A lot of forums have had bits and pieces on this but I note nothing on here so...do people really care?

IMO they were always overrated for what they were and were a bit of a rubbish band. I dont see what the hoo-ha about them in the first place was so certainly dont see the excitement about them reforming

I'm not bothered about the Wedding either....

However, I will wave a flag if we are all given the day off

See the brit pop thing is funny because it lumped so many bands together who sounded nothing alike all because they were british and around at the same time.

Someone like suede as an example were class, as were theraphy (although they were a bit heavier than the other brit bands but around at the same time).

A lot of pap came out around that timeish though - like kula shaker, ocs (apart from mosley shoals), oasis, etc

Pulp weren't my cup of tea either. Those bands that Daz named are more on the mark, although in the 90's I was more into Tigertailz, Enuff Z'nuff, Poison, Mr Big, Skid Row and all that. All of that grunge stuff wasn't very interesting at the time, although I'll listen to Alice In Chains and Soundgarden a lot now.

never had you down as a 'hair metal' fan but fair play

:applause:

My fav 'hair' bands would be :

Dokken
Ratt
Van Halen
Queensryche
Ozzy (with jake)
Slaughter
Tyketto - More 90's tho
Hardline - More 90's tho

Suede weren't bad actually

I kind of liked Kula Shaka, they were like 60's Pink Floyd but a bit more 'ethnic'

'Cock Rock'

One hair rock song I do like and it makes me quite emotional is 'mommas fallen angel' but only because it was the first song I ever heard on tommy vance's vh1 rock show (tommy rip)

Pedantic question: can you actually reform pulp? Answers from the thousands of bluenose paper manufacturers and recyclers awaited eagerly.

For the record no-body has made a decent record since the stone roses split IMO, and the finest singles ever were Joy division, Atmosphere.

See the brit pop thing is funny because it lumped so many bands together who sounded nothing alike all because they were british and around at the same time.

That happens sometimes.

Stylistically, the Grebo bands from the Midlands area were all very different from one another, but bands like The Wonderstuff, Pop Will Eat Itself, Ned's Atomic Dustbin and Crazyhead all came under the Grebo umbrella.

its like a lot of the 'grunge bands' too

nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, tad, mudhoney all get tagged with being grunge but all sound completley different

Pulp formed in the 80's! They weren't really Brit pop! Listen to any thing other than common people or disco 2000 and you will see that!

Great news. Jarvis's lyrics were honest, wry, witty, daft and yet so darn cool. Great melodies too.

early to mid 90s was when they had they commercial success, the manics got lumped into brit pop too and blatantly were not, same with suede who I mentioned earlier too.

Another example although moving away from britpop and going overseas are the offspring, when they released pretty fly for a white guy a lot of people were like "check out this new band" ignoring the fact that was released on their 5th album, and their first was out in 89 (and they were out playing live from the mid 80s) - green day had 2 commercial breakthroughs, first with dookie in 94 then american idiot in 2004...a lot of people who liked american idiot aagain didnt realise they were a band who went back to the mid to late 80s as a live band and again released their first album in 89, a whole 15 years before american idiot and 5 years after their first breakthrough

They were very much a "time and place" band, as I like to call it.

In their time and place, they were very influential and helped form a popular culture in Britpop.

But, compared to the likes of Oasis and Blur, who were good enough to go beyond that and cement their places in rock'n'roll history, Pulp reforming will be like many other bands reforming from that era. A non-event.

There's nostalgia and then there's quality. Pulp will fall into the former.
