M220V, did Benitez play in the 0-1 defeat to Columbia at the weekend. Assuming that he did then his record this season is:

10 goals in 9 games for Santos Laguna
3 goals in 3 games for Ecuador.

Pretty impressive, eh?

I still don't understand why people go on about this guy! I mean when other players have left they don't brought up this much! The guy will never play for us again so why keep on bringing him up? Lets look to the future lads not the past!

This season he has scored 10 goals in 9 games for Santos Laguna and 3 goals in 3 games for Ecuador.

ooorrrrrrr Christian Benitez.

I don't wish to be controversial but pound for pound I think Benitez is a better buy than Zigic. Just an opinion of course.

Yes because the Mexican league is just the same standard as the Prem and pace as the prem isn't it!!!!

I have nothing against the guy and to compare him to Zigic is unfair as they are different players, however the other side to that argument is that Zigic has played at the top level in Champions League etc where Chucho will never probably reach that standard with a top European side!

any chances we get him back?...XD

None, he cannot pass the English language test
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecont...ish-requirement

That's rubbish. If we had taken him full time at the end of his loan there would have been no problem. It was only a proposal from Teresa May in June and was never brought in as the Labour party went out of power.

I doubt it will happen - but I would LOVE to see it never the less.

Only my opinion before people tell me about his goal ratio.

Obviously people think we are BETTER now with Zigic instead...

Personally I prefer going on long unbeaten runs and actually look exciting and dangerous when we play.

But obviously it is beter to get bossed by West Brom and struggle in every game we play etc.

Good point , mate

We sold Trevor Francis to Forest 31 years ago in Britain's first ever million pound deal

Yet even today Trev is a legend at St Andrews and gets talked about all the time

Will people mention Christian Benitez in 31 years ??

Of course not

Big difference.........TF knew how to put the ball in the net

It would be great if we could discover another 'home grown' talent like him.....

Nathan Redmond anyone ??? :ball:

Actually it's very likely, because he was a key part of Blues greatest season ever. Some might say he was a major factor in that season's success.

It wasn't Blues greatest ever season FYI

That was 1955/56 when the club finished 6th in the top flight and reached their last FA Cup Final

Like I mentioned with Trev, older fans still fondly remember the likes of Eddy Brown, Gil Merrick, Gordon Astall, Peter Murphy, Noel Kinsey and Jeff Hall (the Memorial scoreboard and clock ??)

Benitez in future decades ??

Not a chance :P

You could also argue whether the class of 2009/10 were better than the side of 1972/73.....that team managed to finish 10th in their first season back after promotion but played a much more attacking blend of football and scored quite a few goals along the way especially in a very impressive last third of the season

Although I can accept the PL is a little tougher these days......There wasn't really two or three mega rich clubs winning everything back then and in the various years prior to the mid 70's ...More clubs were competing for the title ......Unfortunately for the rest of us , Liverpool FC dominated the English football scene for a good 16-17 years after that due to the Shankly, Paisley and Dalgleish philosophies, their famous Boot Room tactical chats and their ability to maintain a very high standard of football by signing some unique and fanatstic players as well as producing a few excellent ones of their own

own up who updated his wikipedia?

Quote:

He made his Birmingham debut as a second-half substitute in Birmingham's opening match of the season, a 1–0 defeat at Manchester United, and came close to equalising, drawing a "wonderful one-handed diving save" from Ben Foster.[18] His first Premier League start came against Hull City on September 19; he played a key role in a 1–0 win and "could have had a hat-trick but for the supreme goalkeeping of Boaz Myhill".[19] Benítez scored his first goal for the Blues on November 9 away to Liverpool, with a close-range header after Scott Dann had nodded the ball on, in a game which finished 2–2.[20] He scored the first of what manager Alex McLeish described as "two classy goals" as Birmingham knocked Everton out of the FA Cup at Goodison Park.[21] However, after his season produced only four goals and Birmingham's attempt to renegotiate the agreed transfer fee was unsuccessful, the club chose not to take up their option to purchase, and the player returned to Santos Laguna

lol at the bits in bold and italic...the only role he played in the hull game was miussing a hatfull of chances against a poor team/keeper/defense and doing a really bad terry butcher impression!

his shot against united was too close to foster and a good height for him

Shall we compare games to goals ratios for the two players.

Benites , half a season 3 goals.

Zigic four games three goals , one of which was against arsenal.

It seems zigic just edges it

I did love Chucho but what baffles me is how many on here were willing to write Zigic off after 1 start and a handful of sub appearances and 1 goal but after a WHOLE SEASON only scoring 3 league goals many were willing to give Chucho a whole other season to prove himself!

I was gutted when we didn't sign Chucho but as another poster has said, he isn't a Blues player anymore so there is no point comparing him with our current players. And comparing the Mexican league and the PL is laughable.

Yup. Although the post-goal high-five would have been an awkward moment.

:LMAO:

They would have been the tallest and smallest player in the league though. Do miss Chucho bless him.

i to was gutted to turn on sky sports news that faithful morning to find chucho was going back to mexico
i'm glad the guy is doing well back in the mexican league
but apparently he had abit of an attitude problem and scarsly turned up to training in the second half of the season
not the type of player you want at blues.
We want people who bleed for the club!

14 goals in 13 games.

How many did he score last season in the prem?

is it much of a suprise he is scoring in what is most likely a league 1/2 standard.

I put money that every goal is a 1 on 1 were he rounds the keeper.

He had a spark yes. But he had no place in the premier league, one of his goals was off his chest!

Look at the penalty we gave him. He might aswell have got on his hands and knees and tried to head it in.

These threads are pointless. He didnt cut it even with an extended run in a 4-4-2 team but you people still saying how much we miss him. Zigic 4 games 3 goals.

No comparison who i would rather have in the team.

It's a game of opinions.

I think it was no coincidence that our unbeaten run started when he was eventuallty picked. He was an ever-present in that unbeaten run and again I think it no coincidence we have been positively below par after McLeish stopped playing him.

Opinions of course, but I so enjoyed the style of football when he played, the skills of Benitez when he played, the interlinking with McFadden when he played and the unbeaten run in which he played in every game.

For most of this year I have not enjoyed our football and have now stopped going.

And my opinion is that Chucho was ****. And with all respect to the posters who keep posting that he has scored again in some tin pot league, if you don't mind I will side with all the top managers, coaches and scouts of all the clubs in the all of the decent leagues in European football that have not even glanced in his direction.

Chucho my bottom!

He scored again last night. 14th goal in 13 appearances.

He leads the league in scoring by 4 goals to the next closest player (Suazo of Chile).

As far as no other European teams wanting him, that's a load of ******. Perhaps not for the 8M his team demanded, but surely for a lower price.

But look at the quality of that goal.. Opportunities like that dont just open up in a real footballing league.

I liked Chucho, and I thought he added an exciting new dimension to the team, but I dont understand where people are going with these constant updates about how many goals he is scoring in the Mexican cup-cake league.

Joe Hart was a real hero of last season, and is replicating his fine form this season in the best league in the world, but we dont have a thread keeping us updated with all the saves he makes?

Some people are quick to tell people to 'Move on and get over Joe', but yet we have a 6-page thread on Chucho
