Local reports up north say we are close to signing the Sunderland LB just as long as his injury picked up in Portugal last week is ok...

Well, Bruce doesn't seem to rate him, so he may be....

I'll be disappointed if this is the supposed "enhancement" of the side. Everyone can see that Nathaniel Clyne is the one that's required, and if we settle for a guy that's surplus to requirements at a mid-table side, it won't be popular.

I actually think McCartney is a good player and would enhance our squad, I don't see how people can say he wouldn't . He was really good for West Ham. Clyne would be great as well so maybe we would be in for both. :banner:

Sounds like "AGENT PUNTING" for McCartney, not a premier lge player imo.

Would suit someone like Ipswich/Cov....

Clyne is a RB so nothing to do with this deal. This is probably more looking at alternatives if Konchesky doesn't come here.

Masilela is a decent left back to be honest, far better than George McCartney anyway!

He was excellent for West Ham, I've always liked him. He's got a really good touch. I've mentioned him before on these boards. I'd like him here.

Sorry, my mistake. I've a feeling that Konchesky would be here by now if we were serious about him.

they haven't had a manager for over a month so no deal was going to happen realisitically. Now it'll take a week or so for Hughes to decide if he wants him and/or can convince him to stay. So if he is going to come it'll be towards the end of the window possibly even after the season starts.

Still not encouraged. The Sunderland fan who works with me calls him "sicknote" and says that he might be a good signing if we could get the best out of him, but it's unlikely. On the forums Sunderland fans are saying things like "They can have him", and "I'll drive him there myself".

Read a rumour this morning that Middlesbrough are after David Murphy. Perhaps they know something we don't.
