Anyone else go down to Wembley to see TF's debut in 1975 or maybe it was 76. It was against Holland who were absolutely brilliant. They won 2-0 and I hardly remember TF getting a touch. There were loads of bluenoses there, but it was all a bit of a disappointment. It was a priviige to see that excellent Holland side with Cruyff, Rep etc..

I seem to remember Trev couldn't keep his feet and kept falling over. Not the greatest of debuts.

He also should have made the team much earlier. Was Ron Greenwood manager at the time? Whoever it was, they wouldn't play him, even though he was on fire.

Then in 1977 Roy Race was announced temporary England Manager, he played Trev up front with Supermac and we beat Holland 5-1

Yes it was February 1977 and it was a guy called Peters who scored the two goals. That Holland side must easily be the best team I've seen live and probably ever will see.

If only Francis had played for England when he was younger, he may have an impact like Michael Owen. As a teenager he was fearless. We'll never know will we.

Yeah, think it was February. Holland tore England to pieces that night.

However, that was not the first time TF was called up. On one occassion, he was called up and then suffered a long term injury and missed quite a few games., and didn't get the call up again until 1977.
And I think Revie was the manager for TF's debut...

Your Right Bart, It was the 74/75 season, Trev was top scorer after about a dozen games and was called into a squad, but got a bad injury, He didnt come back till just before the semi V Fulham. He was innocuous in both those games, suppose he hadnt really got his fitness back!

No...it was a snapped Achilles Tendon

Culprit was a brutish Sheffield United defender named Eddie Colquhoun....I was at Bramall Lane when it happened

Shocking tackle from behind.....he didn't even get sent off for it :banghead:

Trevor never had quite same the pace after recovering from that injury

Ron Saunders wanted him at Villa as well

When the rumour spread to the local papers that might bid for him there was a massive outcry from BlueNoses

Our board, Keith Combes RIP and co (fair play to them) came out and said "Not a chance in hell""

It was great no doubt about it,The Blues team that won promo in 72 had Pendrey Cooper Big Bad Bob, Trev Page all from the youth team while Gordon Taylor & Hatton were top top signings! Our attack was awesome
while TF was head and shoulders the best ever player in our history! Better goalscorer than Forsell, and more skill than Dunny!
Our crowds were huge average 33k in 73 and the atmosphere hostile and intimidating which at the time i loved! Willie bell wrecked that team and never ever worked in football again after he left us! That is a measure of how bad he was!

And if only Jimmy Greenhoff would have stayed.......I used to love watching Jimmy banging in goals left, right and centre

But don't forget, Des....Kenny Burns, Howard Kendall and Joe Gallagher were all regulars just after the 72/73 party and became BCFC legends

It's a crying shame Ron Saunders did not take over from Freddie Goodwin....things would have been Oh ! so different **thumbup

Under Saunders Trev would've played right back.

:D

Some folks think Alex is too cautious - blimey - you'd think we were Barcelona if compared to a Saunders team. Dour was his manner and double dour his teams.

Bah ....Pure Tosh !!

Saunders signed Mick Harford For Christ's Sake....one of the best BCFC strikers there was in recent decades

My reference was that if Ron had joined us in the mid 70's instead of having to put up with Bell......When there was real money to spend, he'd have made us a top flight team in no time....we never would have slid down to the old Third and with Saunders at least you saw players who played with passion for the shirt

I'm convinced of that

It would also have meant that Vile would never won 2 League Cups, the League Title or the EC **thumbup
