I Wish Our Players Would Keep Schtum

I seem to remember in the early Prem derbys that we maintained a press silence ahead of the game, with perhaps the odd quote from the manager. This week we've Phillips, Ridgewell, Dann, Taylor and even Zigic going to press, some of which sounds at best open to interpretation. Better not to give the press something to spin.
I wish they would keep schtum, and let their feet do the talking on sunday.

Yeah have to admit I thought the same thing when reading it all, sometimes its better to wait, surely gloating would be more fun after the event...

However I just thing they are letting us know that it is as important to them as it is to us, which I can also understand

Either way... Bring it boys!!!

I agree but I have tried to take a different view this time, we will most probably lose, we are away from home and our distant cousins have had the hoodoo over us for awhile so no one expects us to win. So what does it matter, if we win fanbloodytastic if we lose f em. simples!

If u read behind the headlines , they are certainly not saying anything too patrisan or boastful

I must admit one of my fav memories is hearing steve bruce after a game at villa park saying " i heard a certain mr mellberg saying he would never play for us , well let me say to him now he is not good enough to get into our team "

happy days

Lets hope its us with bragging rights on Sunday

the melberg comments were great, especially after we did them.

to be honest our boys aren't being disrespectful towards vile, just saying how much they want to win it! ridgewell even said "i had the pleasure to play in the wins for villa over birmingham, so i want to get the win for birmingham". they're just commenting on how much they're looking forward to the occasion.

has there been any noises from the vile camp? they're probably too scared tio say anything!

It seems that Houlier has carried on from where O'Neil left off.

That is, the manager does the talking. Other than Beye - (talking about how he helped push Carr into early retirement at the toon,) and Sidwell - there has hardly been anything said by any villa player about the derby

But that is normal these days, hardly any villa player seems to have access or requests for interviews about any upcoming match. It's always the manager. Must be in their MON-style contracts I suppose.

Two people - Sidwell and Beye are the only villa players to have made the media in the last 10 days from my searching.

Whereas at Blues the players are approachable and not under any kind of clamp. For any match.

The comments I've seen suggest that they're just fired up. The difference for me is that Mellberg's comments were spiteful and intentionally derogatory, whereas we're talking up the importance of the game.

Naturally I won't have read everything out there so I'm happy to be directed to links proving me wrong.

Habib Beye has been talking it up to the media?? :LMAO:

Im sure Carr will lose many hours sleep, lying in bed, thinking long and hard about derogatory comments directed at him from such an esteemed professional haha

It was injuries that forced Carr to retire from Newcastle under Keegan, not that little no-mark from B6

I just googled Sidwell and found an interview, and I cant find any bad remarks in it? He actually sounds quite respectful of the fixture..

Having played in last season’s 1-0 win at St Andrew’s, secured via a late Gabby Agbonlahor header, Sidwell is under no illusions over just how big Sunday’s game is.

He said: “It is always a big game in this town. We’ve just got to treat it as another match though.

“It is another game in the Premier League  and we’ll just get on with that and whatever result it brings, it brings.

“There will be a lot of attention, I am sure it is going to be a fiery event but we are all professionals and we all know what we need to do.

“I just want to get started.''

What did he say mate?

Yeah, I think it is good that the players are raising the profile. If people were saying that Villa were a smaller club and that we were going to tonk them, and viceversa were talking us down, I would be annoyed; but it seems to me people on both sides are just saying how much they are looking forward to it. I find it encouraging that players with little connection to the derby, such as Zigic, are so fired up for this one.
