. and i think its designed to give the big 4 a good start. but all premier matches are tough its just it would be nice occasionly to get blackpool bolton wigan or west ham at home on opening day.
another thing why is it never a local derby on opening day? we play fulham away and west ham away in midweek matches which means the travel is a nightmare then stoke away is on a saturday which is 20 miles up the road. they dont care do they.

Because it's fixed, it's got to be. Man Utd get newly promoted team second year running?

roughly 3,000 unless they give all the smethwick end in which case its about 6,000 but i think they only do that for cup games, because half the smethwick end is albion season ticket holders and is always the first part of the ground to sell out season ticket wise.

I believe each club can put in requests as long as they are reasonable to the fixture arranger(s) and maybe newly promoted teams ask for a top club first to get the fixture (or in albions case fixtures out the way)

you never know mate

There was a feature on a tv programme about how the fixtures are sorted (something like intially one bloke does them, then sits down at a meeting with representatives from the club, premier league, different police services etc to fine tune them) and it was mentioned then that an unamed club asks for the top 4 teams asap in the league away

No Pooley.

Clubs don't make requests without sound and substantial backing. Facts, figures dates of other matches etc. They advise the FL or Premier League that they have European and/or commitments around certain dates.
The police advise on logistics.
The rule seems to be NO hard opening matches for certain clubs.Year after year.

The fixtures were done about 2/3 weeks ago and since then they have been "tweaked" taking into consideration various problems and advice.

Chelsea and Man Utd have started and finished at home for 4 or the last 5 seasons. I can understand that someone may realise that either club may be in a European semi-final come the last couple of weeks of the season, and so can't afford to be travelling 10 or 20 miles for an Away fixture at that crucial time.
:LMAO:

But. How about this.

Chelsea
H - WBA
A -Wigan
H - Stoke
A - WHU
H - Blackpool

Man Utd
H - Toon
A - Fulham
H - WHU
A - Everton
H - Liverpool

Arsenal
A - Liverpool
H - Blackpool
A - Blackburn
H - Bolton
A - Sunderland

First prize goes to anyone who can predict which team in the country will have 15 points come 18th September.

Which teams may have 13 or 12 points by then, and most crucially, will the baggies, Blackpool or even Newcastle stand a fair chance of acclimatisation and being less than 10 / 15 points adrift ?

Favouritism and no bloody accountability has produced another travesty of a fixture list.
imo. :D

Someone posted a good article about the "One Man and his Laptop" about a week or so ago.
That was from a BBC blog.

I've read ( in the mag) but can't find it online, another article in FourFourTwo about the favouritism shown towards the big four - except not Liverpool this year :D in the opening month.

We all know how difficult it is playing catch up when you are 10 points adrift after a month, so why can't we have a genuine fixture list is my complaint.

Almost every fixture has a talking point - promoted club away to champions, ex-manager faces old team and so on, it makes me wonder if some of the opening day fixtures are designed for PR reasons and marketing rather than being genuine.

And I think they are designed, pools. Not genuinely random.

I see that both Blues & Albion have away fixtures on the first and last days of the season.

Albions game with Wolves on the 7th May 2011 could be interesting.
