not every single one...a top ref would have controlled the players and not let it get so out of hand |

He had a superb game in the world cup final. How do you control the uncontrollable and those that only have the intent of spoiling the show piece of world football? |

Shall we just play a 5 a side game to save him the trouble of doing what he loves best an reaching for those cards? |

Garbage, he is a flippin top ref and that is why they gave him the final ... no ref could have controlled that game any better than webb, he gave correct yellows and controlled probably the worst final in decades as best any ref could...no ref could have done better. |

He only made two mistakes in that game (not sending dejong off and a free kick decision). And including extra time, that is an outstanding achievement to only make so little mistakes. Brilliant ref to official a fierce derby. Bring it on. **thumbup |

The only ref I fully respect. Mainly down to the comments he made after he accidently helped Wolves score past us in the FA cup 2 seasons ago. |

why do people go on about the world cup final like all the cards were his fault because he couldn't control the players? Its the PLAYERS responsibility, not the ref's to stay out of the referees book. |

Thats well wide of the mark IMO. Howard Webb is our top referee, and controlled the World Cup final aswell as anybody could when you had Holland playing such anti-football, and basically kicking the Spaniard's off the pitch. The only thing different he shouldve done (other than send De Jong off) was perhaps book a couple of players earlier on for a couple of the early bad fouls, as opposed to just warning them, as they then got out of hand and took advantage! Webb's main problem in general though is his uncertainty to give penalty decisions, unless he is 100% sure on them, meaning that he may well miss a penalty decision Sunday if one comes about, but all in all im happy with the appointment of him as referee, Blues v Villa games need a strong referee, with experience.. |

I'd rather a Ref thought 2 or 3 times about a penalty, an like Whitehead tonight actually tell the diffrence between a dive and a gen-pen **thumbup To be arguing the t o s s about a match that has basically no emotional or physcological relevance to a Ref or the players involved - like next Sunday's - is more of an indication of how the pooleyman can distort a thread and the substance of the thread. :D As MF says, Webb is the top or amongst the Top of the Refs we have available in the Prem. We just need a guy that knows how to do the job correctly. It don't matter a jot what how many yellow cards or red cards he should have given in the most watched game in the history of footie. This is a local derby and with 2 other 'vindictive' local derby's this weekend - I'm glad we've got the best Ref. Cool it Pooleyman and stop sidetracking threads. **thumbup |

Mark Halsey would have been my ideal pick - thinks before dishing out the cards but dishes them out when necessary - you dont want a card happy ref to officiate a hot local derby when a few challenges will be going in, if either side gets an early yellow then it could easily ruin the game as a spectacle...halsey is firm but fair and likes to let the game flow which is what you want/need in a local derby. I fully expect a yellow or two in the first 5 mins which means that players will need to be very careful from then on. |

In derby matches it's usually a good thing for match control to dish out a couple of cautions (if necessary) early on, it helps to calm the players down and make them think twice before jumping into a tackle that could lead to a major incident such as a mass brawl. Webb's not what I'd call particularly card-happy either imo, he averages 3/4 yellows a game with 1 red every 6 games or so, which is about right for a referee that is usually chosen for the high pressure games. |

He also had a good game in the Liverpool derby. The man's just refereed the World Cup Final. Blues Villa by comparison will be like refereeing two kids teams on your local recreation ground. :P |

Yeah he owes us one for the cup loss v Wolves a couple of seasons back i think he more or less passed the ball to one of their players to go on and score.. it would be sweet if he gave us a penalty..... please |

He should of gave us a penalty in that game . bent was taken down from behind. In fairness webb did come out and say sorry he should have gave it us. |

He reffed us again that season, in the final match of the season when we went to Reading and won 2-1 and we got promoted.... he was quite generous to us in that one too, so I think he made up for his Wolves mistakes then  |
