I agree to some extent, but we should be mindful that the owners and Alex have been very busy in China trying to promote the club and carry out the pre-season schedule. Especially with the transfer market very stagnant - we shouldn't be too worried at all just yet. I expect to see a little bit of movement over the next two weeks before the big kick off, whilst managers are back in the country to complete business and then a little more movement toward the final few days of the window when moves can occur like a falling pack of cards. |

Cacau Opted to stay in the Bundesliga with VFB Stuttgart - extending his contract to 2013 - at the last minute after all but signing for Blues. Went to the World Cup with Joachim Low's German squad - scoring 1 in the 4-0 rout of Australia. |

I think we were lucky last year that so many players peaked at the same time. I imagine we wont have that kind of luck again. Without the additions of a striker (Zigic is a target man) a winger who can cross a ball and a left back who can bomb forward and provide service to the midfield we are limiting our chances of survival. I dont buy all this "Everyone is waiting" its rubbish. We are constantly told that football is a business and in business you dont sit back and watch your competitors enhance their business you make sure that you keep head of your competitors. Its okay being frugal and saying no but if an extra million will make players ours we should pay it, Pavlyechenko was a prime example of this. I was fuming that we didn't sign him in January, the side needed desperately freshening up but as we were virtually safe we chose the ride it out option instead of building on the first half of the seasons achievements. Were the same side that struggled post christmas last season and we will this year because we still haven't added quality in vital positions. We brought in Foster as we needed a keeper, it was a signing of necessity. We then signed an unknown spaniard kid that seems okay but i can guarantee he wont start the first game of the season & then we signed Zigic. He is very slow and his only impact on the team in a Premier League game will be during set plays at most, were kidding ourselves if we believe he will get many goals from open play. I will be extremely surprised if we buy a player of Pavlychenko's quality and value or a winger of the likes of Mcgeady or Nzogbia. I think the money just isn't there it was talk to get the supporters onboard. Its transfer window dejavu from the last owners. I see West Ham are signing Beckham  |

Ok point 1. You said "I dont buy all this "Everyone is waiting" its rubbish." Only Man U and City,Wigan,Wolves,Arsenal and us have spent any substancial amount of money so far, the last 2 weeks of the transfer window is where things go crazy and most of the Business gets done. Point 2. You say" we signed Zigic. He is very slow and his only impact on the team in a Premier League game will be during set plays at most, were kidding ourselves if we believe he will get many goals from open play." Ignoring the fact that Zigic has scored goals at every club he has played at apart from valencia where he was kept out of the team by david villa. Also ignoring the fact he has show real quality in pre-season and has been unlucky not to score so far. Point 3. You say"Its transfer window dejavu from the last owners." Would Sully and co. have spent 12 million on two players in on window? I will be dissapointed if we dont sign anyone else but unlike the last board if this lot say they are trying to bring in more players then I belive that the are actualy trying to do so. |

to be fair zig has averaged a goal in 2.5 games in the past which is a tremendous record in anyones book - however he is not prem proven...look at what other players failerd to achieve in the prem...one in particular scored 4 goals in 2 games yet for us he managed 4 goals all season...the prem is still a massivley higher calibre than any other league - italy, spain etc have 2/3 good teams.....we have virtually a whole league full |

:ph43r: :break: I'm surprised to read such negative and pessimistic posts from you Ian...! :ph43r: ..zz.. This from the Daily Mirror rag suggests different, although not much stock should be taken from it IMO. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Trans...icle543321.html The Mirror pundits seem to have resourced this link from Tatts published yesterday and it is clear that they are unaware that AM and CY have already agreed the transfer policy for this pre-season window i.e. striker(s) a defender and/or perhaps a midfielder as both have personally stated: http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-s...97319-26967927/ I think the claim that McLeish has now further "urged Carson Yeung to start splashing the cash" for N'Zogbia and Dembele is an extraneous blag which has simply been added to Tatts report in the Birmingham Evening Mail. Subsequently Tribal Football is now re-hassing the report of the Mirror rag. Peter Pannu has already dismissed the prospect of the N'Zogbia transfer for the excessive valuation Martinez has put on him and I think the recent reported claim that Big Eck thinks his transfer unlikely, relates to that earlier position and I for one don't believe the Zog is worth an extra £4Million. Offers just prior to the Far East tour as of the 14th are reported to have gone in for Babel, Dembele and Clyne and while those potential transfers are still in play, nothing further yet has been done to progress them on; owing to the on-going commitment to our pre-season games and squad fitness! Your excessively pessimistic critique of Zigic is nothing short of outrageous IMO! The man was given a standing ovation for his play against Derby when he was subbed for squad rotation and you've clearly missed the key aspects of the Big Man's contributions to date! He has the singular awareness to know almost by instinct not only where his team mate are but where they will be with an accuracy to feed the advancing lines. Tatts called it a Radar and has otherwise hailed him as an intelligent supportive player, and Mcleish made similar claims when he first brought him to the club after being aware of him for some considerable time. The importance of this aspect in Zigic's playmaking is worth the play of two wingers on two flanks IMO and it is a tremendous asset to our stikers as he has already proved at least in relation to GOC! KEEP THE FAITH MAN! KRO |

You didn't read my post properly did you? Your Point 1. Why are all the transfer's done in the last two weeks? Who dictates that? If we want players go and get them now, why risk losing the chance of signing them because of rushed negotiations or other clubs interest? Your Point 2. We didn't add quality to the team with Foster as we needed a keeper, by buying Foster we now have a keeper! The only player we have spent on in a bid to add some quality to the side is Zigic. Zigic i doubt very much will get goals from open play. I have watched him and i believe he will get goals but from set pieces. Your Point 3. I dont think you actually had one however you say "If this lot say there brining in players I believe them" you believe them based on what exactly? I won't believe it until i see it, when i see 2-3 quality additions being added to the team then i will believe it, at the moment however i see the addition of Zigic who is a big gamble and i will reserve judgement until after the transfer window closes. |

No, you're not alone. We only have Johnson, Dann, Ridgewell and Murphy to play in the three "non-right-back" positions in the back four. I don't really want to se us relying on Parnaby for cover for these positons, he is essentially a right back. Remember we lost Queudrue and Vignal from last season - in numbers terms only, we are two down. The minimum we need to do is replace these two, assuming Kerr is not yet ready. If there is then any money left, we need to start looking at at least two genuine wide players, be they genuine wingers or wing-striker types. |

You all may disagree with my points however Mcleish does not ;)
We have replaced players not invested as yet, granted there is still time but i believe Mcleish has outline who he wants and is becoming frustrated they are not materializing. I think he may be stalling his contract talks to see how serious the board are in their promises to fund the Blue revolution. |

I am certain that McLeish does not agree with your opinions about his recent acquisitions for in his interviews and aricles in relation Zigic, Foster and Valles he is said to be well pleased and this is mirrored by Tatts. As far as your muse on stagnation is concerned, how you can dismiss the the video'd interviews of AM and CJ regarding their conjoint intentions for this window...? it's quite beyond me! Seriously Ian, you better stop smoking that stuff man! Keep the faith! **thumbup KRO :Blues: |

I make no derogatory remarks about Valles, Foster or Zigic, as a like for like replacement for Benitez and Hart i am pleased with them. What i state is that so far we have replaced players not enhanced the team. Strangely enough in the article i quoted which you obviously didn't read Mcleish says exactly the same thing.....
As for smoking  I think you need to put yours out as its obviously destracting you from actually reading what's been written. |

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...l#ixzz0vS9h44H6 Alex McLeish has turned up the heat on Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung, claiming his squad is still short of Premier League quality. The Scot started the summer with a bang, spending £10million on Ben Foster and Nikola Zigic from Manchester United and Valencia respectively before the World Cup kicked-off. But since then he has failed to add to his ranks and he now claims that he needs to strengthen further in the next fortnight. McLeish set a club record after a 15-match unbeaten run and produced the highest top-level finish for 51 years after Birmingham finished ninth. But he knows full well that the gods smiled down during that campaign and wants help pushing a couple of deals over the line. AZ Alkmaar's Moussa Dembele is top of his list and, although he has already tabled an £8m offer for Charles N'Zogbia, he will not increase that above £10m for the Wigan Athletic winger. Trusted coach Andy Watson flew to Israel in midweek to watch Maccabi Haifa left-back Tsepo Masilela although he may try again for Paul Konchesky now that Mark Hughes has been installed at Craven Cottage. Birmingham overcame a lively Derby County side 2-1 at Pride Park thanks to goals from David Murphy and Seb Larsson but McLeish's message was clear at the final whistle. He said: 'We are still working on one or two things but at the moment there's no breakthrough. 'With the season looming we have to add more quality. If you analyse what has happened then all we have done is replace two positions. Ben Foster for Joe Hart and Nikola Zigic with Christian Benitez. 'We haven't enhanced the squad yet, we have just replaced players who have left - and people we had on loan at that. 'I know owner Carson Yeung and chief executive Peter Pannu have been working hard but we remain short of bodies. 'We need quality to help this group. A couple of forwards and a defender at least. I've seen Harry Redknapp tell Daniel Levy: "Spend big or we will end up flops" and they are in the Champions League. 'Wolves have invested heavily and I'm sure Tony Pulis will spend a few bob to consolidate after two tremendous seasons.' |

Everton and Man Utd have both suggested that they will not spend any more nor bring in any more players. A few managers are expecting the final 10 days to be hectic, as both clubs and agents push it to the limit. Either pay over the odds now or get the player at the proper price later. :D |
