Mate of mine got a speeding ticket the other day was on the A435 between the M42 roundabout and Maypole, Mobile camera got him, £60 fine and 3 points on his license! he was gutted..

Last time I got one was on the hagley rd in Edgbaston and the speed camera got me doing 48 in a 30 mile zone.. "no"

Speed camera's its just unlucky if you get caught. I mean nobody sticks to speed limits do they?

Are the shoplifters that get caught by CCTV cameras just "unlucky" as well? What about the hooligans that get identified by our cameras at games and banned for life? How unlucky are they that they got identified when their mate next to them got away with it?

You break the law, you deserve everything that you get.

If everyone got 'done' for speeding the roads would be empty. ;)

agree with you on that but motorists are easy targets. virtually everyone on the road speeds, i have been working twilights just lately, finishing at 2-00am and the ammount of cyclists i see riding with no lights is unbelieveable, i have seen police drive past them and ignore them. if a car had no lights he would be stopped. age old arguement speed cameras are there to make money not save lives. its been proven.

I stick to the 30 speed limit in built up areas but theres a road i use with a 30 limit thats not built up and is almost like a dual track, so i go quicker on that one.

Assuming you mean the M42, and the stretch of the A435 between Beckett's Farm and the Maypole, they are always catching people along there. There is a very nice hidey hole alongside one of the bridges so people don't see them in time to slow down.

Yes I do , when you see the accidents I do down to speeding drivers on narrow lanes it's frightening.

On wensday I saw a BMW sticking half out of a hedge resting on the barrier at the corner of a roundabout , that was because the driver went around it too fast.

Is it worth the risk?

it's like all crimes. sometimes you will get away with it but if you get caught then there is no excuse. the speed limit is there for a reason.

obviosly everyone goes over it sometimes but the is no excuse. most of the time i speed is when i'm simply following the car in front and don't realise how fast i am going. i always try to keep to the limit because i know how dangerous it can be. as a young driver my insurance is high enough as it is without the points, and it's guys like you who make it so high.

so thanks for that mate :banghead:

the fact still remains it is against the law.

If you (or anyone who speeds) breaks the law and considers themselves 'unlucky' for being caught then that shows what kind of a person you are.

Is a murderer unlucky when they get caught? Speeding kills wether you like it or not - I agree speed cameras are there to make money, but that doesnt change the fact the higher your speed the higher your breaking distance and the less reaction time you have, the more likley a child is to be run over who ran into the road to get a ball

How can you compare breaking the speed limit to someone commiting murder?

I admit to driving in excess of the speed limit from time to time. Speeding is fine, provided it is done in a safe manner. You have to risk assess the road, area and make your own personal judgement.

At the end of the day, getting caught speeding is unlucky. And if I get caught I'll pay the fine and take the points because I know the law and by speeding I've broken it.

To all you people who stick to the speed limit, can you stick to it in the slow lane of the motorway and not hold the rest of us speeders up, we’ve got places to go and we like to get there as fast as possible.

Thanks

Oh well all you speeders are going to be happy when the govenment takes the cameras of the roads in favour of a copper with a speed gun.

That is something I'm not looking forward to, knowing a camera is there is a deterant knowing it's not is going to cause more accedents, the police can't be everywhere can they.

someone speeds and hits someone and kills them then they have effectivley murdered that person.

If speeding is fine then it wouldnt be against the law.

Thats like saying shoplifting is ok if it is a company whio are making big profits because you have assessed the situation and feel it is ok...it is not upto you to make the laws or pick and chose which ones you agree with.

Would you think speeding was ok if someone speeding killed your wife/parents/other loved ones? Is it ok to drive and drive late at night because you have assessed the situation and there are ony a few vehicles around so it is less likley you will be involved in an accident?

There are a number of factors which come into someone being killed.

One of the main factors ofcourse is the speed of the impact the person recieves from the collision.

But its more likely to be the pedestrian or driver doing something dangerous or stupid. I'm of the opinion that breaking the speed limit isn't dangerous provided it is done in the right circumstances. However, the term 'speeding' is dangerous because the person is driving to fast for the conditions of the road and area as 'speeding' gives you less time to react to hazards.

Out of interest have you ever applied to the police? :fishing:
