"I know he's bursting to play central midfield but we've got good players that had great seasons there last year and I need to assess things over the next few days to see who is looking the sharpest. "We know that Bowyer and Ferguson are the guys in pole position and I suppose the smart money would be on these guys starting. "But I've been really impressed by Gardner and also Michel's performance." This bit really frustrates me, as Gardner has been arguably the best player for Blues this preseason. With all due respect to Bowyer, he was far less consistent the second part of last season, and that, along with preseason form should mean that Gardner deserves to definitely be starting alongside Ferguson come next Saturday, in my opinion. |

I think bowyer should start the season but be used a bit cleverer a few games in, last season after a whilehe drifted in and out of games and doesnt have the engine someone like fergie has so gardner, michel and fahey et all will have to bide their time and i'd think after fergie and bowyer those 3 would be in that order |

Personally Id love to see Gardner with Fergusson but I feel we will start with the Bowyer and Fergusson partnership, also would love to see Michel get more of a run in the team as I think he has had a very good pre season and like Fergusson is very confortable on the ball. |

I Hope he starts Gardner with Fergie last part of last season a few performances weren't very good, Bowyer is a good player but think he should be a squad player this season. we need younger blood this season to pick up the mantle that Bowyer and Fergie carried well last season. |

fergie and michel would be more defensive - michel is a more defensive player and less likley to get forward than bowyer will |

Gardner may have done well in pre-season and I wouldn't necessarily have any concerns about him starting against Sunderland, but the Premiership is a different kettle of fish to pre-season friendlies and Bowyer has the nouse for it. I think Gardner should be introduced during the season as a rotation with Bowyer. Then, if he takes his opportunity, let him hang on to the shirt. |

Michel and Gardner is the future! At the moment I'd go with Bowyer and Fergie and do what pooley said switch Bowyer a few games in or when he tires |

Everyone is forgetting that Bowyer had one of his better seasons for a few years now, he came to us to get 1st team football. Given his and the teams relative success last season the gaffer is'nt just going to turn round and say 'yep Gardner replacing him as of now'. It's a statement to keep Bowyer on top of his game for longer and Gardner pushing harder for that midfield spot **thumbup |

I'm not forgetting that Bowyer's first half of last season was incredible, it's his second half which was far less consistent. I've always rated Lee, but I view it as Gardner is in the ascendency at the moment (due to his performances out of position since joining, along with being a real standout when in his favoured position this preseason) and Bowyer seemingly going in the opposite direction, or perhaps standing still is a better way to put it, over the same period of time. Remember that Gardner (or Michel for that matter) never got a look in last season at centre mid because AMc wanted to remain loyal to the centre pairing that did so well for the better part of the season, and fair play, but by the later stages of the campaign a change could have very easily, and quite rightly, been made as Bowyer's overall form had taken a dip. I'd personally go with Gardner and Ferguson, but I understand the Bowyer and Ferguson argument, and it is a sound one. **thumbup |
