Malky thompson, our reserve coach has also been poached by oleary and has gone to the UAE. Seems to be some problems behind the scene when you consider big eck not signing his new contract, back room staff leaving, and lack of transfer action. Check blues official sight for story

Think you'll find that Malky Thompson has probably had one of those 'offers you can't refuse'......clubs out there are willing to throw a lot of wages at people, this is why a lot of players seem to either find their way there in the twilight of their career or as young S.American startlets.......high wages and very low taxes. Don't forget also that Aitken is now out there as well so it's not surprising that at least one of our coaching staff would also get persuaded to go as well.

Seems to me that both Peter Pannu and Alex McCleish aren't too worried about the contract negotiations and the reports are that AM is very close to signing it anyway. All the speculation seems to be coming from the press who so far have tried to link him with the Liverpool, West Ham and Fulham jobs.....possibly given a green light to do so by David Golds comments about him being the perfect manager for Liverpool, therebye very subtely implying that there might be areas of his contract that another club could exploit; a contract that incidentally was signed with the former owners, wonder if they did the same with SB's old contract!

As for the transfer activity, AM likes to keep his cards very close to his chest and I'm still confident that we will see more coming in....even if it ends up as two loans, although I would expect fairly high profile ones or players we need to evaluate if the case. If you look at the prem at the moment there's a lot of free transfers and the only club really splashing cash is Man City, 3 clubs in the Prem have yet to sign anyone (V...V..Vi (still can't say it but you know who I mean!), Blackburn and Blackpool.....even any free transfers!!

There will be a sudden rush in the last few days as the bigger clubs realise that they're going to be paying wages out to players they can't even include in their 1st team squad because of new rules......it's quiet at moment because all the clubs are waiting on one or two big(ish) transfers to kick start the merry go round.

Have faith!

Pannu and the board had better watch out this isnt good. It takes a whilw for staff and players to get used to and trust each other. We had a great team atmosphere and had a happy club. The players respected working with Aitkin and knew that even though he was bellowing at them to do better this was his job.

People complain about his language but he was also a thoroughly decent professional and been an excellent footballer and athlete in his time.

Instability can be a perfect recipe for relegation just look at examples of Newcastle, Charlton and Portsmouth.

Yeung/Pannu if you want to to stay on the top flight you better get your ***** in gear.
Being steady, cautious, practical and thorough is all well and good. But the good work that your doing is being undermined because others are taking your assets.

These guys could have afforded anyone but they took personnel from Birmingham city.
That must give you some idea that this is a big loss. When Bowman went to Blackburn Bruce didnt sort it really.

Losing good coaches is like losing great players in someways it's worse as the staff help build the longterm infrastructure and nature of club. Ferguson has created an era on a par with Busby.

Why did they go did they feel there was not enough ambition at the club?
Why hasnt McLeish signed?

These are huge losses and Pannu and Yeung had better sort it out now if they want top flight football or will be in the bottom 3 all season.

Is it just the money? If they were coaches at ManU would they go as fast. Coaching staff want to be part of a successful club too.

It is part of the clubs responsibility to ensure the staff are well paid but also well motivated. That the club is ambitious and they are integral parts of this. The staff can be part of something that they can be proud of. If all they can provide the staff with is a wage packet then yes they will go to the highest bidder and the club will constantly flounder through lack of stability and vision.

McLeish is absolutely right to call the club in terms of investment and ambition. It is his backside on the line if the club fails to do well and many will be calling for his head the first chance they get just like they were last year.

If he isn't given the tools to do the job then we will fail to compete and that's the way it is.

Progression is the only option in this business.
