We need a goalscorer, but we arguably needed a Zigic as much. Garry O'Connor isn't going to create chances for Jerome like Zigic will.

Sack the board!!!

What I meant was...it will take a proven goalscorer to make the diffence like Forssell (Was).

We ended the Derby match booting up (route one) and I can see us doing just that this season unless the defence keeps us in the game. We score three after being two down against a very poor MK Dons side and we played no-one (with respect) in China. We haven't been a goalscoring team for 2/3 seasons and on what I saw on Saturday, nothing has changed. IMHO

ooh Poppa, you're in McLeish-bashing territory now.

And what you have posted is exactly why my views on McLeish are what they are.

So the OP isn't really a jury's out on Zigic, it's a jury's out on a style of play change this season. Is there a change or not? and not is Zigic any good?

I'll disagree.

From what I've seen so far in pre-season, our football has been lovely. 2 touch on the floor stuff.

edit: it was last season 'n' all.

We ended the Derby match booting up (route one) and I can see us doing just that this season unless the defence keeps us in the game.

An observation made by Alex McLeish - although it was NOT at the end of the match. They did that in the first half and he was perpelexed and said so.

We did it again against Real Mallorca - but that was in the second half.More desperation than plan I think.

McLeish has said repeatedly that he wants to play the ball and not hoof it in hope. So it is upto the players with experience to get it through to the others. They understand.

It's more to do with confidence (the players in themselves) than any plan or tactic I think. The greater the ability and confidence in a crucial role ( Bowyer and then Ferguson) the less liklihood of hoofing.

I don't for one minute think that hoofing or route one is practised at wast Hills, and can understand McLeish's anger and upset when he seems them do it.

Of course the jury is still out, he hasn't played a competitive game for us yet. We don't have enough to judge him either way, so lets just support him.

**thumbup

And last year, didn't we have some of these same guys predicting all doom and gloom over Johnson and Dann.
Being bought for "peanuts" I believe one of our 'supporters' said. Untried in the Prem. From 2nd rate Championship teams. Proved McLeish wasn't upto it in England. Relegated by Christmas.

:LMAO:

The obvious comparison with Nikola is because of the role Chucho played last season.

We had a thread about him - Is the Jury out on Benitez? Before he'd played a full match.

And when his lackadaisical attitude to training drove McLeish wild we had the 'Play Chuco or get relegated' rubbish.

Same with Nikola. When the management feels he has reached the standard required to protect himself from injury - (as much as run around ) - he will play.

Until then, no jury can be sworn in let alone pass comment with any credibilty. Sound off - fine.
Want to be taken seriously?
Please wait.
:D

Let's wait, please. Before we take positions, and attack yet another blues player.

I was quite impressed from what i saw of him on Saturday

He looked intelligent and sharp clever - sometimes a little too clever for the other players around him !!

That said if he scores TEN this season i will be amazed - he likes to drop deep and create and i agree maybe an out and out poacher is needed

In the meantime Jerome looks the best bet alongside him

Valles i was very impressed with :Blues:

I wouldn't mind seeing Zigic & Phillips up front, with Jerome on the wing instead of McFadden.
