Been to the ticket office today to pick up our sunderland tickets and was very surprised, we have not sold many of the 2000 at all. It seems very strange to me that some games we can take 5000 like stoke and bolton then others like villa away go on general sale??? whats going on?

hows are you all getting to sunderland, i for one am going on the coach with the st andrews tavern

Sunderland is a long distance to travel for some fans... and costly, especially coming on the back of a summer holiday or something, or maybe people may even still be on holiday then.

Whereas the local games are far easier to get to, and therefore a cheaper alternative.

Fair point but stoke is further away than villa and stoke was around christmas also an expensive time of year and we managed 5000 at stoke and were scraping the barrel trying to get 2500 at villa park, ive been going away since age 7 im now in my twenties and have seen us go from a strong away following week in week out at places like bury and stockport in division one to now playing premier league football with a team that did us proud and finished top half and we cant take full allocations. it seems to me the new away priority schemes going to be a waste of time im a silver member but purchased tickets today when available to blue and above and there still over a thousand left! i love the club but i am dissapointed in some fans bieng so doom and gloom and staying away when we should be sold out all the time

We sold that many for Stoke, but not even half for Villa, possibly for two reasons IMO.

1) People who go to away games may have bottled it because it was the local derby and didnt wanna get caught up in anything.

(It doesnt apply to all away games, but this game was also on tv, so that would have affected the away attendance)

or 2) Plain and simply, people go to away games that they believe we will win, No-one wants to go to an away game, travel there, pay away game prices, just to see us get stuffed.

Whatever the reason, I do agree with some of your concerns. Not being able to comfortably sell-out a local derby is abit of a joke to be honest.

Maybe if we went there this season on the back of a high morale point, and Villa in a ditch, with us possibly even the favourites, then people would probably be climbing over each other for tickets.

However in terms of the OP, I remember some guy in the 'Sunderland Away' thread disagreed with me when I stated that we would struggle to sell out the allocation.

Looks like I was right the way it is heading.

I imagine that those can afford to and want to will go. However those that don't want to go or can't go won't go. It's a funny thing this free will stuff.

The price at Villa was a huge obstacle, as much as the retro-hoolies who appear every time for that event.

Anyway, after they've gone through the Gold, Silver, Copper fans, the tickets don't reach the new fans, or the general public until 4th August.

Villa were quite stingy giving us such a small amount, from what I remember there was uproar at the time.

I don't think it's a case that we took ONLY 2,500, rather, that's all we COULD have taken.

Calm down lads, still more than two weeks left. Most of my pals are waiting for general sale so season ticket holders and the rest can all sit together, its my guess come game time we will either sell out or be close to it.

Yeah it was the max we could have, given the positioning of the away fan location in conjunction with the huge park (Potential fighting arena) right smack bang outside. Thats what I heard anyway.

But I argued with so many Villa fans after the game, and I still dont know to this day, did we actually fill it out? Cause I was near the front of the bottom tier, but a few lads I know from the Holte end said there were empty seats in the upper tier?

My recollection Luke is that we sold our miserable allocation, but only just. I seem to remember some posters on here getting desperate that they wouldn't have any tickets left by the time they got through the ATM members etc.

I wasn't at that match, so I've no idea if there were any empty seats upstairs. But if your mates are insistent - give them visual directions as to where their pitch is **thumbup

IMO no chance.

Our away following is poor - while we have some deicated who go to every game away there are few and far between

We did fill it out mate.

The empty seats that they could see was on the end of the rows in both the upper and lower tiers.

They never sold us the seats on the end of rows, or on the back rows i dont think, as some sort of safety/security reason, so that if there was any trouble, they could get stewards/police in at the end of the rows to block of any trouble.

Apparently they did the same sort of thing for a few teams last season (Man United were one i think)

Oh yeah and on the topic - the big problem with Sunderland is gonna be the cost of getting there i would think. Train prices are around 70 quid!

To be honest Sunderland's bloomin' miles away, and in these times of austerity you've got to be a bit more selective with your away games.

Kro.

We only were allowed 1,300 at stoke because there was threats from the stoke fans to get their revenge for what happened to that kid in new street otherwise it would have been way more.

By the way did anything actualy happen as thats the only reason i didn't go?

Went up to Sunderland a few years ago and think it may have been in the Championship (Forsell won it with a pen). It was in the week and the only reason why I went was cos I was off work at the time on holiday. I did an overnighter up there but places like that are a long way to go just to watch a game and come back again. I did hear we took 600 that night.

Must admit though, Blues away following does seem to blow hot and cold these days, where it once seemed we used to take a fairly consistent following 1-2,000, even in the old Divs 2 and 3.

I have been surprised by some of the lack of numbers at certain games, but what amazed me last season, is that we took a full allocation to Pompey in the week, and that was just after they'd knocked us out of the Cup a few days earlier. That was according to TalkSport though, so I'm assuming that's true. That one I couldn't figure out.

Think how far away it is for me. I reckon there's parts of Germany that are closer...

For all you people moaning that Sunderland is to far away i bet you are glad that we as midlands based have far less to travel than most other teams fans. You are a joke and our support is **** thanks to you.But god bless those Bluenoses that do go to the games. You do us proud and 2 thousand vocal Blues away fans are louder than 25k home fans.FACT
See you in Sunderland everyone that can afford it.After 3 months without a game there is no excuse to miss the first game of the season!!! KRO

We did take a full allocation (1500 or so) to the midweek league game... as it was rearranged from a January Saturday 3pm KO because of the weather and we'd sold out before it was called off.
