So who would you pick at left back now that Murphy is fit? Ridgewell or Murphy? Wonder which one Big Eck will prefer up at Sunderland? Personally I like Murphy but Ridgewell if he cant get in the side as a central defender then I would play him every time at left back... What do you think? Kro. |

Ridgewell has done nothing to merit his exclusion, but he should know that competition is now strong, and will get stronger if another LB (maybe Grosso?) is signed. |

Whomever does the business in training gets the spot. And If its Murphy, we got a perfect sub for a couple of positions, if it ain't Murphy then he can always take over LB and Ridge moves across if needed... voila ! Perfect. Like having a new player even. :D |

i wouldn't be surprised to see (if fit) something like this: Car - Dann/Johnson - Ridge - Murphy |

I've never really understood the vendetta against Murphy tbh. I always thought that what he lacks in his defensive side, he more than makes up for in what he offers going forward. If he can improve certain aspects of his game, namely his fitness and positioning, then I don't see any reason why he couldn't hold down a regular place in the side. |

I think that LB is a problematic position for alot of clubs up and down the country, theres just not enough strong full backs available and TBH im happy with Ridgewell and Murphy, the coaching staff seem happy with Murphy since hes returned so lets just wait and see. In response to the OP, Id go for Ridgewell and start the season with the back 4 that did so brilliantly last season :banner: |

Perhaps it's the wrong question **thumbup Instead we might ask Dann or Ridgewell? Ridgewell could start alongside Johnson with Murphy at left back and Dann on the bench, but it's all guesswork at present and it's likely that even AM hasn't decided yet. Dann, imo, still has a lot to learn at Premier level about doing the basics correctly. Even though he had a very good last season, towards the end he gave the ball away a lot trying to pass through midfield, and if goals conceded in the last few games are analysed it will be seen that Dann was responsible for quite a few, and, at crucial times. I like Dann a lot, but the Premiership is a killer zone when it comes to the opposition taking chances created by defenders' mistakes. Ridgewell was similar in his early Blues career, giving away silly goals through basic mistakes, but he has worked hard to make sure the basics are right and to concentrate throughout the whole 90 minutes. This has resulted in Ridge now making very few basic errors and improving his overall game immensley. Dann will be the same in time but imo Ridge should play alongside Johnson at present. It may be an unlikely scenario, but is just an opinion and is not anti Dann in any way whatsoever as I believe he has the potential to be a better CB than either of Johnson or Ridgewell. It's a great position to be in, having three top class CB's with one of them also having the ability to hold his own at left back at Premeirship level - fantastic, and very significant that the two signings of Johnson and Dann, and the improvement of Ridgewell have all occurred under the management of AM **thumbup It would be tough on Ridgwell to be on the bench, and although he is by no means a natural left back, last season Ridge grew well into that position and, imo, still shades it over Murphy from what we have seen thus far. So even if Ridge is not picked at left CB, he should be given the nod at left back over Murphy. Great to see Murphy up and running again though, especially after such an awful injury - a great credit to him, and the backroom staff **thumbup |

Ridgewell for me. Murphy seems to back off far too much, all the time, every game. |

If it's a given that Dann and Johnson are going to start as our center half's then ridgwell should be given the left back role everytime with the current options we have. |

Would prefer Murphy in all honesty ....LB is his natual position whereas Ridge is a central defender Hope Murph can prove his critics wrong if he can stay fit this season....when he first signed for us midway through the PL campaign of 2007/08 he was quite excellent....very good crosser of the ball as well Ridge is a very capable back-up for the CB's Some folks on here don't realise Murph had a career threatening injury.....Glad to see the guy back :applause: :applause: |

Ridgewell for me. Was great last year and is likely to improve still further. Murphy does not give me confidence - on tonight's showing (MK Dons) anyway. I've not seen him in the pre-season games that people have raved about him though. |

Jassy David Murphy (1.5 million) and James McFadden (5.75 million) were both signed by McLeish during the January TW of 2008 ......Zarate came in on loan around the same time Liam Ridgewell is a Steve Bruce signing......along with Gary O'Connor, Seb Larsson and Maik Taylor the only ones still at the club today that he signed on.....I'm fairly certain Jordon Mutch also joined the Academy when Brucie was still here **thumbup **thumbup |
